Here is part of the problem- the patent office actually makes money for the government. Now, do you think they really want to shut down that revenue stream?
I forget the name of the short story and author, but I read once a story where when you go to a concert some kind of mind effect was enacted so you could not recall the experience, in the name of copyright.
"Which is why there's a niche software industry in Software Asset Management."
Which, if you think about it, is pretty damn sad. You now have to prove that you are innocent rather than "them" proving you guilty. I wonder if Antarctica needs someone to polish the curling lanes.....
Well, lots of states have the death penalty for murder, yet it doesn't stop that.
In some cases, possible punishment does nothing to deter people.
While I understand your plight as a software writer, I really can't see a good reason for enacting 3rd strike rules and such for piracy. Jail is a very harsh place. Levy a monster fine against the person- that'll probably work better than the specter of jail- most people have no idea how bad jail can be, but they can understand $5000 losses.
I think the word you want is "evolutionary". Refining things like how many weapons you can carry (say Resident Evil with it's 6 item inventory bag) is not revolutionary. Don't know about the HP charging, so this may be revolutionary. Changing aspects of a genre is not revolutionary, normally. If the new aspect completely reworks how you approach and play the game, then yes, but for the most part the improvement just evolve how the genre works.
Until cell phone service is line powered like land lines, I'm not cutting the land line for time when the power goes out. Call me silly and old fashioned, but if the power goes out there may be a darn good reason for me to call 911.
Did you catch the PETA release a few weeks ago saying we should kill our family dogs and cats because it's cruel to keep them n "slavery"? Or something like that, I forget exactly because I blew it off do to its total wackiness, but you reminded me of it.
Backing away slowly will soon turn into full fledged running, methinks.
I think the word "conscience" was not the word he was looking for. Perhaps "stupid" or "idiotic". I guess the closest you can get to conscience is "not illegally screwing someone over".
But what do these jokers think they are doing taking on Microsoft AND Apple?! The others guys can provide clerk support. They'll probably just bankrupt themselves.
Yes, it does get better. I'm not sure if it's the 2nd or 3rd season when they get the ship Defiant, so they can go other places. They get to wander around, get into fights, later on there a few wars...
I watched it from season 2 to 6 I think. The last one got a little high handed.
but how about just damping a big towel and dumping it over the crash site right away? Contains vapors to rug and towel. If you want, put plastic over it, cut it all out, then call whoever can take mercury contaminants.
And besides, everyone says that mercury is a heavy metal, so won't it just work it's way down to the Earth's core in a bit?:)
When I got my new MacBook Pro, my wife hated the track pad (never used on before) so much she kept begging me to get a mouse. I kept "forgetting" to do it, and after about 2 weeks I pulled out an out USB mouse and said "Got one". She said "Don't bother, I got it now".
NBC 10 in Philadelphia still does investigative journalism. A few months ago a returned military vet was being told that his house was being sold to a developed for a new casino from a local community organization. He supposedly had an agreement, but they denied it. NBC 10 did a story on it, and with a bunch of people responding, got the org to re-think their decision.
I looked for the story on NBC10.com, but had trouble finding it.
The problem is that most judges probably have clerks who screen their email for them.
Clerk: we have a lot of spam! Judge: take care of it.
And generally, judges tend to be older, so they may or may not even have personal email to even understand the problem. And quite probably not even tech literate enough to know the costs/time/problems involved with trying to filter/eliminate spam.

We're getting there....
"The only good politician is tortured and dead."
Though not quite that extreme, read my sig.

Just my buck 50.

Bungie's Marathon series with new hardware, anyone?

Disclaimer- I have not played Halo a lot.
And another thing- many business offices I've been in have crap reception inside their buildings.

"Judge: Bailiff, please escort the plaintiffs out. If you accidentally beat them with your nightstick, I'll understand."
God, that would make the perfect ending to a "Law and Order" show!
Dum dum!

This is worse than Rambus.

Every sneeze while having a nose bleed in a car? I did, and it surely splattered nicely. Fun cleaning blood out of all those niches on the dash.
(And yes, my wife is still alive)

Sorry for the ignorance, but is there any cable TV over there?
"Who find their skills degraded from six years of doing minimum wage jobs for a living. "
I resemble that. That's why I'm going back to school for my masters. Yea, school loans again.
This is like the Titanic on a 15 year sinking trip.....
wow- that is so seriously messed up.
I totally agree with you! People should have to write a check for taxes every month. Then they would realize how much money is being sucked off them.
