emulators/vm's are always the best sollution. since source for those old id games have been released in the past, there are a bunch of implementations.

and if there aren't any (like for the old commander keen games, iirc), give VDMSound a shot (under nt4/w2k/xp) http://ntvdm.cjb.net/

and some old dos games refuse to run at all under modern os's (eg weird memory manager), so have a look at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/, and if that fails too, use bochs/vmware.

btw, i remember an old feature of doom v1.666 or something. you had to build an ipx network of 3 dos boxes and could play on all three. one screen for 90 leftview, on center and one right. woah!

yeah, thats got to be the most unsympathetic ircchan ever. ill bet its mentioned in the book :D

although, irc is my favourite resource when it comes to linux questions/problems that need a fast answer/solution.

and for those who dont know yet, there is a bunch of shitloads of geek channels on the freenode ircnet (fka openprojects), just /list 'em

  5. Re:Bittorrent on Broken Saints Finale Available · · Score: 1

while looking at that site i saw this:

"The Matrix Reloaded Trailer [97.35MiB] Laid to rest with 9380 transfers (1018.31GiB)"

a quicktime file hosted on aol's server, and we used p2p software to distribute it. thats 1tb less of traffic. on aol. we could have slashdotted aol. sometimes we are just too smart. damnit!

and dont you dare and provide a revolutions trailer torrent!

btw: thats still the old torrent without the finale if im not mistaken. any package to update that previous broken saints download?

  6. reset on Tulip to Relaunch C64 · · Score: 5, Funny

back in those days you had to buy a reset button as expansion for about 2. it was plugged in the back slot of the c64.
i remember collecting all these POKE commands you had to enter for some sort of cheat after a soft reset and getting back into the game with a SYS command.

and still, if im playing games on my box im using emulators. c64 was, is and will be my favourite home computer. those times just rocked!

and yeah, i still got the holer for the 5.25" disks so you could use them from both sides.

buying reset buttons and using holers on floppy disks, heh nostalgia... who is with me?
