"Germany Urges EU Wide Minimum Tax For Digital Giants"
Interesting sounds like the US Federal Taxes my businesses pay along with FICA, State, Sales, Gas, County and Local taxes here in the US. It is also interesting none of the layers ever look at the total all the taxing entities take from private businesses and individuals. It is always our tax is just this small amount which is totally reasonable.
Sure seems like an inter EU taxing issue to me. But I see that it is complicated so your point is made.
But wasn't the article about global taxes? And one thing I do know I don't want a bunch of other countries deciding how much of my income they get and I have nothing to say about it. And mark my words they say big tech now, but the real goal is all businesses/employee pay checks.
hiding and staying installed. Any corporate store Apple, Google whoever that allows this is just as criminal and unethical as the developers and companies who commit the act.
Any developers and companies caught doing this should have a permanent ban given for any current (even other apps that did not do this but from the same source) or future products.
I know some will say this is to hard. But until there is a price this will continue.
"susbstantial digital revenue in Europe, based on overall revenue in Europe and not just profits."
They want to tax gross revenue (before expenses) instead of net revenue (after expenses). To add a tax component as if it is a true expense.
The second issue is who would do this? The cost and overhead of implementation would overwhelm any ability to monitor the system. Each and every layer of every government involved would be skimming extra off the top for themselves. Much of the funds would just disappear in most countries. Heck in the US now no one in government can really tell anyone what the budget is and where funds flow to and from. Everything is just a poor guess designed to protect/cover who ever is currently in power.
Next, how would they share it? Based on population? So the western economies would be sending a wad of cash to India and China?
Last, they are just talking about the big tech companies now. But the real goal is all businesses/employee pay checks in every country. Well western countries/economies! But I am not to concerned because this will never happen. The only thing any group of counties can agree on is which country to stick the tab for dinner on.
"So, in a sense, voice will replace qwerty" only in the sense of turn on the lights, set the alarm, where is my wife.
To be useful voice needs to be the command prompt. And the masses are not capable of using that well. The skilled can but not the public over all. At least not at this point in time.
My eye sight is failing, stabilized now but there was a time I was looking in to braille keyboards. I am a self employed contract computer programmer. Not sure what the market is for a blind one? I am good now with in the reach of my arm;) Which allows me to work.
I have thought about keyboards/displays/input devices, I did switch to emacs way back, to do column blocks;) that is kinda like switching a keyboard. emacs is different (alien) those who know, know.
Is there something new coming yes but I have not seen it yet.
is humanity affecting our climate yea. Does our climate change yea. Can humanity do anything about it? No
Don't get me wrong we can emit less CO2 which is a good thing. But humanity has no ability to control or truly affect the climate.
5+ years ago I looked at starting to run servers and taking bitcoin in my business but even then it seemed like the train had already left the station. I decided to just stick with my market trading accounts. So that is the direction I stuck with. I just wish online trading accounts were around when I was young. Back then you had to deal through a broker.
Now I am with the get your popcorn ready crowd. And how about yesterdays regular market drop! Not even talking about bitcoin;) Lets see how all this works out.
I still use OpenOffice Calc 4.1.5 on a daily basis to keep job book. I always download each LibreOffice, but have not taken the time to switch over. I always put work I get paid for at the top of my list;) The one thing I do know is I will not use any online cloud based product, pointing at you Adobe DC, Microsoft Office local install or Microsoft O365 or Google docs in running my business.
OpenOffice vs LibreOffice I am agnostic they are just tools. And I don't get paid to fiddle with tools I just use them to do work.
I am thinking they will be shows along these lines, here are your 2 free episodes each of Bridezilla, Love the Wedding Dress, 14 Kids and Counting, Madam Secretary. My wife will love it.
No need to say, we don't watch TV together very often.
when you would get the model number off something check and see if the manufacturer was still in business and then call or write a letter requesting a manual. It does not bother me at all, the first thing I do is download a pdf now. Actually better because I get instantaneous gratification most of the time.
The other thing I have noticed is I buy very few books now, don't go to the library much anymore. But more interesting is I don't print save an archive information, I usually recall the search terms to display what I need at the time. Often don't try and save the information itself, just try and commit the search used to memory. But that brings up one thing, what happens if the internet goes down, it's back to the stone ages I guess;) lol
and everything seems to be working out well. The one thing that is annoying is the add DuckDuckGo dialog and the Cookie Dialog close each time you start your browser (DuckDuckGo is my home). Wish I could just go in to the options and turn them off for good. Maybe I can but I did not see that during my quickie setup.
Other than that I like it so far!
I despise the new version. Just poorly designed UI, takes more area, bloat, etc. I think it will be something I will be moving away from and not recommending. Something I only use when I have to deal with specific clients who require it.
Companies should remember, new features and redesigns often work out poorly for products that should have light footprints, do a small number of things well and not be over loaded with things most users will never use.
Didn't the Romans use small vessels in the concrete of the Pantheon roof? Looked for a url but could not find one right away.
In the case of the Pantheon roof, I thought that the small voids and the coffers used made the roof lighter.
