I guess what surprises me, is how many people know Dobson.. or know of him.. I'd met him a few times over the years, and attended a couple of his classes at the Vedanta center in Hollywood. The man was always so nice, and some of his ideas about the cosmos are very much non-western in thought, and always fascinated me.
Wow. Yet another example of AT&T rolling out a half-assed hastily thrown together technology upgrade. Go Google!
No, but seriously.. when AT&T first started rolling out U-verse to some test neighborhoods, the one I lived in at the time was given a free month to check it out. We had Dish Network at the time. To say the feature set for U-verse was laughable is an understatement. Oh sure, you could get a box for every tv, but only one had a DVR on it.. the rest were stuck with "live tv only". Who does that? The system also felt a little sluggish compared to Dish Network, and I was used to actually useful "information" in the info section of each tv program.
From reading a few of the posts, it already proves what Im about to say.
Does anyone find it funny that the Republicans want to privatize _everything_, and the Democrats want to government-ize everything.. and yet, here's a Democrat wanting to privatize a govt sector, and the Republicans are screaming the end of the world?
It also continues to strengthen my belief that the Democrats and Republicans are brothers who fight over everything because they're too immature to talk about things rationally, and are taking us all down with them.
Need more Libertarians, damnit. Stop thinking you're throwing your vote away if you dont vote for a Republicrat.
That's all we need. More governmental bureaucracy. Another agency, more waste of money.
As much as NASA shouldn't really be involved in monitoring global warming, someone needs to just to put this entirely stupid argument to rest. The self-centered arrogant right doesn't believe it exists, the bleeding heart left is screaming the end of the world.. its clearly somewhere between, but nobody really knows for sure unless we actually pay attention.
As everyone has already pointed out, making it HARDER for customers to get YOUR product is only going to DRIVE THEM to find it another way. IE BIT TORRENT or any other piracy trend.
This is quite clear, in the recent decision by the BBC to broadcast the recent Dr Who two-parter in the US the DAY AFTER it broadcast in the UK. Gee. What were my choices, bit torrent, or wait a WHOLE DAY to DVR it? I chose to DVR, cause it was EASIER and better to watch on my TV.
At least they stopped trying to get money out of people for their craptastic browser. I think I tried like v 7 or 8, and couldnt believe how unpleasant it was to surf the net..
Wow dude. You make a lot of sense. I guess you're screwed and pissed cause you have a Radeon card in your machine... a lot of us went the nVidia direction, mainly cause at the time nVidia was a better choice, and some of us just fucking HATE ATI.
Its obvious nVidia cares more about Linux than ATI does, so its your own fault for picking them in the first place.
Also, 20 month subscription? Why go that far ahead, thats almost two years.. we all know the video card industry changes every six months. Why dont you put that "$100" where your mouth is and tell ATI to make better linux drivers, eh? That's the real answer.
(And yeah, I'm sure I just got trolled, but whatever.)
Depends on what you're doing on the workstations. Wintel boxes can be quite sufficient for doing certain types of work. Win2k is quite the stable little puppy. I've got a Win2k box downstairs that I was using as a shoutcast source for a show I was doing and Ive not had to reboot it once in the last 8 months... course, I also actually havent USED it in the last 6, but the fact that I havent had to reboot it every 47 days makes it a lot more stable than Win9x.
But I digress, another reason why Wintel machines are sufficient for use on workstations is that companies and employees seem to be able to handle some downtime regarding that.. they're a little less forgiving when a server goes down and someone wants to check code in/out on it..
How about paying for items with *CASH*? I'm getting a little pissed off at this whole "privacy" thing. Yes, there are things I feel the government shouldn't be allowed to do, and companies shouldn't be allowed to do, but come ON. (And I bet this is a troll, and I bit, but whatever) Get over it already. You that FUCKING WORRIED about your privacy, there are ways AROUND these things. If you pay for cash there's NO WAY they can track what you buy.
