Head of IT doesn't really need to know that much tech

The head of IT certainly needs to know enough tech to know what his people can do and can't do, when they're bullshitting him and when they're telling the truth, what resources he realistically needs, when he needs to bring in an outside contractor and when he doesn't (and how to tell when a contractor is full of shit), and how to set a realistic timetable for a project. If he doesn't know enough of the tech for at least that, all the management skills in the world won't save him.

Everything I read about Monsanto points to them being a strong contender for the Famine version of the end of civilization.

See, it's just this kind of hyperbole that drove me out of the environmental movement for good. It got to be worse than a fucking religion. Every company was evil incarnate, every issue was the *end of the world*, every compromise or attempt at reason was deemed insufficient. Between the wild-eyed Chicken Littles and the misanthropes who seemed to secretly want all humans to commit suicide to save beautiful mother earth, I realized that this was one aspect of the left-wing that I didn't want to be a part of anymore.

It's like the atomic bomb. Creating it was beneficial in the short term for the U.S. But, in the end, its main result was a nuclear arms race that came all-too-damn-close to causing a nuclear apocalypse (and may yet).

You must be making payments (Hint: use income-based repayment) and in good standing in order to count. If you have private student loans, too bad.

I love the fact that people actually believe that law won't be changed before 2017 (when the first round of forgiveness comes due) to prevent just this sort of thing. Such naivete is kind of cute, like watching Hallmark Channel movies and believing that's what real relationships are like.
