A german law firm is sending a cease and desist letter to a German citizen(I think) (Dr Kai-Uwe Sattler) at a German university (University of Magdeburg) on behalf of the German branch of an American corporation, by whom they were NOT retained.
And the whole thing is legal in Germany.
While it may be sneaky and underhanded, it's legal in the country where the events are taking place.
HERE HERE! My sister took her first programming course last semseter. Java.
I spent one evening with her going over the basics of OO programming so that she could finish her projects. It took her a while because the prof had been trying to teach Java as a procedural language. Stupid.
Learn C first (not C++!) or Pascal or ADA. OO is VERY COMPLEX and should be taught later, IMNSHO.
If I check crap into source code control and it doesn't work, I get yelled at. Nobody cares if I was tired or angry or anything else at the time, it's my job to do my job.
If they SELL me a crappy game that won't even INSTALL on most machines it is valid to yell at them.
And I found the review helpful. I know I won't be buying it until patches are released at least.
Knowing WHY it sucks doesn't help me. I can't change any of that. Only the fact that it does suck matters.
The Register story on this read as "Intel targets Transmeta". Doesn't that kind of strike you as "Intel Targets Joe Blow"?
An Intel spokes-droid said today "Since we've utterly failed to compete with AMD, we've decided to set our sights lower. Transmeta, watch out! We're taking your nonexistant market share!"
Yep, and my family's been through it twice with success both times. There are ways to get a reliable adoption, but it requires not being so picky about gender, age and race.
Shit happens, but many many many adoptions happen successfully, too.
Why don't you bitch about MILITARY spending, which easily dwarfs NASA's entire budget, and is designed to KILL PEOPLE!
JFC. I love the way 1/2 the people I talk to want to take NASA's budget and give it to the military. Like we need BETTER ways to scour the planet clean of life.
We could also realize that the price we HAVE been paying is extremely depressed from the real value of the (power|natural gas|gasoline) and stop using quite so much of it.
And in California's case they really screwed the utils hard. Their prices were allowed to fluctuate but they couldn't pass any on to the consumers? And this is DEREGULATION? No, it's deregulation of the power company's outlay without deregulating their income. Say "Goodbye" to profit/profitability.
I can't wait till Ohio follows California's "brilliant" power deregulation scheme. So glad I don't live where I work!
Almost the same thing happened to me, except I was one of the people on an e-mail list who got termination reports to turn off access to a certian system. Looking down the list one day (I didn't usually, macros usually handle it) I see a familiar name. Apparently my last day had been the day before (but they still hadn't disabled my e-mail or network login!).
Took MONTHS to get it resolved. Teach HR not to fat-finger employee IDs!!! (Worst part was, there were 2 systems. The data was right in one but when the person RETYPED it into the second system, I got automagically fired!)
This is fairly common, actually. I know several hospitals in my area that have similar deals. They'll bring their generators on-line at peak times and, in exchange, pay MUCH less.
Works well for everyone. They have to have the generating capacity sitting there for emergencies anyway, so they get some use out of it during the summer (around here)
Ah, but what's the point in a Fort Knox that NOBODY (EVER) knows is there. If there are USERS (guards, authorized personel), all you've done is fool yourself into thinking your secure.
The point: People use MS systems. THEY'RE the ones at risk, not Microsoft. MS wouldn't do SHIT to fix vulnerabilities if they thought they could get away with it, it's a money pit.
Most bugs are discovered by users. Most security holes are discovered by Sysadmins and crackers. They bitch to MS because MS is the only entity that can fix them. The information is in the public domain LONG before MS hears about it and chooses to do anything about it.

Agreed, I have spent more than $200 on Linux games and have only been disapointed with one (nothing technical, I just didn't enjoy it much)
I HAVE been spending money on the games. I've just been outvoted by everyone who wants to buy the windows version and download binaries for Linux later:-(.
I think 10 digit dialing is a great idea...
EXCEPT...
Our crappy phone system at work DOESN'T WORK WITH IT! I haven't been able to call home since they did an area code split and I work and live in different area codes.
How stupid, now I won't be able to call ANY local numbers. I wish they would just dump this stupid system, but they'll probably give the idiotic vendor till 2002 to fix it.
Small states aren't ignored. Hmm... I wonder how come I don't recall seeing Bush or Gore in Kentucky this election. Oh, they spent plenty of time across the river in Ohio or in Tennessee, but I don't think either of them came to the Bluegrass state at all...
Could it have been our piddly 8 electors as opposed to Ohio (21) and Tennessee (11)? Why yes, that could be it.
Get real. You need 12 states to be president. California (54), Texas (32), New York (33), Flordia (25), Ohio (21), Pennsylvania (23), Illinois (22), Michigan(18), North Carolina (14) and almost any other 3 states. What candidate in their right mind would spend ANY time in a state with less than 10 electoral votes?
It works out great for California and other states like it, but don't pretend that "Small states and areas with low population density are not ignored".
Abolish the electoral system? Maybe, but if you keep it, keep it for real reasons.
Um, I believe he was reffering to when the Victoria's Secret ad ran during the superbowl and resulted in a crashed website.
Although your link made interesting reading.

Not entirely true. I had 57 karma for quite a while after the karma cap went into effect. You could go down, just not up. I'm sure there are people out there with Uber-50 karma still.
How about "Unimpressive Logistics"? You've got to admit, the quantities available are somewhat... disapointing.
Combined with the impressive launch, it makes it even more sad that you can't get one!

No, I don't think so. I think you've encountered Karma Freeze. It sets in around 50pts, I think.
I just means you can't really go up beyond that point. It happens to everyone, sooner or later. Nothing personal, I've been stuck there for about a year.
But don't you think that this is interfeering with my ability to choose the right product for my application?
If MS (or anyone) doesn't let anything negative be said about their product, you're not getting the full picture.
Next time you read a review of a car, imagine if they were only allowed to say things that the car manufacturer approved. Every car would come across as a Rolls Royce or BMW. You wouldn't be able to decide till you bought one, and even then you wouldn't be able to tell your friends how it preforms.

Rambus didn't.
END OF LINE.
So glad to see people justifying the existance of ACs like this. Ahhhh... anonymity. :-)

Hey, where's our Life-Day Spectacular? I wanted some wookie pr0n for Life Day!
Now I can listen over and over and over and over and over again to this one and keep the cute ninjas at bay for a few more weeks.
But if you slack on the next episode and the ninjas leave my severed Logitech Marble Trackman in your bed as a warning, don't say I didn't warn you!
