I have GIMP 2.0 installed. While it's "prettier" than the 1.x line, it still suffers from the 4,000 windows that don't raise and lower as a group. If I'm editing an image, I'll probably have 5 windows open, just from GIMP. If I Alt-Tab to my browser, or Word, or anything, I then have to bring each GIMP window back to the fore by hand. That sucks. I wished for years for a way to raise and lower the whole group, but I've not seen a way to do it.
Black art? I think not. I wrote quite a bit of Win3.1 code without donning any special hats. If you want something that is really voodoo, try doing some Motif programming. The difference is night and day. I will admit that my Motif programming is not as deep as Windows, but I have done it. And I didn't like it.
ice from the north pole displaces just as much water when it's ice as when it's water - because it's floating, melting that shouldn't change the level.
BINGO! You are correct. But acknowledging this fact would mess up a perfectly dandy argument in favor of the Kyoto protocol. That's why it tends to get conveniently overlooked...
Cincom Smalltalk, which is the descendant of VisualWorks, still uses MVC. Dolphin, an excellent commercial ST for Windows, uses a modified version of MVC called MVP - Model View Presenter. Squeak is, to my knowledge, the only ST that has really deviated from MVC in a meaningful way. And it certainly isn't commercial.

I loved Coraline, but I can't imagine reading that when I was eight. "Creepy as hell" doesn't really describe the case of the screaming meemies I got from reading it when I was 32...
I actually thought RotK was the absolute worst of the three. FotR was not too bad, TTT was awful, and RotK was bloody rotten. Tolkien must have done several laps around his grave at that one.
I love this movie, but I would have preferred that scene not be included. I think the same "his mind is elsewhere" could have been done by showing him standing in front of the strip club and not wanting to go in, perhaps... The "music" that is playing in the strip club is also a bit low-brow...
Hmmm... Not really. Unless you consider the government prohibiting YOU from buying a political ad within 60 days of an election as "leveling the playing field." With this restriction in place, only ABCCBSCNNETC will be allowed to influence elections. Now isn't that lovely?
I used to use that same soundbite for email notification. The only problem was my cubemate neighbors would get annoyed the 200th time they heard it each day...
Not only good for teaching teens to program, but much younger as well. My five year old son has 'written' his first program using the RCS builder-tool that ships with the Mindstorms kit. He is just learning to read, but the fact that most of the programming bricks have an icon on them indicating what they do, he's able to get what he wants. He's learned by association what the non-icon-bearing bricks are and can write and run his programs with very little assistance from me. I was heartbroken when I read the original PR that sounded like they were killing it (especially since I just bought mine a week ago). I've very happy it's not going away.
Now I can write more NQC code to control my RoverBot...:-)
I have always thought that Wierd Al was some sort of twisted genuis, and this just reinforces that thought. I laughed so hard watching that video that it hurt. The "may be Vader someday later" line is classic.

I've always liked cowboy (it's the romance of old Western pictures...), but could never picture myself referring to myself as a cowboy. Just like while I do feel I have many hackish qualities, I would never refer to myself as a hacker. Ah well, maybe I'll just have to go back to calling myself Ginger.
Geez, discover a fucking sense of humor, you morose liberal douchebag.
You should feel so very proud of your ability to express an entire paragraph of text without coming anywhere near making a point.
Unless I'm mistaken, that entire paragraph was a direct quote from David Brent from The Office...
and the "Star Wars" program was a good idea.
The SDI was and is a good idea.
They forgot to realize that they're dealing with people who think vi is intuitive and makes sense
Hey pal, them's fighting words...

No, I will not concede a point when that "point" is bogus. And attacking the leader of your own country doesn't win you any points.
Bush Jr. who are in power because they've got freinds and family entrenched in high places
Ah yes, the tired old "selected, not elected" line of BS. Can't you people come up with anything better?
That's a joke, right?
Win 3.1 programming was a black art

Damn... I sure did. I was reading the "he" in the story as being Dr. Kay... OK. I get it now. Thanks for pointing our my error... :-)

Oh. Sorry. I didn't realize Dr. Kay was involved with Oberon. I thought that was just Niklaus Wirth.
Unless I'm missing something, this sounds apocryphal to me. To wit:
ST does support single inheritance.
ST does support polymorphism.
ST mandates encapsulation.
Sounds pretty OO to me.

It was the worst adaption of the three.

Actually, if we must be correct, it's "What's He Building?" Notice there's no "in there" in there....
