Well that depends on how one is going to use it. But too not split hairs the GPL requires you to include the GPL with all GPL software. It doesn't say that it can not be displayed for them. The fact that so many people are getting so upset over this is just no longer funny. Is this really worth getting all up in arms over? Mozilla seems to want to do what is right. And goodness knows they have already done the FOSS community a world of good.
Use is a broad word. I can not use it by taking it and changing a few little things then selling it. That is using software as well. This getting bent of the EULA is such a tempest in a tea pot that it really isn't funny.
You mean like the GPL? If you use/distribute GPL software you must abide by their license. Isn't it a good think to inform people of what they can and can not do with the software?
"Waiting around for a perfect job you're qualified for that pays well and hires based on real things instead of non-issues, and offers career advancement is ficticious for most people." Difficult yes. Impossible no. But the key thing is that yes don't act like a jerk in public. Maybe going out to party every friday night and getting stinking drunk isn't a good plan after all. Just a thought and a big of advice.
Nazi == Member of the Nazi party. 3000 MPG == 3000 MPG using EPA testing standards. There are definitions of those two things. The MPG should be understood as under the standard EPA testing. I should have said 3000 MPG hwy 3500 MPG city I guess if you want specifics.
So you are asking this question? "What is truth? Is your truth the same as mine?" What rating would be given, The Roman Catholic Church? The Mormons? Scientology? What about Global Warming sites? What about sites that say Global Warming is a theory and is unproven? Facts are easy to rate. A site that claims that a Toyota Prius gets 3000 MPG is has their facts wrong. A site that says the McCain is a Nazi would have their facts wrong. But Truth is much harder.
Add in the the high cost of diesel and the fact that the car wouldn't get 65mpg in the US! What people don't get is when they see MPG ratings for European cars they are using imperial gallons not US gallons. That is also why US cars look like they get such bad mileage when you compare them. So this car would only get 52 MPG in the US. It only gets 52MPG in the UK as well if you us US gallons. Some people from the UK wanted to know why US cars got such "bad" mileage. They didn't realize that a gallon wasn't a gallon. Still a nice car. If they could make it here and sell it for $18-20 k it would sell. Too bad they can not make the engines in the US and export them to the UK. With the low dollar they would make more money in European market and we could have the engines here. My guess is that there are some tariff, union, or tax reason for not doing it.
Think if the weight of the cable hanging, the motion of the barge, and again the cost. There just isn't any good reason to put a Google data center out in deep water on a barge. Possible yes. Practical not really. Profitable not at all. Even the idea of using it as a "legal" haven is stupid. The fiber optic cable has to go to shore someplace. They have to have some support base someplace. Those laws would then be applied to the the Google barge. Plus Google doesn't want that kind of legal problems. Heck they play nice with China.
Actually I expect them to take extra profit. The product will have the same value and the expenses are lower. The price will always be what the market can bare so without the cost of the patent they will take extra profit. Only if there is a competitive product will there be any savings to the end user and even then it the savings would probably be the the same patent or no.
How reasonable. What are you doing on Slashdot? The other choice would be to grant none exclusive rights to companies. Maybe on a per product basis? That would then open up problems with auditing and do we want NASA doing that?
My choice would be to offer the patents free to any US company that builds their product in the US. But that would be a mess to monitor. Frankly this seems like a reasonable way to deal with these patents.
I thought that H.264 was more patent encumbered than MP4. AAC? I said MP3 because it is so common. I would rather have full OGG support, Vorbis, FLAC, and Speex myself. Speex would be great for audio books. Xvid/Divx isn't too bad. Much better than Quicktime or Windows Media. Now RealMedia is interesting. They have open sourced some of their stuff but I am not sure what or how good it is.
You made this statment. "It's the same reason why employers can't bar you from drinking after you are employed and are privy to their secrets: being drunk doesn't make you spill your beans." Well I had an employer that did at least in public. And yes being drunk can make you spill your beans. In fact it is a common way to gather intelligence. Now drinking in private was different but I still was questioned on how much I drank and when in my security reviews.
You keep saying should. Well that is irrelevant. People shouldn't drink to excess it isn't healthy and can cause sever consequences. But we do not live a world where everybody does what they should. We live in the real world. Act like an ass in public and you will have to deal with results. I don't find Googleing somebodies name "to be sticking your noise up their ass" as you put it. It is just looking to see what public info there is about a person. The person hiring will have to make a judgment call about what they think is important and what isn't. As to what is fair. Well you can not be hired for a job just because someone doesn't like how you talk, the tie you wear, or any number of bad reasons. I would just suggest that one should try to live their lives only doing what they are proud of. Not an easy task but a good goal. If someone doesn't hire you because of something that you are proud of then you probably didn't want that job anyway.
Actually I had a job where being drunk in public would get you fired. It did involve a security clearance and when of the lectures I had was on getting drunk in public.
You say that public drunkenness shouldn't prevent someone from getting a job. That is just opinion. If you have a company then you can exercise your opinion. But it is totally legal to Google an employee's name. Employers are going to do it and then each one will make a judgment call about what should and shouldn't count. There is no way to stop it and I am not sure that it should be stopped. What is private is private what is public is public. This has nothing to do with privacy since it is public. The problem is that people seem to be living some strange fantasy that what they publicly post is private and what they do in public is private. As far as what is in your personal life. If it is personal, keep it personal and private.
Those got to points on land. The don't go out to deep water then straight up to a barge. Not only that but they are mind numbingly expensive. Why do you think Australia has so little bandwidth? Sure it is possible but the cost of running one undersea cable miles out to see the straight up to a barge for one data center would be very expensive. You have to think about the costs involved vs the savings. There is just no good reason to put a data center out in deep ocean. You can do just about anything if you don't care about the costs involved.
Humm the cost and danger of tapping a submarine fiber optic cable in deep water vs paying property taxes... Sorry but the idea of a floating off shore data center in international waters still doesn't make a lot of sense.
In shallow water not much. But they are talking way off shore. Think about hundreds or thousands of feet of cable dangling from a barge. Then think of a cost of miles of undersea cable to service just one data center. Would you really save enough to make it worth the effort, cost, and risk? What is more likely if that the if some city is in need to a temporary data center the USS Google will show up Tie off to the dock and plug into local fiber. Or lets say some city that is very short of land needs a data center. Just tie off a Google Barge and plug into the their power and fiber optics.
Maybe so they can not violate it and say they didn't know?
Well that depends on how one is going to use it. But too not split hairs the GPL requires you to include the GPL with all GPL software. It doesn't say that it can not be displayed for them.

The man I really hope not.

Just let Cray pass into history.

So yes I did think it out.
How about giving use TurboPython :)
Sorry but the fact that you like wordstar type editors made me think of my old beloved TurboPascal IDE.

What do you think would be better?
We call it MP4 and MP3.
Okay the are not totally patent free but are common enough to work.
For something to truly be Play Anywhere it would have to be.
DRM free, patent free, and documented.
Why do I think that this Play Anywhere will end up being like my Unlimited broadband and Cell phone data plan?

Please they are all politicians and will pretty much say anything to get elected. Both of them.
