...Simply put in a disclaimer: If you run OSX on non Apple hardware or in a VM you are on your own for support. Or is that against the law?
It doesn't even have to be like that. All apple needs to do is to post an HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) Which consists of HW that is known (or certified by apple) to work. Anything not on that list will result in a dial tone if you call apple about it to report a problem. Other Vendors such as Vmware (for ESX) and Oracle (formerly Sun) et al do this.
This is why I switched to Mac OS (and Linux) at home. No Windows Now when my Windows using family members have issues, I say "I'm sorry but I don't use the product so I can't really help you." My family members are too cheap to spring the $$$ for a Mac.
And now, I'm not "tech support" anymore; which some members of my family have been ungrateful for in the past.
The problem is, how would you support Linux? They would have to "offically" support specific Distro's such as (an LTS release of) Ubuntu, Fedora, or Suse. Which means that if you run one of the lesser known distros (or one of the Bleeding edge) then you'll be S.O.L. when an update for your distro breaks something that Steam or one of it's games needs to run.
I can't blame valve for not wanting to take this challenge on. Unfortunately, Linux is too much of a moving target.
My ISP Time Warner Cable is not deploying DOCSIS 3.0 b/c 1) they want to tie the upgrade to per Kb metered billing. They tried it in Upstate NY and suffered a massive Backlash. 2) They've gone record as saying that they will be deploying it "Surgically" which is short hand/code for they will only deploy it in areas where they have competition from Verizon's FIOS. To date, TWC has deployed Docsis 3 to one small test area in NYC. that's it.
And speaking of FIOS, Verizon has stated that they've slowed/stopped expansion to new areas and will concentrate on improving service in areas they've already deployed. So if your town/zip doesn't have FIOS yet, don't expect them anytime soon.
You do realize WinXP 64 is a nitch product right? Not much Software is specifically written for it and with it being now 2 releases old, you aren't going see much.
Arstechnica has a pretty good write-up on what it is and how it works. I've been using it for several months now. I don't give out my real number anymore and trying to get people to delete my old number and use my Google Voice number to reach me. As It gives much more control.
And yeah, it's somewhat cumbersome to initiate a call from the website but (much) less so than it is to do that from your phone. A native iPhone app would solve most of the hassles of initiating calls..
Anyone have some first-hand experience with Google Voice willing to share their thoughts? I find it very intriguing but am very hesitant to use it without knowing more...
I've always wondered why automobile makers don't make use of the Windshield as a HUD for GPS directions/Dashboard info, etc.
That would be a better than having to look down slightly to glance at a screen a few inches below on the Dash. I'm sure someone is doing this but I haven't seen or heard of a car that has this.
So basically you're saying that people can install MS Office or Dreamweaver, but not FileZilla?
No, that's not what I'm saying. The post I replied to said that pretty much every third party client has SFTP support. Given that Windows ships with an ftp client and server, Why won't they ship an SFTP client or server? MS gives us telnet, but no ssh. WTF!? Pretty much every OS I've used in recent years has these, but Windows does not.

I can't see why they should be considered well-regarded then. That's negligence. Pretty much every Windows FTP client for the last 5 years commercial or otherwise does SFTP now.
Well, third-party clients, Yes. But, why is that in 2009, Microsoft doesn't ship a client (or a server) that does SFTP with their OS?
..On whether these caps will affect Earthlink Subscribers? (of which I am one.) If so, I will be looking for another provider and make sure that they know that the Bandwidth caps/Metered Billing are the reason I'm leaving.
If you're a TW/Earthlink customer, and use any linux/BSD/Opensolaris distro and update frequently, you should be concerned about this.
While you are correct in that it can keep certain cheating individuals out of hot water w/ their S/O's. If I really wanted to store the Mistress' number on my phone, I'd add it as an alternate to an existing contact.
Won't raise suspicion unless you're S/O answers your phone and it's the other one calling...
1. A more complete bluetooth stack that does OBEX and A2DP and Syncing. 2. an IChat client. 3. A side swipe like the one in Mail and SMS to delete individual calls from the recents List. 4. Notes Sync with the Desktop. 5. Voice Dialing (ala Voice Commmand on Winmo) would be nice.
They've been fairly accurate in predicting when the next refresh happens. Plus you can read what the mac-heads think about the HW in the Discussion boards. (hint: it not all wine and roses.)
I'm also a big fan of flashing the firmware of anything you can get your hands on whilst under the influence of a 4 pack of beer.
Oh Wow you Too!?! I Love flashing firmware. I try to update firmware on almost any device I come across.//Wonder if there's a online group or website devoted to firmware flashers. hmmm.... Uh, I gotta go register a domain. ttyl.
This minimalist distro that you speak of.... The one with a "very good package system" that's controlled via this command "apt-get". Can we call it something geeky like oh, I don't know, Debian? Or how about something more worldly, like Ubuntu?
Dumped? Not quite. aptitude is a user front-end to apt-get. apt-get was never intended to be the front end for package management.

No, not everyone. You can buy whatever whatever makes you happy with *your* own money. :-)
I just want to use something that none of them will likely buy (and waste my time about when they have issues.)

I'm in a similar boat as you.

Good luck with that.

Wrong, Thanks for playing. The website does not use the mic. You clearly have never used it or you wouldn't have posted this.

Thank you, I was looking this. I was afraid that there weren't any old-school hip-hop lovers on Slashdot.

My bad! I meant nLite, not BartPE.

Seconded. This is so annoying.
May I recommend then, this page?

Throw this Cuban Linux Distro on an ePC and Whenever you pull it out: "Say hello to my little Friend."
