How much do you want to bet that the download speeds that we all have been enjoying for free will suffer greatly as Ximian tries to nudge people in the direction of giving them money regularly.
Oh well, it's GPL'ed code, right? There are always mirrors.
Ever heard of Blockbuster? Less than $5 for 5 nights with a game. If you can't afford that, then it's highly unlikely you can afford the game to begin with, and so don't spout bullshit when you know that the reason you pirate games is so that you don't have to pay $40 for them.
Blockbuster, eh? Yeah, I've looked to rent many games, and you know what? They aren't there.
Shenmue 2 for dreamcast is a perfect example. Japan got their dreamcast release, and even Europe saw shenmue 2 for dreamcast. I would pay 40 bucks for it, but damned if I can find a place that will take my money.
So I'm getting a pirated copy. Sure, it might be illegal, but for fucks sake, how can it be wrong to get it for free when they don't give me the opportunity to purchase it?
And to answer those who might say "you don't need to play it in the first place", I'll have you know that I played shenmue 1 for months only to have it end on a cliffhanger, which is picked up in the sequel. Sega wants us US consumers to buy a whole new console (Xbox) if we want to see how the story finishes, while the rest of the world gets to play it on the intended hardware (dreamcast).
you're right. all those questions above are just fake questions. the only question that is real is whether or not someone could get a worm back to the FBI. good job in pointing out all the fake questions. bravo. what would we do without you.
it was a 'man show' sketch, silly. The magazine subscriptions in the sketch were porno mags, and the company cleaned up things like penis pumps and bongs before your parents got there.
Cheap, built well, nice LCD screen, long battery life (thanks to the G3 processor), built in 10/100 networking with 802.11b wireless capable, runs linux
RAID isn't a unix only thing, in case you didn't know. Furthermore, a SAMBA/NFS box would almost certainly be serving windows clients. So, I would hope that an MCSE would be able to work on such things.
You should use the word idiot more carefully in the future.
Sorry for replying twice, but since you talk about big thick obvious lines, here's one for you:
Paying for a commodity item
--(big thick obvious line here)--
Taking a commodity item without payment
Is that obvious enough for you? "but the mp3 is still on the other person's hard drive" bullshit is just a smokescreen.
If someone offers free music and you take it, great. Everyone's happy. On the other hand, if someone wants to sell their music, and you aquire it without paying the artist, then you sir are a PARASITE. It's pretty straightforward, really.
I am into music because it fulfills me, but many of my fellow musicians like to get paid for what they do. When people rip them off, it makes me angry. Just because technology enables you to free stuff doesn't mean you have a right to it.
I agree that not all musicians cut tracks for the purpose of selling it. I am one of those musicians.
However, musicians who sign record contracts do so to make money and earn a living. Otherwise they wouldn't bother signing their life away. If you choose to get the mp3 and not buy the album, you are engaging in a shitty practice. The artist is selling, but you take it without paying.
Yes, the artists still have their songs, but they don't have the money, which is the whole point of them releasing the album in the first place. Call it what you will, but it's fucked up regardless.
Hey man, I'm a musician myself. I play classical guitar, and make home recordings. The thing is, I also have a full time job, as I suspect you do too.
Artists who sign record contracts do so with the intent of making money. That is their full time job. Otherwise they'd be like you and me. If I chose to sign a record contract I would hope that people pay for my recordings as opposed to just getting them for free.
I suggest you actually create something before you talk about stealing.
musicians cut tracks and make albums for the purposes of selling said albums. If they intended for people to spread things as widely as possible, they would give away things for free.
yes, digital copies aren't stolen in the traditional sense, but you are getting something for free that was intended to be sold. it's a pretty fine line, but don't get confused about what side you are on.
Xfree86 4.0.2 has already been ported to darwin, and I'm sure that NVidia would release drivers for all platforms that their cards run on. There are already binary drivers for x86 and I'm sure that once geforce cards start shipping in macs there will be one for that platform as well.
I worked as a tech in my college dorm a few years back, and our school recommended 3com cards to all the people wanting to get connected to our residential network. I think this had something to do with the fact that the only place selling 3com cards within 10 miles of the campus was the campus bookstore for a high price of 60-120 bucks for a 10baseT card (not even 10/100)
Anyway, a girl in my dorm buys one of these PCI cards at the recommendation of my school. She calls me over to install it, and what do you know? Her computer has a flexAT case. Yes she had 3 pci slots, but the case was too short to fit a PCI card!
I called up gateway's tech support and they said that they didn't even know of any PCI cards that would fit in the case. Worthless piece of shit.
anyway, USB ethernet was all she could get. It's a shame that she opened the box and couldn't get her 60 bucks back for the 3com card....

this is true. But to be honest, my eyes would have a hard time with anything above 800x600 at 15" or less. I'm blind though so YMMV:)
The 10/100 ethernet made up for it though. I would have had to add another 100-200 dollars to the price, then dealt with the flaky dongles on the PC side if I added an ethernet card to a low end PC laptop.

First of all, Apple will never release OS X for intel. Darwin is as close as you are going to get. This has been discussed to death already. If you want candy colored buttons, go to themes.org and grab an Aqua clone.
However, I feel I must chime in when all these people are saying that no x86 user will migrate to OS X. I have been a PC user (first windows, then linux) for a number of years. I recently bought an iBook to run Debian on because the hardware is nice and cheap (try finding an x86 laptop with integrated 10/100 ethernet, firewire, 14" display and 128 MB Ram for the price of my iBook. I sure as hell didn't when I was in the market. The G3 is also fast, with low power consumption. that also means my battery lasts forever)
So price and performance won me over to PPC, but why would I want to switch to OS X?
full hardware support some of my linux drivers are shoddy hacks, at best. I'm not trolling here, the author of the iBook sound driver says so himself
slick interface. Say what you will about pretty colored buttons, the fact is that the GUI is what Apple is known for. I've had some pretty X themes, but the usuability has never really been there. Oh yeah, and I still get to run bash in a terminal window thanks to the BSD layer.
butt load of apps If I switch to OS X, I get top notch video editing software at no extra cost, plus the ability to run all the legacy Mac Apps, plus a decent web browser, plus (did I mention the BSD layer? I knew I did.) all the UNIX software I already love. There are already X servers available so (get this) I get to choose between Photoshop and the Gimp, and I have network transparency.
Sounds like a winner to me. Give me a reason not to switch to OS X.
Judging by the kind of Apple stories run around here, I can tell this will be modded down rather quick. Whatever. I just can't troll as good as Taco

yes, linux runs on the ibook. It has ever since the first revision of the hardware in 1999

Seriously, man. This page look like it came out of my ass on a bad day. Teal green slashdot logo, offset by BROWN and BEIGE!
Goddamn, it's seriously the ugliest thing I've seen all week. (I haven't followed a goatse.cx link in a while)
Bjork has been selling millions for at least 5 years. She doesn't need gnutella.
Did you just recommend emacs because it isn't bloated and doesn't try to do everything?
Dear god...
What exactly does Bin Laden or McVeigh have to do with Comdex? Please stop with the rhetorical bullshit.
I don't see what your point is..

also in INFOworld. god I hate getting that magazine. stupid free subscription offers I shouldn't have sent in.
ever hear of land lines? You know, normal phones still exist. Or does everyone just use cell phones where you come from...now that's scary.
