Actually its "no clones now, but we'll consider it later"
They don't know how to make money off of an apple clone. They are a hardware company, that (much like sun) is forced to produce/distribute an operating system/software due to its unique platform.
I was in the Bahamas when this happened. I feel so out of the loop. Meanwhile, did anyone else see the miller ligt commercials with Marc Andreesen and Norm MacDonald?
Yah, but the PC devalues. Therefore, a good lawyer could make the case that the feds owe the difference in the value. I think the fourth ammendment, if they seize your property, they have to pay you the full value, something like that.
You are right about portability. NT can Run in 32bits on the x86. It used to run in 32bits on the PowerPC, the Alpha, the Mips,and possibly others. It will run in 64bits on Merced.
NT is NOT the basis for windows ce. Windows CE is very much a different product from Embedded NT.

an X client is a GUI, the server is not. GNOME and KDE are desktops, Yes, they are accessed by a GUI, but Netscape has a GUI too. The application (client) has a user interface that uses an X server to make it graphical.
AOL has a computer setup to detect non AIM users, and then it sends them a long IM (from user AOLINSTANTMESSENGER) twlling them why they arebeing disconnected, and then 10 seconds later you are logged off. Thats the latest trick anyway, before this, AOL just gave all MSN users an automatic "evil" level of 1782% which automattically logs them off.
DEC claimed that Intel stole the Alpha design for their pentiums.
Intel paid the settlement, and, then, also bought out DEC processor manufacturing business and agreed to manufacture the Alpha for however-many years. Intel also gained ownership of the strongarm CPU in this deal.
It worked for Apple Vs. Digital Research Incorporated. They forced DRI to take all of the good features out of PC-GEM. Part of the reason that GEM was a failure.
The best way to grasp the success of the BWP is to go to a movie theater and watch the audience watching it. Any movie that can glue 200 teens to their chairs for more than an hour without hardly any of them making a sound understand its audience.
I don't know about you, but when I went to see it, nobody could go five minutes without making a smart-ass crack about how horrible this movie was.
It was nowhere near being scary. It was the worst movie I have ever seen.
I would have worn the polo-khaki.... but what is wrong with wearing a suit? it doesn't make you evil. In fact, IBMers wear suits and they support Linux, meanwhile, when was the last time you saw Gates wear a suit?
When I spoke to my dad about the RHAT IPO (he works on W Street) his exact response was, Linux is great, BUT, there aren't any applications.
A common misconception in businesses. Linux has plenty of apps, as well as a Major office suite that is on its way... (Wordperfect Office. Which, btw, I am currently evaluating... Extremely better than MS 2000) The only thing Linux doesn t have is Quicken, and that will come as soon as the marketshare gets high enough. (We'll prob have a pretty good replacement for it by then)
HEY! Don't give Katz any ideas, its enough that we have deal with Roblimo lately... I never thought I would say this, but/. is going down the toilet lately...
Yup, I saw it on ZDTV last week. It was, sadly, the only source of Tech news that I could find in the Bahamas.

Hey it worked for SUN
it can't be exported to certain countries.

>I've installed Windows 95 on a 486 DX-33 with a >120meg HD and 8 megs of RAM. It _crawled_, but >still ran.
I installed 95 on 486 66mhz, with a 200mb HD and 4 megs of ra,m, it was aweful.
Linux is Muy Bueno. It runs on anything from a lowly 386, to the latest and greatest Alpha processor.
Bryan Adams == Sucky
Celine Dion == Bitchy Diva
Alanis Morrisette == went way too far with the nudie music video.
and Sarah McLachlan... well, spell her friggin name right!
so has DEC Unix. and Solaris, and Aix, and.... a lot of other OSen
Blame Apple. They killed GEM with one of their damned "look and feel" lawsuits. they made DRI take all of the "good" stuff out of GEM

Damn newbies...

If you don't like it, call your cable provider and order MuchMusic.
I Hate That Guy!
I especially love the way, that he can give you no reason other than THIS IS SOO COOL! to try to get you to buy it.

It was probably Rob's fault. Maybe he was trying some experimental code or something.
The Alpha is too expensive for me, BUT:

are all you need for that. You could charge for the Telnet account if you wanted to rent the software. Bill is behind the times.

Well, kinda. But IBM PPC boards are PReP, MacOS runs on CHRP hardware. It might be possible to turn a BeBox into a mac, since it is CHRP based.
