No they couldn't have.
If/. were calling some other reconstituted meat product SPAM then yes, a cease and desist letter could have been sent. However trademarks are context specific. Hormel have a trademark on meat called SPAM. This means I can call other things spam if I want to, so long as it's not meat. Apple computers can't sue Apples the greengrocer in the high street, as the context is different.
A1: Yes
A2: No, it was started because he didn't want a proprietry toolkit being the foundation of an open source desktop. Having a proprietry extension to an open source email client is not a foundation, you don't need to use it if you don't want to, and it doesn't provide anything that the majority of people who care about open/closed source care about.
"The question you should be asking yourself is whether you are on the Hill for your constituents--the consumers, whose rights are being infringed, or the corporations on this issue."
Corporations are people too, and as so get the same rights as real people. As Chomsky put it they are "immortal persons, andpersons of extraordinary wealth and power". Sad but true. So to the senator, it doesn't really matter who's side he's on. Writing to him might do something, but it's going to take a lot more than a handful of geeks writing to him.
I think this is caused by the addressbook.db file in the root contacts folder being in the wrong format. runing killev and removing it, then restarting evolution should fix that, but you'll lose any contacts in that folder, so you might not want to do that:)
that however, was not my point.
My point was that he was complaining about lack of originalty, when the major thing he has done, was one of the most uninventive things ever. And from what I remember of the other projects (which I hadn't included, because I thought they had never got off the ground: Project 12 was it), they weren't that original either. So Bowie, the onus is now on you to prove that your other projects are original, and enough to be counted as contributions to the world.
A couple days ago I wrote a post about this, which 10 people said was interesting, and another 10 people said was total flamebait -- About how this is Gnome's mentallity. They dont want to take the lead. They want to permanently fix themselves into second place because (big surprise) being able to imitate the leader is a cozy existance. It's been like that for years -- They steadfastly refuse to do or accept anything even remotely unique and try it out.
And I responded to that post saying that I found it funny that the guy who's sole contribution to the world of open source was a bunch of square tiles that looked the same (and it wasn't like it was an original idea in the first place).
I find it amusing that the person who's only major contribution to the open source world was creating square graphics over and over again, is lambasting the desktop environments for being unoriginal
They have internet access?
And their own personal websites?
Methinks Michael my just be trying to make up stupid reasonings. Yes, there are many things to think about in this idea that other people brought up (who and how would this be regulated by being one), but Michael's complaint is just stupid.
I wasn't aware that the mail could be exported as CSV, I know the addressbooks can. Eventually there will be a CSV importer for Evolution, there just wasn't enough time before the feature freeze.
I understand that Michael Zucchi is working on a system where you can point Evolution at your pine mailbox and have it read that, so it means that you can use Evolution locally and then pine remotely. You'd be best to ask the evolution-list @ ximian.com to find out more
The Outlook mail files are stored in a proprietry database format and the only way to get at the data is through mapi.dll. So, the way to import the files into Evolution is to use Mozilla on Windows to convert the Outlook mail stuff into mbox format files and then import those files into Evolution. Yeah, it's a hassle, but it's the only way currently (wonder how Wine's mapi implementation is coming on).
Ximian is not GNOME.
Just because Ximian is working on it doesn't make it GNOME. And I believe there are 4 people working on it at Ximian. GNOME is greater than Ximian, and if 4 people can sidetrack a project that incorporates many hundreds of people, then thats pretty impressive.
The GNOME project is continuing with or without those 4 people, so it is not "being sidetracked"
No, you can replace your proprietary software with free software and a small bit of a proprietary.
IE does this too IIRC.
It also trys to connect to an MSN.com site whenever you type a server name that doesn't exist.

Hate to be an annoying pedant, but incorrect use of the word hope.
:)
Hope should be used when you want something, but fully expect to get it. From your posting I didn't get that feeling.
All we need is a little more hope,
A little more joy,
All we need is a little more light,
A little less weight,
A little more freedom.
If we were an army,
And if we believed THATWEWEREANARMY...

Rumour I read (in Jockey Slut I think), was that they were releasing all the tracks from the album.
Or Shooting Fish

If the yacht was only 1000$ extra, then yeah, I'd take it.
Well then....don't buy one. Whats the problem?
He was fired.
Now the question becomes "Why was he fired?"
After I posted it I realised that was probably the point of the scan.
I find it amusing that the other side of the page is a 1/2 page photo and article about how a 15year olds breasts are getting larger.
On one hand: She's 15, underage for most countries, on the other, well duh, it's natural. They grow.
Doing an RSS - Share on the top output says that Mozilla is only using about 18 meg.
