Seeing some of the discussions about being able to render FF8 in real time using the 3D models is a bit silly. A movie is not like a game. These GeForce cards are designed more for doing 'unpredictable' realtime motion. A movie is all predetermined motion. For example a movie could be compressed into the 'visible surface meshes' and textures required to render the scenes. The model database would only be required to generate meshes that could later be rendered in realtime. Two different things IMHO
Opt-out will never work - Just browsing the web gets you on lists. I've now getting span on a private e-mail address. Must have turned on javascript or something one time, and Bang they got it. They sold it. It propagates faster than roaches in a taco stand on the spammer lists. What we need is a better POP3 mail system. That way they never deposit mail in my mailbox to begin with. Pretty soon they will do like the telemarketers, and generate names-on-the-fly.
This looks catered to all of us game freaks. Up side: It would be cool to frag that dude due to turbulence. Downside: Loosing a match due to landing would suck. Whoops forgot, can't have kiddies playing those kind of games in public.
Use the PS2 as a remote XConsole - cheaper than a second PC for your server. Then you could play Dynasty Warriors 2 and program at the same time. As far as a 'Terminal' with graphics capabilities it would beat any 'dumb' terminal out there for hooking to mainframes, etc.
BTW. If you did get a PS2/Linux box would you not get any games? I would. Therefore; Sony would still make the bucks.
Maybe then you would start seeing networked games for lots of the the current PS2 games. The current AI is good, but you can kick its ass quickly. Real people playing make for challanging games. I tire of one 'twitch' game after another.
My god you people are whining about only 170000 symbols to represent languange. Boy will you be surprised when you have to speak Altarian - some of the symbols are math formulss, some can't be produced by the human vocal system, some are gestures, and some are transmitted telepathicly.
And on the lighter side. IMHO it would be better to code the document with a tag to represent the symbol set and not worry about being able to stuff all of the worlds symbols in a single symbol set. Although the fight to be language '1' would be interesting. BTW, we have lost so many languages/symbol representations already.
They deserve each other. now MS will have to deal with tech calls like "Why am I getting busy signals?" and "Why did I just get disconnected?" etc all.

This is your only warning as further infringments on our intellectual property will cause us to sic our fleets of lawyers and Tinker Bell on you. (Boy does she get mad - don't say we didn't warn you)
Anybody remember the fiasco when Unisys decided to 'protect' the LZW compression code by getting a patent on it? Up till then averybody was using it because they thought it was free.
Ground GIF files into the ground, PNG files came shortly after, and it was open-source.
I always thought that patents and copyrights was to make sure that nobody BUT you could use it. Mundies is using double-speak to try and enforce the idea that MS is right and GPL code is wrong.
It will never work. The only way we will be able to deal with those damn spammers is to take direct action. However; that would also be D.O.S. When they get 3 million messages all saying to P**S OFF maybe then they will figure out spam is not the way to go.
Maybe we should sponser a bill to eliminate that damn D.O.S. clause.
Watermark a PGP encoded MP3 file with the key. Then use a Watermark detector to get the key. Use a watermark remover on the file. PGP decode using the key.
BTW since windows decided to become more restrictive on the media it plays, people will be pissed that they can't play their music and finally make the switch to Linux. (stage three and counting)
Since I have a VCD recoder - I've been taking my movies to CD. That way I can watch them on my laptop. Not all my movies are DVD and my laptop does'nt have a DVD. I have burned about 200+ or so just for movies.
BTW IT takes about 1.2 gb to store a years worth of moderated pictures for only one newsgroup. On some newsgroups its closer to 200mg a month. That's how much prOn is out there.
At work we use about 30 cd's a day for 4 track audio recording. Soon we will be using more.
Besides since cd-r's got so cheap its like, "failed burn? - so what, pop another cd in the bbq" 30 cents will still only get you a phone call, but a cd gets you 10hr of music
Compatablility is the primary issue here. There will allways be a difference between DirectX vs. 'simulated DirectX' uner WineX. We all know how windows loves those 'copyrighted undocumented user interfaces'
So I say have all the games ported instead. I'll keep around a PC that can dual boot or just run native Win(x) for those games that don't port.
Go Native, expose yourself to culture! Run nakid through the performing arts theatre.
Well Qwest could tell MSN they will not bundle the cost of ISp with the phone bill. (Yea, Right!) Personally thats why I liked Qwest, I did have bundled ISP/phone bill - one less thing to remenber to pay the bill for!
According to one of the posters only the 'home' account type will be switched. I'm going to switch to the buisness account so I can get my 8 block of static IP's (Qwest makes you go to buisness account be default.)
Since I'm now a 'Buisness' my Q3 and UT servers should be better. I'm also in Denver so I'll be watching this too.
Yeah and I know of one they could use real easy. Linux has problems reading XA-2 format CD-ROM data (what a VCD uses) without a special driver.
I have not programmed a vcd-player as such, but I have collected the parts and glued them together in order to play vcd's from the cd-rom under linux. I found out that the VMWARE emulation of Windows under the host of Linux is not good enough to read a VCD.
wait for it...

Are they loosing it? That's the one thing windows IS good for.
I would suggest getting more of us 'geeks' in the house and senate, but who of us want to be a politician?

Gracenote = Unisys
Roxio = Compuserve
CDDB = GIF
Freedb = PNG
Nuff said.
Yea bu thte onboard games would rock. Plus you would have the privilage of joining the l33t clan MhC (Mile High Clan)
Any other takers for ways?

Just like the government to put up a bait site like in the book "The Cuckoo's Egg"
Go into Circuit City and look at the Tivo's. Then ask sales droid when 2.5 will be shipped with the models. Watch sales droid face go blank.

Would be WineX running Bleem running Playstation games
