From the newspeak page:
There are two such changes ongoing at the moment. One is the continuing evolution of the internet. There is growing demand for applications that work well on and off line, combining the ease of maintenance of web applications with the high quality user experience of local clients
And frankly, I'm down with more smalltalk/squeak languages, simply from a personal interest standpoint. I've been playing with Pharo and I'm actually happy to see this.
Also consider: Google Glass isn't banned. You just can't use it once the lights dim, just like their cellphone policy. I'm willing to bet some patrons think they're being 'slick' by using glass...
Sorta, not really. After changing banks/credit cards because I felt the bank I was banking with was a bit too.. unethical? for my liking, a year later, my new bank was bought out by the old bank. Or a credit card I have with one bank? Gets sold to another bank that I want to avoid with a 10 foot pole.
Now, try getting a new credit card (again) and not have it hit your credit score while you try to transfer balances, etc. It's a gigantic PITA.
Working 2-3 full time jobs, going to school, etc. I really have almost no recollection of anything in my 20s. I have the paystubs, etc to tell me what I was doing, but actual memories? Nope. Three to four hours of sleep a night. It sucks.
I say a lot of shit in the privacy of my own house, but I still manage to go without calling someone a nigger or a kike or a spic. If anything, it shows that the front we put on in public isn't necessarily "being ourselves" and frankly, many people are just shitty people.
REALLY tempted to get one of the wood backed ones, but seriously.. Fuck AT&T.
Well, that and my old-man eyes really like the Note series screens (with the caveat that the Note 2 is the largest I want to go. It's already pushing the "will it fit in my pocket" test limit).
/* Face it: hatred for Wal-Mart is a tribal identification thing, not a rational economic argument. */
Actually, it can be a rational economic argument. When my tax dollars are used to subsidize their employee's basic needs, it becomes in my rational self-interest to figure out why, even with Wal-Mart's economies of scale and state-of-the-art distribution system, their own employees must get food stamps and housing assistance. On *my* dime. And yours. And your neighbors.
The latter part of your story isn't really all that hard or time consuming. This is *why* you hire an agent and a lawyer, so they can do all the hard work. They just distill it down to a level that you can understand in about 5 minutes and then you can go about your day. That's also called a quality problem in that most writers don't make enough to get to that level.
I still use dead-trees for technical documentation, but for my fiction reading, it's completely on my Kindle. Long gone are the days when I wanted to schlepp a thousand pounds+ of books around every time I moved into a new apartment. Printing everything out in a 3 ring binder just seems so.. even more wasteful than just buying a dead-tree book, but hey, if it floats your boat...
There has been too much violence. Too much pain. But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away. Give me your nukes, the isotopes, the radioactive wastes, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror.
I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.
So I went to change the password

And ebay wants me to type in my full credit card/bank account information to verify my identity. No, this doesn't look like a phishing attempt at all. Even if it's legit, it's bad form.
If someone can't ask me what I think of Product/Service without me worrying about some asshole suing me to death over my experiences/opinions, then fuck it, let's stop pretending we live in a free country. Yes, speech should have consequences, but there's a huge difference between libel/slander and expressing a mother fucking opinion.
Well, I'm a film guy, not a photog, so my options are: Avid (industry standard), or switch to a mac and use FCP, not to mention work with prosumer software such as Vegas. Editing is editing and there's not a whole lot of differences between the suites that don't have workarounds, etc. I particularly enjoy the Premiere->After Effects workflow, and while Audition is no ProTools, it's good enough for my purposes. The most exciting thing for me lately is reading that Speedgrade CC 7.1 has a better roundtrip workflow, but I haven't tested that out yet.
Anyway, "creative cloud" is to "cloud" as "javascript" is to "java". Unless you're using Adobe's cloud storage program. But why the fuck would you do that? I generated over 250gb in footage (non-raw) for a 6 minute short recently.. How long would that take to upload to cloud storage and how long would it take to pull it back down? No thanks, I've got local storage and I like it that way.. maybe if we ever get ubiquitous fiber connections and $10/month/terabyte cloud storage options I might consider using it for archival, but yeah, no thanks... I did not even know Adobe's shit was down until I read about it here. That's how much it affected me.
:: shrug:: What if he served his time and was "rehabilitated" and no longer wishes to be reminded of his past life so he can move forward as a productive member of society?
Now what if the judge gets the documents and indeed agrees that they should remain secret?

Is the font comic sans?

One of the top 5 things I miss about Portland.

You should absolutely put in a Trigger Warning when you talk about Excel like that. ;)
Dunno if that's a good or bad thing, though.
I've had to take over maintenance of a few "excel" based applications. Never. Again.

I have seen these!
Yeah, I read Playboy for the articles, too.

Yeah, the student cloud rates are completely worth it for me, but if they finally cancel that for me, well, not sure what I'll do as of yet.
