During the Gulf wars, the PATRIOT was the only thing with ANY chance to shoot down a ballistic missile that existed in the world - the system was designed to shoot down bombers, and was rushed into service as an anti-missile system shortly after a single proof-of-concept test where they hit a PATRIOT incoming missile with an outgoing missile.
Not sure where the 40% success rate mentioned in a previous post came from, but even taking that as a given, the troops were doing a hell of a lot better at 40% of the enemy missiles getting stopped than 0%!
You really need to look at these things with some perspective. War is an inexact science at best - no one can wait for perfection, or often even wait for halfway-decent.
Sorry this is a bit off-topic, but what IMAP server do you use for your middle solution dbc? I've looked into doing that myself a time or two before, but I could never find any advice on how to do that, or even what IMAP servers would be best to try it with.
Thanks,
Branman
I know what you mean - I was lurking around Slashdot for about 2 years before getting an account.

My apologies - I didn't intend for my post to be a bash of Dick and Al, though in my defense your post didn't do much to make them sound like they knew what they were doing.
Drag racing is a dangerous and exacting sport, pushing mechanical and material science to the hairy edge and beyond - I wish you well with it.
Assclown was a bit much though.

So, in other words they were idiots who tested this contraption for the first time at a drag strip by doing a full-power, pedal to the floor, stomp from a dead standstill? Brilliant.
From what I understand they put their brand on it. In effect, they are saying, "these are our boxes we sell to you. We may have a 3rd party manufacture them for us, but they are ours. See our logo?"
When you do that, you are the source, so you must comply. Period. IANAL, but I think that's how a judge would see it.
Let's pop the balloon right here - taxing the rich into poverty will not generate enough tax revenue to even balance the budget. There aren't enough of them. The bulk of the tax revenue comes from the middle class - always has, always will. If any politician tells you they're going to cut taxes for the middle class, they're lying. They can't - that's where the money comes from. Cut MC taxes by 10%? Revenue is down, 10%. Period.
Thanks for the post. I have another silly question though - which I'm sure others are asking themselves. If you have particle A and particle B, entangled in spin say, then when you measure A the entangled state collapses, you get the spin for A, and you know what the spin for B will measure. OK so far?
Silly question is, if we haven't measured anything yet, how do we know there is some 'spooky action at a distance'? Maybe particle A's spin was ALWAYS up, and B's was ALWAYS down, you just didn't know it until you measured it? What led us to this idea of superposition in the first place?
Even more ironically, there IS one piece of irony in the Song - 'He waited his whole damn life to take that flight, and as the plane crashed down he said "Well, isn't this nice?"'. Rather textbook definition of it actually. So there.
Efficiency means nothing if the charger is ALWAYS on and ALWAYS drawing power - no matter if it transmits it to the device to be charged at 85%. 90% or more of the time, the device will not BE there to be charged. So you are still sending power off into space wastefully.
The web site is beyond atrocious, but there is quite a lot of good stuff there. Some of the free stuff is really good - though I haven't read all of it by any means.
You're really going to tell someone with a UID only 530,295 higher than yours that they're "new here"? Your UID is hardly lower than mine either. Also, do you know what the current UIDs being handed out are? I doubt it.
I now bow out for someone with a 5 digit UID to come in and smack you around, to be followed by someone with a 4 digit, then finally a 3-digit. (Much lower than that is an extreme rarity... I mean, there ARE in theory only 90 2-digit UIDs...)
Smack!!! It's about a zombie apocalypse. Of COURSE we RTFA.
That special place in hell for Disney slaves, in my imagination, has those in it injected with a nerve toxin that causes excruciating pain that never fades. They are in the midst of a huge laboratory with every chemical known to man, and the formula for the antidote (which must be exact to work, otherwise it just makes the pain worse) is under copyright for one year, and so unavailable to them. And each year, the copyright on it is voted to be extended. For one year, each time, for eternity.
One small point - you state you don't need to replace your gas tank after 6000 cycles like you would these new batteries. I'd just like to point out that 6000 tank-fulls of gas @300 miles / tank is 180K miles. Time to replace your car at that point. If the electric can get 300 miles on a charge, then you have basically a lifetime battery.
Interesting perspective - I haven't studied Aikido itself. I studied Karate under a great instructor for over 2 years. What I know of Aikido - we borrowed a bit from other arts - is they were the most vicious, nastiest, do-not-use-this-unless-you-are-about-to-get-KILLED, moves we learned.
They were all reactive, now that I think about it, but one started with a block, then an eardrum shatter, then ended with throwing the person to the ground so that their own momentum broke their neck.
This is non-combative?? Though I can understand a general reluctance to practice full-speed. We sure didn't with the moves we borrowed.

Yeah, I must hear that a thousand times a day. Literally! Drives me nuts.

You insensitive clod! 25,000 is an adult dose! Just eating 1,000 could kill a child. Oh the humanity!

"professional hunger strikers"? Do they stand on street corners and carry signs that say "will fast for food"?

Idiot! We have ALWAYS been at war with Eurasia!
Hot damn! Learn something new every day. Thanks!

Awesome. Has anyone done experimental verification with entangled triplets? I always seen them talked about as pairs only.

Revolutionary war time, there were private individuals with field guns - the howitzers of the day. So, yes, artillery too.

Why not buy your books from Baen? It's great if you are into SciFi - I get mine there on principal too. NO. DRM. EVER.

True - now that you say it, it was more of a sidestep, not a block
