I firmly believe that all electronic voting machines should have full source code released and receipts that should be printed and signed by the voter and placed in a box next to the machine in case of recounts or verification questions.
Even if a drone crashes, it is okay because they are much cheaper and no lives are lost. Also who the hell wants to ban drones for foreign warfare. People only want to ban drones for domestic warfare and surveillance use.
First of all, I think we all know that future warfare will be conducted with drones. You seem to be arguing to put money into a project that is completely USELESS. This is all about pork for Lockeed Martin.
I think if you compare the amount George Soros donates to the Koch Bros, you will see that the Koch Bros easily outspend by a 100:1. In fact the Bratt guy is an endowed chair at the university by the kato institute.
Please don't try and tell us that somehow the republicans are such saints in this. At least the democrats have tried to pass net-neutrality rules which would put an end to the content based discrimination nonsense.
I though most schools don't even care about the essay. Also the elite schools nowadays prefer the ACT and SAT II subject tests to demonstrate real knowledge. The SAT is really a dumb test, especially with all the coaching resources available now.
Then why do professional athletes, physicians, pharmacists, lawyers, etc have unions or occupation specific associations. It seems that IT workers think they are too smart to join a union or they are so super concerned that 1 person might freeload off their contract, so they are ready to spite their face to save their nose.
I would bet that 90% of legacy admissions are for wealthy people like 4th generation Yale students who go yachting every weekend. 85% of african american students are 1st generation college students, so your point is invalid. And furthermore I don't understand how you can be against affirmative action but for legacy admissions.
For the record, I am against both. But if you are against one and not the other than you are a hypocrite.
I once again ask where are all these openings for skilled professions. We have spent the past 20 years demeaning these professions. It seems that everyone on slashdot thinks that all welding/manual labor jobs are the same. This is a bit how management views all tech workers as the same. It is just code right???
The irony here is very strong. The same people bitching about how there is no shortage in IT are now claiming there is a shortage of manual labor jobs without knowing anything about them.
I agree with this and think the court did not go far enough. We should get rid of legacy admissions and just make it so that when applying all the school can see are the grades, test scores, and extra cirrcular activities. No information such as name, gender, race, socioeconomic status, etc should be provided.
Ok. I can say that professional baseball players make $20 million dollars. I think you are choosing the most elite of a profession and trying to use that as an average for the common entry level person. I stand by my comment that maybe 5% of welders are making 150k. The rest are not making anywhere near close.
I agree with this decision and I think the supreme court should ban "legacy admissions" as well. I think college admissions should be done by creating a serial number for each student. The admissions officer should not be able to look at name, race, gender, etc and only look at grades, test scores, and extra cirricular activities.
Where the hell are welders making 150k??? Probably like 5% of welders make that much. Most of the manual labor jobs (electrician, plumber, HVAC) make like 60k with 10 years of experience. New people start around 30k.
The utilities already charge a flat baseline connection fee. That should take care of all infrastructure and grid maintainance. If you want it your way then I say get rid of the flat connection fee.
Peak demand usually occurs between 11:00 and 2:00 pm. There is plenty of sunshine on rooftops at those times, so the panels are in fact generating power.
What the hell are you talking about. Any engineer will tell you that generating power at peak demand is much more expensive on the plant than at other times. So even though the customer is being billed zero, the utility still gains. Of course the utilities are greedy bastards so they go to the government for more money that they somehow feel they are entitled to. You see the utilities are the real welfare queens here.
This is exactly what is wrong with the schools here. Stupid administrators making decisions on what should and should not be taught in the classroom and disciplining teachers for actually inspiring their students to think and build things. All administrators want nowadays are kids who are only capable of mindlessly following a given set of instructions.
Oracle does this on nearly every project they work on. Same with IBM, TCS, Wipro, etc. All of those H1B visa abusing companies will never deliver on what they say and instead will fight the meaning of every word in the contract.
Exactly. All the stupid gun regulations in the world will not help because schools are unable to discipline the people causing problems and are unable to offer any recourse for victims
The kid would be bullied even more if his mom got involved. The teacher should have taken action and she did not. This IS a COMPLETE FAILURE BY THE SCHOOL

If they would label ISP's as common carriers none of this would be needed.

I think that Intel is just trying to jump on the internet of things (IoT), trillion sensors, and cloud computing bandwaggon.

I think it would be nice if congress went on recess forever instead of returning to enact shit like this.

Horse shit. The FCC doesn't censor TV for political content. Where is all the censorship you are complaining about???

Here in phoenix the plan I have with SRP charges me a $30 flat connection fee every month. $30 should be enough to cover line maintainance.
