Why is it people like you seem to think so narrowly? Is it because you're surrounded only by fellow geeks who think the same way you do, and therefore you can't possibly imagine people purchasing products that don't allow the freedom you want?

    This isn't a troll, just a criticism.

There are SO many ignorant people out there (And yes, thats ignorant, not stupid, there's a difference), that don't know any better and buy whatever the moronic sales guy says at Circuit Shitty, CompLoser or WalFart.

Hell, I'm a geek too and prefer things that can give me more flexibility, but that's not the case with most people. Proof in this comes from a friend who works at Tower Records. People bitch about the price of CDs, she TELLS them there's a record store down the street that sells the SAME CDs cheaper, and they STILL buy at Tower. Go FIGURE. (ok, in this case, it is stupidity, but most people just don't know better.)

That was never a problem on Napster for me. I always just made sure my search results returned results that I was more than happy with. Nothing below 128k, and no modem users or really high ping times.

Man, I miss Napster. These other p2p programs are interesting, but they sure as hell don't have anywhere near the volume Napster had.... well, 'cept for Audiogalaxy, but I havent used it in months and someone told me they implemented filters like Napster did before they shut down...

Yeah. Lets see the RIAA try that. I'm glad to hear CD prices are falling back down to a sane level again.. there was no excuse for the highway robbery anyway. Anyway.. I think if they started putting something like that on the discs that says "May not work in all systems", people might get a bit upset.. course, I could be wrong, considering the number of people that still spent $20 on a fuckin piece of plastic...

Having worked in that corporate QA environment on and off for the last 6 years, and watching what I thought was real quality QA testing deteriorate into mindless clicking and "following directions" mainly due to a change in corporate environment, I must agree with you.

There's a huge difference, though, between games and operating systems. Letting the end users "beta test" an OS is by far, the most insane excuse for laziness I've ever heard, and its actually one of my biggest complaints against microsoft.

You can pay people to test an OS, but I can guarantee you that's even LESS exciting than testing a game. An idea comes to mind, though.. get a bunch of young *hackers* together and *PAY* them well, to build programs that test the vulnerabilities of the OS.. or heck, get some seasoned hackers that are trustworthy for such a thing and pay them even better... I dunno.. just an idea...

Nah. Adcritic was fun. It allowed you to peruse and enjoy the handful of good commercials without having to sit through the painful ones (like the rotating world land rover commercial, UGH). Nothing wrong with an entertaining website at all.. and thats exactly what adcritic was. I'm sad to see it go, even if I really havent paid attention to it in the last year or so...

Its mostly true. The only way you don't ever pay for incoming calls is if you get a call from a cell phone on the same company service you're on. The other way is that they offer free minutes during off peak hours, after 7 pm and on the weekends. This magic number is slowly going up, as companies vie for customers. Course, once you break that magic number, they bend you over, hard.

What irks me, more than anything, is that I can't use my fucking Verizon phone on the east coast (I'm in California). I was in NYC in August and it was *completely* useless. I dont want to know how much more they'd charge me for nationwide service, I dont need it but twice a year.. ehh, this is off topic now anyway.

In junior high, I was constantly bothered by bullying students for being a nerd, and one who could be outspoken. In high school, it was less the other students, and more the teachers. As I matured, I gained a stronger sense of self. I was constantly talking back to teachers I disagreed with, and found myself in some dean or principle's office on more than one occassion for saying something wrong *grin*. Would I have been labelled as a possible problematic child? I hope not. And it would've all fallen through, anyway. I never had access to weapons as a teenager. Kellin
