Well as embedded developer I value gcc for it's cross-compile capabilities, even 2 stage is impossible here:o)
However for building the crosscompiler we need to build a native compieler of that version also. I've automated the more or less compilicated build steps to get a crosscompiler in a script, and for that I want to run it as fast as possible. Where steps 2 and 3 for the native compiler are really only nerving. On an Athlon 700 it takes 1-2 hours eitherway to get the crosscompiler (glibc needs to be compiled also by an intermediate cross compiler). Here more paranoia only takes time (and thus money). My opinion, those who want paranoia shall enable it.
In no case will a Java or C# application run faster than a !_well_! written C application.
(The development of the application may be cheaper in java, or more cross-platform compability is given, or it will sooner get in a stable state, all aceptable arguments, but speed...)
Sorry but "normal" builds of gcc like configure-make-make install only perform step 1 and 2. To perform step 3 as well you have to call a special make target for this actually paranoidly step, but do not remember of hand which.
I recently bought banana seeds. Does this mean the plant I will get will not grow eatable bananas? (well it will take 2 decades anyway or so, if it survives that long). Or does this work like apples, or oranges, where a base tree is created by seet, and then branches of the target sort is cropped on it (you get a genetically different branch on a tree)? But I don't think this will work on a palme, will it?
SMSes are cool things, i.e. especially for girls:o) Show her that you think of her, but don't want to tel. her, because most likely she will not have time just in the moment. Send her a SMS.
They work reliable too, never heard of one lost. Maybe at extreme rush times like christmas or new year it can take several hours, but lost one? Never noticed.
Well first body builders will perfom very badly on a bycicle, and the profesionals bodybuilders will even avoid this kind of long term training. While it's healthy and good, long term endurance will not do well on muscle definition.
Second you should not get at your limit in a training condition, you can do this in competition, but it will not offer optimal training. Optimal traing you stop at 60-80% of your limit, your body needs a push to improve its capacity, however going over your limit does not good at this. Imagine your not getting stronger or get more capacity while training, no of course you reduce during it, after 2 hours training you can't just add another two with the same strain. However after the training the body compensates the lost power, and a bit it will over-compensate, thats how you train. Now if you went to far or leave a too short pause before the next training it can not do proper over-compensating, so you do not have a training effect.
Games good as long as they keep you amused while doing a rather montanous task. Or "travel" in groups as through peer pressure you will do far more than under normal conditions (spin-biking) (but also here stay in limits).
I now in fitness centers people often don't reach their 80%, it's just the lazyness we are all victim of.
But just a ambitious normal race will do absolut no good training in my opinion.
As far I know the liquid rocket booster uses oxygen and hydrogen to combust, because it has the highest energy rate. This result only into only water as combustion gas! Can it be any cleaner? People are again and again see a rocket take of and say all this pollution, but all that comes out of the liquid booster is water vapour.
However what I guess they are talking about are the solid boosters that currently are mountes on the side of the rocket (i.e. Space Shuttle and Ariane 5) there might be improvement, but honestly the number of rockets going up to the sky really has not yet a significant influence on the environment, where i.e. jet planes do have. (remember the ~2 local climate change at night during the total flight stop after september 11th?)
Well when training in a gym/health spa you should train in your optimal range, with a proper heart frequency etc. depending on your training target. However a race condition is generaly not a good training.
Well everthing that happened before the colonoziation of america where the not yet americans living in europe;o)
Kyoto on later stage only the US did refuse. However I thing they are considering a change. Maybe future of planet is a bit worth after all (especially for the netherlands that are the first to drink. but then manhatten is next;o)
"If it wasn't for the evil US, I bet everyone would be speaking German right now."
Well we're all now have to speak english, what does tell us that?;o)
Well I'm not talking about a normal sonar, it was a an experiment super power soner to scan _all_ of the atlantic.
Not normal nukes, everybody has them, it was the development of this earth-screw-nukes to destroy bunkers, it blantly violated the global peace treacement of not developing new kinds of nuclear weapons, and makes use of them more easy as they do not harm environment directly. Result we are closer to a nuclear war then before. Bravo.
The benefit of the USA is that it was colonozied nearly instantly, and it has a huge aera of homogen cultural style that helped building up. Look europe in total is nearly same size. But we have far more cultural diversity, it is better and worser the same time. We speak more than a dozend languages, had different currencies just before a short time, etc. with the EU things will change better as the comercial areas will unite. Things are mostly on first sight more expensive since we we have different state structure. Look in example when an european is sick and needs medical treatment we don't have to pay for this (well most parts we don't have to pay) (well most parts for convential medicine we don't have to pay) (well... );o) or unemployment, etc. We can go to the university with paying far for that. (currently here it are 500 $ for 5 months). Well I love the new euro-dollar exchange rate, I don't have to calculate a lot;o)
-- Debugging using printf's and #if's is poor programming practice but the tool most programmers use.
Why can you say is it poor programming practice? Any proofs on that, or just a postultate. It's experience after the years we learned how to find a bug quickest, most expirienced programmers tried both ways, using a debugger, using printfs, using debug() macros etc. We will use the ones we find out which work fastest, and honestly most times I find bugs in highlevel applications the fasted way using printf's. Why? First using a debugger can significantly change the behaviour of a program, not all programs can be stepped, when in example the application talks to hardware, talks network protocols, uses GUIs, you get timeouts other timing behaviour, or often when the bug results out of reading undefined memory, it's often different in a debugger environemnt. The bug just isn't there then. Second reason is printf you get on stdout very quick an overview whats happening where, while in a debugger you have to step into evey point. Honestly there are error that can be found quicker with and ones that can be fount quicker without a debugger. Experience should tell you when to use which.
No it is because we're not that only country in that does alone does not join the global reunion in reducing carbon dioxid emissions, and thus fucks all our children future by destroying earth environment for the sake to get everything more cheaper just for us.
Or the only country that violates world wide peace agreement by developing new kinds of nuclear weapons, we're not that country that kills dozends of wales by it's military super sonic monitoring of the oceans. We did not get our land by mass killing almost all the native inhabitants of the country that lived there before we came. We did not own our wealth by enslaving native africans and bring them into our country letting them work for no money. We're not that country that still is babaric as it kills it's own people! (death penality)
i mean in europe this is dealt far more easily with. It's just illegal to call anybody first hand to sell him something (wihtout having business with him). It does not matter if he is on a list or not. In germany/austria this law is called "unlauterer wettbewerb", the only smaller problem is that it takes a competitor of the caller to sue a violator, you personally can't, as only the competitor takes economical damadge if someone sells it's product in such illegal way.

Thats the bullshit FUD microsoft is publishing, the thing they try to downplay or to disguise is that on unix systems there are _standards_ where they aren't they should be. Standard interfaces like Posix, or X11 and so on. Applications use that interface will work, no matter if the OS has been tailored on or not. As long it provides the standard interface it does work. On linux almost every package with configure-make-make install will work on almost any distro, all you need is to fullfill the requirments.
What ms is trying to do is to - what ever we do is defined as standard, So thats the benefit for the costumer? A single company that does create and modify standards as it wishes?

I don't remember having duplicates is anything. Yes, I want to see an important event from different views, different focuses as events propergate.
Your wrong. The wright bothers designed their wings by looking _closly_ on how the wings of birds were shaped, and so discovered the classical wing form, without understand much of aerodynamics. You know the flat downside and curved upside, so still the birds teached us how to fly!
