I don't think so. Commercial speech does not have enjoy the first amendment protection. Cigarette advertising and packaging are prime examples. Since this only effects the packaging and not the content it probably falls under Commercial speech. As I said there are some good reasons to not like this law but I just don't see it as censorship.
That is if you accept the idea that publishing a game is a form of speech. But it is a form of commercial speech. It has already been proven that commercial speech does not enjoy full first amendment protection. That is why you have all the restrictions on cigarette advertising and packaging. This only affects the packaging and not the content so you would have agree that product packaging has full first amendment rights which I can think of many examples where they do not. So no I don't think that you can reasonably claim that this is a first amendment issue. They law may be redundant, useless, and a waste of time but I don't see it as censorship.
And I said that was a consideration but then how is that California can put requirements on auto makers involving pollution controls? They console makers could make a NY version just as they do with cars. But that being said it isn't censorship.
"A law just passed in New York now requires labels for violent content in video games" This doesn't censor anybody or anything. "as well as having parent-controlled lockout features installed in consoles by 2010" So a VChip for consoles. No more censorship than the TV VChip and will be uses about as much.
I can see complaining about the cost of this law, the effectiveness of it, or even if it is redundant but censorship? Just what liberties are being taken away by labeling? And please no "slippery slope arguments". I want to know how providing the consumer more information is a bad thing? Now the vchip in the console I can see problems with cost but outside of that what is the problem. It will not effect any adult unless they are dumb and turn it on and forget the password.
I can see how it may be unconstitutional but only because it could be seen as the state interfering with interstate commerce. But that has nothing to do with freedom of speech.
Except that I already stated that recycling Li-ion batteries was not a big deal but car engines and gas tanks have recycled pretty much since the beginning. To answer your question about the total well that will really depend. Where did the power come from? Is it an old grandfathered in coal plant? What about the mining damage for the copper? What about the transportation of the coal? Over all I do think that plug in hybrids are pretty clean. But the steel industry which is what cars are made of has a very long history of recycling.
Actually CNG cars are really popular in Utah and they do have stations to fill them there. Also natural gas can be renewable. Methane can be made by biomass of if you have enough cheap electricity from air and water. How good an idea it is for mass conversion I don't know enough to comment on.
I was trying to compare apples to apples. The vast majority of what an IC engine spews is CO2. That does get recycled by nature. The problem is that it isn't getting recycled fast enough. I was talking about the difference between the battery and the actual engine. If you want to totally fair with the comparison the battery is the fuel tank and most fuel tanks are made of steel. Way easy to recycle.
They are going to use LI/ION so they are not a bear to recycle. Most of the charging hopefully will be done at nite and not at peak. A lot power is wasted while base load plants are just idling.
Finally even if they are using coal there should still be a savings. Modern coal plants pollute less than a car per unit of energy. Of course if you are on a nuke or hydro then you are even better off.
That being said I am not a big fan of hybrids but they are not as bad as you might think.
"4) On the topic of programmer speak show him Slashdot or Digg or something like that. Programmers have started there own culture in these places that he might be interested in seeing." I would say that percentage wise there are very few programmers on here. Way too many wanabes that think they know everything.
You are better off on programing mailing lists or language forums like the Java forum. Too bad there isn't a mentors forum anywhere. I would love a forum where nobody ever said RTFM.
Funny but in the US we have plastic recycle bins for paper and plastic and one for aluminum cans. All you have to do is fill them and put them out for the trash collector. Also my local grocery store has a bin to recycle their bags. They make it very easy here.
I would suggest Squeak. It is a great environment to learn programing in. If you want something a little more main stream then I would suggest the unpopular on Slashdot language of Java. To do anything graphical using Python you have to use some odd library that really isn't part of the language. Python is a great scripting language and I have seen some great graphical programs written in it but I question if it is a good choice to get a teen interested. Java isn't the terrible pig that everybody on slashdot makes it out to be. some of big advantages of Java for a beginner are. Great free tools. NetBeans and Eclipse.org are really nice IDEs. Great professionally written tutorials. Just do a Google on jlist tutorial or Swing tutorial and you will find a good comprehensive tutorial online. And Great online documentation.
Add that Java is now well on it's way to being complete GPL and that it is available for many platforms and I think it really is a good choice.
Oh they are all good toys. Lincoln Logs are not as flexible as Legos and knex is just a bit to fiddly for young kids. They are all great toys with what I consider good choices. You are thinking of Erector Sets or I think they where also called Mecco.
What gives better value for your money than Lego? I have yet to see a toy that will get as much play as a tub of Legos Now I do think they have way to many special parts these days but that is just because I am old.
I can think of one reason. People are willing to pay it.
The reasons why people are willing to pay it probably have a lot to do with the quality of the product which IMHO is very high and the name recognition.
In other words they are not cheap junk and people are willing to pay for quality, at least in this case.
It is located roughly at a point where it COULD have liquid water and it could have a thick atmosphere. It may or may not. But may is better than not a chance. Seems like it would be worth pointing a radio telescope at and see if we find there version of I Love Lucie.
No you got it wrong. There is a maximum punishment for a crime. If you show remorse or some evidence that you will not keep on being stupid the judge has the ability to REDUCE your punishment.
So he was judged for his actions. And he didn't do anything after to the crime to show that he wouldn't do it again.
Pretty much exactly what I was going to post. We know he has tragically effected several peoples lives by being exceedingly stupid and yes criminal. His Myspace page screams Hello I am an idiot. So I have to agree we know this guy is a criminal idiot and it looks like he is proud of it.
Um. Wow that is a stretch. I guess you could create a trojan that searches for your pictures, uploads them to a server where a team of Photoshop experts doctor them and then upload them and change the date stamps... Seems a bit of a reach for me. Now pirated movies and or music maybe.
"Remember that IBM is forbidden from selling CPUs for home desktops." Huh? Since when? IBM made the PPC for Macs for years. So where is your documentation on this?
The person posting this must be a Linux/BSD user. Also they must be a hard core FOSS GPL or die kind of person. Intel has Open Sourced their drivers. Well the truth is they sort of have open sourced the drivers. Intel and not the community write the drivers and the code is semi obscured but right now it is the only "modern" FOSS video driver that supports 3d. That will change as the ATI free drivers mature. Me? I run AMD with Nvidia under Linux. I am just not that hard core.
What I like is.
"Can always"
Sort of like jumbo shirmp.
I don't think so. Commercial speech does not have enjoy the first amendment protection. Cigarette advertising and packaging are prime examples. Since this only effects the packaging and not the content it probably falls under Commercial speech.

Actually yes.
Iron and Aluminum have a very long history of being recycled.
Much longer than Lithium batteries.
Li-ION batteries are not terribly hard to recycle but iron and Aluminum are super easy.
They are going to use LI/ION so they are not a bear to recycle.

The volt will come out just in time for Oil to hit $45 a barrel.

No it is actually a pretty major CMS. If you have no interest in Content Management Systems then it is very possible that you wouldn't hear about it.
It is located roughly at a point where it COULD have liquid water and it could have a thick atmosphere.

No trolling. You are right spam is the biggest problem. It is terrible and the noise is just getting too much.
