Unexplained affluence, - Do many student jobs pay anything other than cash in hand?
I'll try to address this because the information that I have is not the information you have. The immediate example that comes to mind are foreign students originating from Vietnam. Many of them are hard working types. They're the standard usual case. There are also a fairly high number that belongs to family with deep ties to the Communist party in Vietnam. They are fairly wealthy. Communists? Wealthy? Apparently you don't understand how governmental corruption works. I'll let that slide.
These kids are dropping $5-6k/month in living and entertainment expenses on a monthly basis in the US.
Are the kids spying? I have no idea. However, there are plenty of messages on Vietnamese message board forums of parents in Vietnam asking if $5-6k/month is sufficient for living and entertainment expenses. The Vietnamese parents on this side of the Pacific (not exactly politically friendly with the parents on the opposite side of the Pacific) tell them to jack that amount of up to $20k/month.
It seems like these recommendations are targeting a very specific population.
Trick question for you. How much is a license of OS X?
You want to know why it's a trick question? Because you can't buy a license of OS X. You can buy upgrades but you cannot buy a license of OS X to install on your Dell box. Go ahead and look around on the web for a place that you can get a license of OS X to install on non-Apple hardware. I'll wait here for you.
Will Apple sell you a Macintosh *without* Mac OS and/or with Linux? No? Enough said.
I'm not sure if you're aware of this. Apple sells hardware primarily. That's how they make their money. The OS is considered free with the purchase of the hardware.
You know how there are US laws that mandates what you put in gasoline so that cars' emissions are at a certain level? None of that exists in the 20 cents per liter petrol they sell in Asia. So sure, you can get cheap gas if you want. Do you like breathing too?
On Windows: Control + [ or Control + ] depending on which direction you want to go. On Mac: Apple + [ or Apple + ] depending on which direction you want to go.
This is the same company that made a deal with Apple to have Safari's web search box locked into Google so you can't change the default or even add secondary search providers (as if that doesn't harm competing search engines on the Mac platform)
The interface doesn't exist for this but it exists at the API layer. Search for Inquisitor. It's a plugin that you can use with Safari to send the Search Box in Safari to go to any location you want and even change the default.
You didn't get the point of my question. A two button interface is not "portable" across different UI schemes. Two+ button interfaces are great when you have a mouse. But if you plan on building an OS with applications (Safari, hello?) that works in a mouse driven UI and a touch driven UI (iPhone) you can't build around 2 buttons.
And if you build 2 button hardware, then developers will build around 2 button interfaces.
Let's think about this for a second. A missile defense system... defends against missiles. So you're going to fight that by throwing missiles at it?
It seems what Mr. Putin needs is more artillery, not missiles. That's what I'd do if I was going to wage war against someone using a missile defense system.
Yes, I do but, unlike the iPhone, my fingers aren't covering up the screen because my keyboard is seperate.
Yes. And no.
While your fingers are covering up the screen because the keyboard isn't separate, the front portion of the phone that your fingers occupy on your phone with the separate keyboard is about the same percentile of the front the keyboard that isn't separate occupies on the iPhone. Unless you're using some special phone with a detachable keyboard...
I don't think lack of a platform that people can develop for freely ever made a difference. The Motorola RAZR, a completely terrible phone, did not sell amazingly well because consumers looked at it and said, "Wow, this phone is amazing. It presents a platform that people can develop for freely."
I disagree about the fragility of the touch screen. If children's devices (Nintendo DS) can have a touch screen, I don't see why adult devices should be concerned about the fragility of such a thing.
As for the tactile feedback, I think you're underestimating the UI mechanisms used to use the device. The most pressing activity on a phone is dialing. If you can solve the ease of dialing issue, you can make everything much easier. If you look at the demo of the Google map, you'll see what I'm talking about. It makes dialing easy. No current phone does this right now. None.
About the only way this could get easier is if they start scanning your voice mail for phone numbers to associate with the visual voice mail.... hold on. I need to go write a business plan.
You're on crack if you are under the mistaken impression that AT&T is selling you an iPhone without an "unlimited" data plan.

You haven't been to Berkeley have you? Woodburning already banned there. Get with the times you environmental heathen.

You're not supposed to need tools when you take the afternoon off.

I'm sorry. My memory is fuzzy but who exactly picked on Cho?
OS X's indexer is based off of BeOS's indexer which was about a decade ahead of Vista/Longhorn.

So corporations aren't civilians? Are they military?

You're better off with 1 button anyway.
How do you right click on a touch screen interface?
This is making me feel old ...
Slashdot - It's not just for advertising your site. It's for free proof readers for your largely incorrect content.
Given enough time and effort, any endeavor is possible. What isn't possible now will be possible later.

It sold really well because it was marketed well.

More Blu-ray discs are sold than HD-DVD discs are sold.
Not selling more than your competitor has never helped anyone.
It's called a Mac.
