"(highways only, no side roads, maintain constant lookout for situations the autopilot is overlooking)" The last bit is a great excuse. It is all your fault no matter what.
So if it is highway only then they should have a white list of roads you can use it on GPS should allow for that. My guess is that they mean limited access roads like interstates and turnpikes vs just highway like US highway 1.
The lack of "effort" to prevent abuse IMHO shows a lack of experience in life critical software.
"Someone once said "if you're not failing regularly, you're not trying hard enough", and I have to agree." Yea but not when end users die. We are not talking about test pilots we are talking about consumers.
"Is that statistically true? I did some google searches and its hard to find good data." Consumer Reports no longer gives the Tesla S a recommended because of problems with reliability.
"No the media has big problems with it, namely understanding and evaluating risk. Many of the known cases where auto pilot has caused problems have been in situations where it was not being used as directed. In terms of accidents per miles driven its a got a good record, with caveat that most people are using it in situations where humans typically do have a lower than average accident rate too."
Yea that is really making excuses. The Ford Bronco II had no problem with roll overs if you drove it like a short wheelbase, high center of gravity truck and not like a car...
I do not think that public access is in payment for a monopoly but for TV in general. Honestly who cares about public access tv when you could do it all with Youtube today. Cable TV is not internet and internet is not cable TV Charter was given a franchise for Cable TV not for internet. They just are just using the same infrastructure for a new profit center.
Yes I know that it is not really off but I do not see the need for an LED to tell me that it is in standby mode. If nothing else At least let me turn off the led. It is a waste of power. Even better a real off switch would be nice.
I fear that Musk may be falling prey to his own PR. Space X is doing some really cool work but it is also not meeting it's predicted launch rate. Tesla has some big problems with quality and the "beta" autopilot. If you do too much, you will do nothing well.
If I read the summary correctly the Schools will get about 106k for the over charging and the FCC will get the rest since they failed to qualify for the subsidy.
The Beatle did not go unchanged for it's production run and some of the changes where pretty significant including engine growing from 1100cc to 1600cc. So I would say it is valid. BTW they are wrong I would put money on Coke a Cola as being the most popular product of all time.
Isn't more interesting that the actual contents of the email leak is not getting much attention on Slashdot? For example the email where they call outreach to hispanic voters Taco bowl engagement. Or the meeting between the DNC and MSNBC or the fact that a Poltico blogger sent a story to the DNC to get feedback before publishing it.
Maybe. It reminds me of the R3Y which the US made in the 1950s. The airframe worked well but the engines let it down so less than 20 where built. And no it was not an amphibian but like the PBY if the engines had worked an amphibian version might have been made. Also take a look at the birdcage of struts on the tip floats. Those look like they would produce a ton of drag and look rather flimsy. They look a lot like the mounting for the PBM vs the much cleaner mountings on the P5M. The US doesn't build amphibians for SAR or ASW any longer because frankly they are a pain. Let's take a multi million dollar aircraft and dunk it in salt water. We use land based aircraft for search part of SAR and helicopters for the rescue part. A flying boat can only land to pick up people in calm seas anyway. Until they actually enter service you never know. The question is will it be worth it for China? Do they have a lot of forest fires? Do they have areas with many lakes where building airfields is too expensive like Russia and Canada does in the tundra? Do they need this big and expensive of a water bomber and SAR aircraft?
Actually the Tesla line of cards are for data mining and neural network research. Nvidia has 3 PC lines of cards Geforce Gaming Quadro CAD/CAM and professional graphics. Tesla for GPU compute. AI, data mining and other GPU compute functions. The Titan is part of the GForce line and is a bit of an odd duck. It is a gaming card but like every other gaming card it can be used for AI, data mining, CAD, and even professional graphics but it is a gaming card. A very high end expensive gaming card.
Why is it really dumb? Is it any dumber than spending $50 going to a bar with friends? He is no different than a guy that collects cars, art, comic books, airplanes, or old computers. Most of the cost seems to be the collection.
And this is the original post. "I don't have a recreated $1.5m Star Trek bridge-themed home theater, so I'd say even in a one bedroom efficiency eating ramen I'm still better off in life." Nope he is a snob.
"Verizon has been buying up internet and advertising technology companies, including AOL, and presenting itself as the best bet to take on Google and Facebook Inc. in mobile advertising." So they will have AOL and Yahoo... Really?
"Why? We already have giant tankers full with liquified natural gas, and oil ofc." and people freak out about them. The new always causes people to freak out. The big problem is that most of the mid atlantic ridge is REALLY DEEP.
So do these shoes break the law? If not what difference does it make. If they do then it is for law enforcement to deal with. There is a difference between a knock off and a counterfeit.
Do you pay for HBO? Do you go to the movies? By wine or a drink at a bar? Buy coffee at a coffee shop? Have an gaming console? Go out to dinner or clubbing?
I am sure there are better places (more philanthropic) to spend your money.
"had to work to earn the money he took?" What? Wow... If he is running his companies really well he is providing them with jobs and keeping them from getting laid off. Really? At at the same time you and your boss told someone with two laptops that he should not give one to a person that can not afford one for college? "However, I will ask how many starving people he could have fed or provided clothes to school children" Well do you have cable TV? How much do you pay? http://www.uniteforsight.org/h... It takes $10 to feed a child for a week. How many kids are you letting go hungry every time you go to a movie, Starbucks, Pay for HBO, go out to eat, or have drinks with a friend? Until you forgo all your luxuries and donate every cent to charity why do expect someone else to do that same. Also for all you know he does feed lots of children. The answer is simple. People want to have some fun. It makes life worth living.
TP-Link routers have been faves for the Hacking community for a while now.

Really do I need a red LED on my TV even when it is off?
My wife uses both but yes Photoshop is easier to use and has a large ecosystem of add ons. Gimp is a fine replacement for photoshop elements.

"Those are consumables. "
So is the iPhone. How many of the original iPhones are still in use?
Not a chance. Coke a Cola would beat it hands down.
The US already has a few 747 waterbombers http://fireaviation.com/tag/74... and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
And DC-10 water tankers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
And C-130 water tankers and P-3 water tankers and S-2 water tankers....

Beneficial is in the eye of the user. An A-10 is really benefical if you are in the US military and are pinned down by enemy fire.
Maybe.

Yea... no.
Besides you act as if the US is the only nation. It will not matter if the US allows it if other nations don't since it is between nations.
