You seem to think that there is an implicit .us at the end of every domain unless you add another country code.. This isn't true. .us is a top level domain, .com is another one, and.uk and.gov are others.
The.us domain is partitioned by state, like.ny.us.. You can't register a.com.us.
You're right.. The arbitrary limitation that we can only register into.com.org and.net is becoming indefensible.
New TLDs are coming. Name.Space is running 500+ of them, and has been for 3 years. There haven't been any technical problems with the name service. It's just a political problem. You can switch to these nameservers to resolve everything from.art to.zone.
NS.AUTONO.NET 209.48.2.11
NS10.AUTONO.NET 206.86.247.30
NS1.AUTONO.NET 198.6.71.125
ROOT3.AUTONO.NET 195.11.229.188
NS8.AUTONO.NET 130.242.7.200
ALLADIN.DDS.NL 194.109.21.20
NS.RE-LAB.LV 195.2.100.2
Name.Space will take registrations in these domains. These domains are probably going to end up in the root zone file eventually.
Until that time, you get an entry in the .xs2.net domain, so it will be globally accessible as yourdomain.newtld.xs2.net.
My '99 Golf has DRLs too.. I can 'turn-off' the DRLs and run dark by pulling the Emergency brake up to the first tick. The car thinks I'm parked, and the lights go out.
The first tick of the emergency brake doesn't apply any (noticable) braking...(I hope)..
Name.Space does the redirection for you. Use their dns411 tool. It is simply the best one on the net. www.dns411.com You can also transparently look up ARIN netblocks and all kinds of handle info. Available via command line with:
$ alias swhois="whois -h namespace.org" $ swhois corenic.net
These guys still have to send the registration to NetworkSolutions and pay them the same $70... It's still a monopoly, NSI just doesn't have to do all of their own marketing anymore...
In fact, it's impossible to get a 'new' globally recognized domain without NSI...
The FBI can investigate all it wants to.. The First Article of the Bill of Rights refers to Congress, not the FBI.. When this guy goes to JAIL for advocating encryption, then we'll have a problem..
As invasive and spooky as it is that this guy's being investigated for treason, that's all it is... just investigation... Nobody's breathing is at stake here....
Name.Space is the company you're talking about. This company has been doing registrations for new TLDs for 3 years. The windows software you're talking about only changes your DNS to point to one of the many name servers that carry Name.Space's zones. The.com.org.net space is way too crowded, and NSI will have to open the root zones for these new TLDs sooner or later... So it's not just a novelty registration..
Hmmm... My Flip-top cover is getting a little stripped. If I make any sudden wrist moves, it flies off. Hence, I have to be really careful when i try to use the PalmIII to look cool....
I HATE the convex buttons on all PalmIII models. I have a PalmIII, and I am constantly tempted to press the buttons with the pen, rather than reach a finger over.. (Especially when I'm using it with one hand.) The pen just slides off of the buttons.. With the PalmV, the stylus-friendly concave buttons are a subtle plus...
I don't believe that Mooby really did it. I'd think that the page at nerdhero.org would have been updated if that were true.. This guy with the 2600.com (yeah right) address is pulling a fast one... He may not even know mooby...
These domains are available now at Name.Space Go ahead and register them.
Talk About a Shotgun Wedding! This is a railgun/BFG10000 wedding! So, he should hit her with a grappling hook and reel her in like Scorpion...

I've always thought that Thawte did
a better job than Verisign. They are cheaper
too, I believe..(though it's been a while)..
They do NOTHING for you! They don't even
make your site more secure...
They are snake-oil salesmen, at best.

I noticed your User Info is an earthlink URL.
Not many people know this, but
Earthlink is owned by Scientology.
I guess Germans aren't supposed to use
Earthlink (or their acquired mindspring)
either...
If you hate Scientology as much as I do,
you should switch providers and vote with
your wallet.

You can renew with anyone you want... NSI can't hold you prisoner... My company Name.Space would be happy to renew your domain registration.

Well, if rape, murder, theft, starvation,

for 'entertainment', I'm sure people WOULD

Yes, but this is in a country that
can't decide wheter pounds means a
unit of money to Force.
Although, I suppose they don't use
pounds as a unit of force anymore,
because they are all metric'ed out.
