    Actually Atari Basic was arguably worse the Basic 2.0.
    Atari Basic had totally none standard String handling.
    C64 Basic lacked extensions for graphics and sound but other than that it wasn't terrible.

    Actually I would guess that it could be the multiplatform code that takes up so much space.
    I have to hope that they don't support Poke and Peek.
    C64 basic doesn't support any of the cool features like Sprites and sound.

    If it is just a GPL issue with Ghostscript they have to do is offer the "customers" the right a copy of Ghostscript. Not really a big deal. Also is there a GPL violation at all yet? For it to be a violation one of the customers of these machines would need to request the Source.

    Oh I do agree but you are drinking Artifex's koolaid.
    It is hard to tell but it looks like they just want money. They don't care if Diebold publish the source or not.

    Artifex is seeking unspecified monetary damages in excess of $150,000 and also wants the court to impound PES equipment that allegedly violates Artifex copyrights. "
    I just don't think this has anything to do with Freedom and everything to do with MONEY.

    Artifex is ticked because they are not getting paid. It looks as if they are just using Ghostscript for printing. I guess they could put up a website with yet another copy of Ghostscript for people to download.

    Exactly.
    During Hurricane season a lot of places will have the Weather Channel on if their is a storm that could threaten our area.
    Or if their is breaking news.
    I am not too fond of sports but too each their own.

    This device while amusing does seem to be a violation of other peoples rights.

    For large scale solar sure. I totally agree with you.
    For a solar gadget to recharge your laptop that will probably spend most of it's life in a drawer. It is a waste.

    Not at all.
    I do politics, I don't do Slashpolitics.
    I already voted. Slashdot is this giant pit of myopic zealots.
    What I don't find any use in is talking politics.
    I look at the issues weigh the pros and cons of each candidate and issue, then I vote.
    But I have never found much of any political value on Slashdot. I put Slashdot politics in the same bin as SNL and Fox News politics.

    BUT I AM IRRITATED BECAUSE SLASHDOT IS ABUSING IT"S OWN CATEGORY SYSTEM!!!!

    DISCUSSING THE ELECTION BLOODY WELL ISN'T NEWS!!! IT IS POLITICS!!!!!

    I haven't looked hard at Theora or Dirac but from what I have seen Dirac may be a better choice. Not only that but you can put it in an Ogg container and it is FOSS.

    Is there anything wrong with Dirac or does it just lack mindshare?

    Flash is far from perfect. It isn't free as in beer and speech for developers. So if your platform doesn't support it your life is difficult.
    GASH makes things a little better but it still has issues.

    Not anymore than adding support for GIFs or PNGs is bloat. Graphics,video, and audio are all not 100% necessary but really nice to have.

    Dropping support is not the same as not being portable.
    Do they claim support for ARM? I don't think so but the iPhone uses one.
    Power on the desktop? No I don't think so.
    Power on the iPhone, iPod, and maybe a netbook?
    That I can see. But we are all just guessing.
    Unless I am right. Then I am brilliant and insightful.

    AMD is going to roll out 45nm CPUs soon. A duel core 45nm version of their latest CPU would make a good laptop cpu.
    Add in that there 780g gpu blows away what Intel offers.
    Then throw in the ATI line so Apple can have access to the latest and greatest GPUs.
    It might not be a bad buy for Apple.
    But hay I don't write the checks.
    The thing is if Apple did buy AMD and Foxconn they would have complete control from the ground up. I can see Jobs going for that idea.

    OS/X is portable. They are still supporting Power based Macs last time I checked.
    The next IPod touch could be moved to power if they are low enough power.
    The next AppleTV could use a Power CPU.
    A netbook could use Power as well. That might be a big win for Apple since they wouldn't takeaway any sales from Macbooks.

    Now I am just waiting for Apple to buy AMD and Foxconn :)
    I think they have the cash on had for AMD for sure.

    Same thing for Cogent.
    Cogent peered with Sprint as for a trial period. They failed to me there obligations to Sprint and then refused to pay.
    They where given notice that this would happen and they did nothing.
    Funny how Sprint is getting the blame for this.

    Your correct.
    A lot of places I know shut completely down at night but leave the servers up and running. Often it is so they can run end of night jobs or just so they can get up and running quickly in the morning.
    A lot of it is just waste and a lot of it is just habit.
    Now for people that run 24/7? That is totaly up to you.

    Wrong. Sony makes more money from the games than from the console.
    Then you have the problems with quality control. One of the things that killed the Atari 2600 was the lack of quality. Everybody was pumping out crap games and people lost faith in all games. It didn't help that Atari also pumped out crap.
    The cost of a Dev system isn't that high for most consoles these days.
    Now the availability of online game stores may make cheaper dev systems worth while. That way Sony, Microsoft, and or Nintendo can get their cut.
    Is this best system for the consumer? Probably not but it is for the console makers. And they get to make this call.

    I have to say that I find CentOS a very good OS. YUM works just as well as apt-get. Very stable and really does just work.
    I have not tired Ubuntu server in a while.
    If anyone wants to work a server distro one can become an idiot friendly PDC would probably be a big winner.
    Include SugarCRM and O3Spaces and I think you would have a winner.

    Thanks. I found the post.
    RAID 0 and 1 are low CPU use to start with so I would expect good performance with that.
    My latest build comes with 5 SATA ports and one ESATA.
    If I had all the cash I wanted to spend on this build I would get two raptors and make those RAID1 for the OS and then Three 1TB drives and do a RAID5 for media storage.
    Maybe some day.

    Okay I think Clinton is the same way as something I would carfuly scrape off my shoe. I can think of nothing that he did good for this country. The economy was a bubble that he refused to deflate and so on.
    But I think that not impeaching him was probably the correct move. He did lie under oath. He is scum for cheating on his wife. But it really was a witch hunt. How he got elected or re-elected I will never understand but he like JFK show that if you look good and provide Bread and Circus you will be loved.
