  1. There is hope, but it might not get handed to you. on IT Job Without a Degree? · · Score: 0

i am a perfect example of how you CAN succeed in this field without a degree.

i was able to get some experience doing security and sysadmin work on the side for very very little money. this gave me SOME experience that i used on my resume to get a co-op position in a manufacturing company in the helpdesk.

i took this position and eventually pushed myself into a role where i was doing some system administration work. i volunteered for every project that was offered and did well in them. i worked late without taking overtime. i made suggestions when no one else would speak up.

now i'm the sysadmin for the company doing the job of three former employees at lower pay then any of them.

the point is that you CAN get a job without a degree but you have to get your foot in the door first! even if that means chugging out in the helpdesk for a few years in order to get seen by the higher ups. make sacrifices with pay and overtime initially and you will be rewarded in the future.

This is like a builder who builds a house without any doors or windows in a bad neighborhood while telling the buyers "YOU DON'T HAVE ANY DOORS OR WINDOWS ON YOUR HOUSE SO DON'T PUT ANYTHING VALUABLE IN HERE" and local burglars taking 5 or 6 years to realize it. You deserve to have all your stuff stolen because you didn't bother to look at your own place or take the builders warnings to heart.

This whole situation couldn't be more irrelevent, just like this comment.

You sit there and wonder... Why the hell are they asking for $24,000 USD? Isn't it an odd amount to ask for? Get off your america-is-the-center-of-the-world attitude and look at some interesting conversions. There are a number of countries that are involved with these happenings, russia, south africa, findland, india, uzbekistan(spelling? don't care), and some others.

Lets take a brief look at some currency conversions.

24,000.00 USD United States Dollars = 25,082,065.34 UZS Uzbekistan Sums
24,000.00 USD United States Dollars = 1,091,064.00 INR India Rupees

25 million UZS's, or 1 million Rupees, sounds much more "hostage like" then $24,000.

Carry on with country specific flaming. Here i'll give you a topic, not only are good IT jobs being outsourced but so are black hats! You better protect your black-hat interests before it's too late.

A processor that is only good for one proprietary algorithm with encoding is just plain rediculous.
