The beauty of Unix is that you can update most of the software independently of the kernel. but you're right, if you don't apply updates then you can be vulnerable. Another thing to consider is some faulty HW doesn't get noticed until boot time. So you can never be absolutely certain that it's working. Sometimes there's even silent corruption of the Filesystem.

Or something? Not optimal, I know (and if you're forking out that kind of money, it's kind of wrong to have to resort to it), but is there anything you can put on a glossy screen to eliminate the glossiness?

I hate glossy screens on laptops - they look like shit and are impossible to use for long periods of time. I think I read that these are glass screens(?), so maybe it'll be less annoying than the plastic ones.

Here's a better idea. Why don't you buy a Matte screen appropriate for your purposes, and be done with it.

Why are you so willing spend time and money to modify this thing when you could just buy one that meets it? Does your work require apple HW?

The unlockable weapons as they pertain to TF2 are there as as an incentive to strive for. Obtaining them only changes the game play mechanics slightly. The new weapons don't significantly boost a players ability to kill off a large number of opponents. As we've seen so far, they all come with an intentional deficiency of some kind in order to keep the game balanced.

That said, I take issue with how Valve implemented the medic achievements. Some of them are damn near impossible to obtain through regular game play and thus the reason for "achievement servers" that have sprung up to help people grind for them. The pyro acheivements IMO, are actually more acheievable. I hope the planned Heavy achievements are along the lines of the pyro.
