Sorry but I don't feel that Intel has a huge record of innovation.
Intel is making X86 cpus. They are very fast but they are still X86 CPUS. The still work on data in the same way as the 386 did but much faster. MMX and SSE? they are tacked on DSP instructions. What Intel and the other IC companies have done is just evolve basic digital logic circuits. They still use gates and work in binary. Take a look at things like the survival rate of cancer over the last 20 years and the survival rate for premature births and I think will see some major increases.
Also when Intel makes a chip that doesn't work correctly hundreds of people usually don't die. If your MP3 player or PC locks up you just reboot it. If the drug you are taking locks up your Liver then bad things happen.

Funny but I was thinking that it meant.
Why have a long development cycle followed by a high introductory price when you can have a reasonable price and a constant evolution?
The Wii is plenty powerful enough right now. Most people don't have 1080P HDTVs or even HDTVs. The games on Wii are fun and selling well. The Wii is selling well.
The Wii is 100% compatible with the GC so you can play all your GC games on the Wii.
So if in two or three years we have the WiiHD for $225 will I feel ripped off? Not really since it will still be cheaper then buying a PS3 right now.
Like the PS2 it will take a few years for developers to get a grip on the PS3's programming model.
So in two years when the WiiHD comes out odds are that will have more power then the PS3. Play all the Wii and GC games. And cost about the same as the PS3.
Nintendo will not need to recover massive development costs and can include an HDDVD or BlueRay drive "which will be cheap and we will know who if anyone won the format war", HDTVs will be super common, Moore's law will have kicked in for a generation or two, it will have full backwards compatibility, and will have a very familiar programing model. AKA a bigger and faster Wii. In other words just like the PC.
I think Nintendo thinks that a 7 year live cycle for a game console is dumb.

The US didn't sign Kyoto because the US didn't believe that was workable and that giving India and China a free pass was a good thing.
A large number of countries are not meeting the goals that they agreed too.
    As of 2004
Spain has increased it's emissions by 49%
    New Zealand 21%

These are old numbers but they are the newest I could find doing a fast Google.
The US is an easy target to pick on. I would like to see us reduce your geenhouse emissions but saying that the US doesn't care about pollution is just wrong. The US stopped selling cars that used leaded fuel at least ten years before the EU did. They also pretty much pioneered most pollution control technology.
I would love to see every new power plant in the US be nuclear. Hey France gets most of it's power from nuclear reactors. I would like to see more solar roofs as well. Wind I am not too fond of for a number of reasons. I just don't think it is practical in the long term. I also fear that the long terms effect of massive wind farms may be just as bad as the long term effects of massive hydro power.
But that is just my opinion and I may be wrong about wind power.

    2. A lot of people bought HDTVs last year on black Friday. They are no longer really preium high end devices. You can find a big selection at Walmart so nope they are not just for videophiles anymore.
    3. I bought an HDTV last back Friday. So many people bought them that the cable company and a four week back log in HD boxes. It only supports 1080i but then it is only a 32" lcd for my bedroom. Today my wife and I went to Walmart and picked up a $98 HD-DVD player.
This black Friday you will see masses of people that bought an HDTV last year hit Target, BestBuy, and Walmart. They will see $99 Toshiba HDDVDs on the self and they will fly off the shelf.
The Typical consumer will not care about 1080p or 1080i anymore than they care if the memory on there PC is CAS 3!
At $98 if the HDDVD player I got sucks oh well. If Blue-ray wins... Oh well. For $98 why not take a shot... And that is going to be how it goes Christmas of 2007. Last year it was HDTVs this year it will be HDDVDs.
Under $100 is the magic price point for many people. Yep sub $100 HDDVD players are going to make a huge dent in the market.
In fact I just checked Bestbuy's website. The two low end Toshiba HD-DVD players are... Sold Out!
All the Blue-Ray players are still available.

OS/Xs is actually an interesting idea And I think there is a Linux type system that uses something like that.
But the /Preferences idea does make me stop and thing. How do yo deal with user specific settings? I have not used OS/X much at all so I don't know.
    Do they have sub-directories like /Preferences/USER ?
And then you have the idea of why not store the preferences in a database like SQLLite? The downside would be that you could corrupt all your settings if the database went south but it would allow an easy way to have nested preferences.

The real reason that Linux isn't going to go that way is because of inertia. There is already too many programs that will not work that way. What you will have is an even bigger mess.

That is one of the many reasons why I am more than a little sad that Windows and Linux have pretty much killed new ideas in OS design.
