    Since Trump has never articulated a comprehensive science/tech platform, the most we can hope for right now is that the Democrats will finally be shocked into ditching the anti-science left and reaching back to its great days of popularity under Roosevelt to rebuild its base.

    Today's Democrats look for fake religious reasons - not even scientifically testable environmental arguments - why pipelines should not be built.

    Such as, how much do Trump's people know about the energy situation. Trump himself has said some good things, like finally opening the Shoreham nuclear plant, but during the campaign he promoted coal, everyone's least favorite energy source, and ducked a question about opening Yucca Mountain. At least we'll get the Dakota Access Pipeline finished now, and probably as part of a specific push for energy independence.

    My vote goes to whoever invents a practical means of killing robocall centers. So should the Nobel Peace Prize.

  5. This does seem like a more sensble test track than LA to SF. At least land is cheap (mostly desert), power is cheap (mostly oil and solar) and labour is cheap (mostly slave).

    And best of all, no California regulations, Green warriors, or NIMBYites.

    Tesco opened a number of stores in Phoenix a few years ago (under the name Fresh 'n' Easy), before quietly withdrawing after they decided they weren't making enough in the competitive Western grocery market. They didn't do any banking there, though.

    Yes, IT people could become longshoremen except that for the most part we are no good at beating people up. But would we be able to whistle at women again?

    Social opprobrium is what kills off usage of a drug, not the law. Tobacco is less popular today than every drug on the DEA schedule, including heroin. If we put tobacco on the schedule, it would probably become more popular.

    You Greens are now faced with a dilemma. To stop a space telescope, you will have to put on space suits and get into orbit, rather than just showing up in Hawaii and piling rocks on a road. Your dilemma is that doing so will go against everything you people stand for. As an ultimate humiliation, the Russians will probably insist on vaccinations before you get to go to their spaceport and ride in their vehicle.

    And if you do use one of those alternative search engines, what assurance do you have, exactly, that its business model is not something other than the Anonymous Billionaire Providing Service Out of Sheer Altruism you are assuming?