That was the funniest thing about the entire episode. I'd have to say that last night's episode was the worst I'd seen of this season. It had its funny moments, but overall left me rather "ho hum". The previous two episodes were *far* funnier.
If you think the people who are on mp3.com dont want to make money with their music then you are one seriously deluded individual. *EVERY* musician out there that creates music WANTS to make money off what they create. Some just want to be able to make enough to survive and live a comfortable life -- others want to make millions -- it just depends. Yes, writing music *IS* fun (or can be), but to think that people make music just for the "joy" of it is ridiculous.
Maybe you're just too dense an individual? I remember when I first got Baldurs Gate. Alright, I didn't care for it at first, but that was due to a shitty old graphics card, but I did go back to it, figure out its problems, and once I got used to the interface, the game itself was rather engulfing. The humor alone outpaces anything else Ive seen of the same type of game (of which I hadnt played in years, anyway).
What I'm getting at, is that the interface for Baldur's Gate isnt that difficult to figure out at all. But from your comments about Diablo II, it appears you only care about clickfests, as Diablo II is not a terribly fun, nor does it have the depth that the Baldurs Gate games have...
I'm off to Cornwall to open a arts and crafts gallery with my wife (also a former software developer). Fuck programming for a living!
Hahaha. My sentiments exactly, but for the computer industry as a whole. After leaving a software job a few years ago, and getting suckered into a couple other small startups, only to leave one out of serious irritation due to the company being run by what I perceived as idiots (and I have examples), and a second company FIRING me because of supposed "slacking on the job" (eh, they were half right -- I realized a few months into that job I was done with the tech industry)... I've decided its time to have some fun with my creativity and work on music.
I feel sorry for these people who have to suffer the way they do, I'm just glad I was never so inflexible with my options of employment.
btw.. anyone interested in a high tech air purifier (better than sharper image or alpine..)?
I totally agree. Tomshardware is usually fairly decent with technical specs, but this article really really sucked. There wasnt *anything* worth reading in it at all, and not because it was about the Xbox, or that they gave it such high praise.. they really didnt do a good job working through the details like they said they were going to do from the outset. Ok, maybe the wrong kind of details... a quarter of the article spent on ten good games for the system (half of which are highly debatable depending on your slant) and another quarter spent on peripherals which include third party hardware? Give me a break...
Dude, get a life already. Even I dont nitpick gramatical and spelling errors that badly. And no, I could care less if you nitpick this. Also, if you think Slashdot "editors" are bad with grammar, stay away from IRC, your brain will explode.
The lawyers (or someone with half a brain) probably realized in the end that it was a mistake to let loose all the dogs of war.
The removal of the backups sounds more like a case of "copyright protection" than anything, and not really related to DMCA, itself. As my understanding of copyright/trademark laws go, if you don't protect your (c) or tm, you basically give up all rights to it, so they had no choice but to at least go after the backups. I'm sure at some point the clones will come out, though...

Its nice to see slashdot mention him.

Flame bait? Mod this up! Its sooo true! LOL.
What would you give an average dressed dude driving a Jetta Turbo?

Its still Opera, and it probably still sucks.

I like how the author rates Vista a bad OS and Server 2008 a good OS.
Neither are any good. 2008 is nothing but headache inducing around this place. It blue screens more than any other OS Ive seen.
Who gives a flying leap? We're inundated with all sorts of things as we wander around this planet, and I for one think its a bunch of bollocks.
And really --

Actually, its no longer TSR. Its Wizards of the Coast ;)
Ugh. A tomb of horrors style NWN realm would be *sickening*. But I bet it would be fun ;)
Hope thats sarcasm. You dont "consent" to strip searches when going through security lines. They just do it if they suspect.
Yeah... and all of us geeks agree on everything, and dont have any disagreements whatsoever..
(And I do know several rather attractive geek girls)
No worse than getting a BSOD (or if they use the new XBOX OS GSOD) every other day and having to reboot the system...
