  1. Re:The company that developed Patriot missiles ... on US Army Considers a Smartphone For Every Soldier · · Score: 1
During the Gulf wars, the PATRIOT was the only thing with ANY chance to shoot down a ballistic missile that existed in the world - the system was designed to shoot down bombers, and was rushed into service as an anti-missile system shortly after a single proof-of-concept test where they hit a PATRIOT incoming missile with an outgoing missile.

Not sure where the 40% success rate mentioned in a previous post came from, but even taking that as a given, the troops were doing a hell of a lot better at 40% of the enemy missiles getting stopped than 0%!

You really need to look at these things with some perspective. War is an inexact science at best - no one can wait for perfection, or often even wait for halfway-decent.

Let's pop the balloon right here - taxing the rich into poverty will not generate enough tax revenue to even balance the budget. There aren't enough of them. The bulk of the tax revenue comes from the middle class - always has, always will. If any politician tells you they're going to cut taxes for the middle class, they're lying. They can't - that's where the money comes from. Cut MC taxes by 10%? Revenue is down, 10%. Period.

Thanks for the post. I have another silly question though - which I'm sure others are asking themselves. If you have particle A and particle B, entangled in spin say, then when you measure A the entangled state collapses, you get the spin for A, and you know what the spin for B will measure. OK so far?

Silly question is, if we haven't measured anything yet, how do we know there is some 'spooky action at a distance'? Maybe particle A's spin was ALWAYS up, and B's was ALWAYS down, you just didn't know it until you measured it? What led us to this idea of superposition in the first place?

Interesting perspective - I haven't studied Aikido itself. I studied Karate under a great instructor for over 2 years. What I know of Aikido - we borrowed a bit from other arts - is they were the most vicious, nastiest, do-not-use-this-unless-you-are-about-to-get-KILLED, moves we learned.

They were all reactive, now that I think about it, but one started with a block, then an eardrum shatter, then ended with throwing the person to the ground so that their own momentum broke their neck.

This is non-combative?? Though I can understand a general reluctance to practice full-speed. We sure didn't with the moves we borrowed.
