Well I question if the X86 is the way to go. This one size fits all mentality with CPUs needs to go. For things like web serving why not something like the SunT1 or T2. For NAS the PowerPC, ARM. and MIPS might be more power efficent.
For render farms, database servers, and HPCs the X86-64 and Power5, UltraSparc T2.

The X86-64 does a good job at about everything but it is not the best at anything. The new low power laptop cpus are not terrible but I don't think they can match the ARM, PowerPC, or Mips in the low power area yet.

I thought that HyperTransport was faster than PCI Express and also freely available I would think that with 64 cores that memory speed would be a bottleneck. It would also allow the Tilera to fit into an AMD socket. It is an interesting critter no matter how you look at it.

Music CDs should be treated like installation media. You use it once to make a working copy and the store the master.

The ARM core isn't slow by any stretch I would bet that a good dual or quad core ARM would run all the software the average desktop needs. It would probably work just fine for most business systems. Since the ARM core is so small compared to say an Core2Duo or AthlonX2 I would bet that you could put 16 or more on a single die and then use Hyper transport for memory IO. You would need to add something like SSE and maybe an FPU but the end result could be very interesting for servers.
