They come with a good set of hardware and software and update the software for each new phone for a few months, but after that they tend to forget about the phone and move onto the next piece of hardware without looking back.
Exactly: a short while after selling it they forget about it. I have asked their support people why they won't release new software and they just give bullshit answers. That is why I will not buy another HTC phone and warn others about them.
you just download and install a new copy on your new machine. There is no point in bothering to uninstall the old one. Which is better from this point of view ?
I went there, they refused to display anything unless I enable it - I hate sites like that. I would have read what they had to say, as it is I did not.
Ten years ago my parents bought me a video camera, they were on holiday in the USA. A few months later it broke. Panasonic UK refused to service it (even if I paid) claiming that it was not one of their products. Basically they were protecting their extra margin because these things were sold at a higher price in the UK than in the USA.
This is short termed thinking - I will avoid buying from them ever again.
Companies like globalisation - they make goods where it is cheapest and sell the same stuff at different prices everywhere. But if we, the consumer, try to do the same they stop it. There is an inbalance of power, large corporates abuse it. We like to think that we live in a free market, we do not.
Oh, lordy me... I was also forgetting May 4th -- International Star Wars day, the Jedi attacking me I don't want.
You see: once we start having holidays for some groups, we have to have them for all of them!
It has happened to me several times. I am a Linux consultant, some places have said that they have a problem, need a few days work - can I go & talk to them, how would I fix their problems. The 'shopping list' of potential issues that I give them makes a good check list for them. Rogues, yes - but likewise there are people who claim to be able to do things but cannot, thus the in depth questions. Hard to get this right.
You are an expert in two fields: paleontology & theology; please compare and contrast the quality of the evidence that supports the theories in each field and how the theories are objectively and repeatably tested.
Please pay particular attention to: independent verifiabilty of evidence; tests that could be performed which would show these these theories to be false (and, presumably, how the theories have been found to surive such tests); how the theories have been modified over time in the light of new evidence that has been discovered; independent critical peer review of writings about each set of theories; how full evidence is widely and completely made available; objective comparisons with competing theories; how critical discussion of competing theories happens in a calm manner without ad-hominem attacks.
I have an Amazon account and a Nexus with Kindle reader.
But when you have finished reading your book(s), can you freely give them to a friend ?
I can do that with the paper books that I have, but electronic ones ?
The theory that we evolved colour vision to see our friends blush would imply that our close cousins (apes -- who generally seem to have black faces) do not have colour vision, but they do.
To not do so is called abuse of monopoly, it is anti competitive. It pushed up maintainance prices, these prices are, generally, not considered when buying a new camera. Hopefully: in a few years NiKon cameras will have aquired a bad reputation for high maintainace and no one will buy them.
Before anyone says: Nikon do not have a monopoly in selling cameras, they just are trying to get one when it comes to maintaining them - by tying repair shops to them & presumably charging large approval fees.
No: this is a completely different issue, it is not about new tech make old tech obsolete. It is as if you could only have your horses shod at a few ''approved'' farriers. Supply & demand would mean that these farriers could charge a lot of money... but to become approved they need to pay bribes\h\h\h\h\h\h 'approval & training fees' to a central body.
If it is not in the contract that he agreed to then the extra $30 is illegal or AT&T have taken the extra $30 'in error'. He must tell AT&T (in writing) that they do not have the authority to take the extra $30 from his bank account. When (I though of saying 'if', but the bully expects to be able to do what they want) they do then tell his bank that $30 was not authorised and give them a copy of the correspondence -- the bank will then have to refund the $30.
BBC runs (& pays for, ultimately paid by the TV license) some radio stations, there are plenty of 'commercial' stations (paid for by advertising). The radio license was dropped long before commercial radio started.
The government gives the BBC some money to run the World Service (radio), but this was cut 2-4 years ago, I don't know how much such funding remains.
I was more worried about the silicates that could get into the engine. Do you remember what happened when the volcano in Iceland blew up a few years ago? -- the one with the impossible name.
Those fines are seen as part of the cost of doing business, anyway they are paid by the bank there is little penaty on the individual.
If you want to change behaviour action is needed against the individuals who committed the crimes - put them inside, sell their homes to pay large fines. That may cause future generations of bankers to think; just fineing the bank will do nothing.

It is available under a BSD-type license which will make it more attractive to some companies than Linux which is under the GPL.
Name & shame them!
Moderated troll! Can you guys not detect humour ?

The Pastafarian holiday International Talk Like a Pirate day: 19 September, to not do so would be religious discrimination.

Nah, what is a car other than a modern, new fangled horse? Your & my analogies are pretty much the same thing :-)

There is a fire at the SCO offices ....
Attack while they are all watching a football match

I assume that there is a direct debit guarantee similar to what we have in England.
I assume that they did so by looking at some kind of signature from the 'phone when it connects to their network. Can anyone tell us what that is ?

Places like Britain where you pay a license fee for owning/operating receivers doesn't count
In England we have not needed a radio receiving license for some 40 years. Yes, we need one for television, but no longer for radio.

Mod parent up.
We would all be better off if the world had fewer lawyers.
