  3. What about Fred? on George Mason University Speech Accent Archive · · Score: 1

So, I submitted Fred, from Cupertino, CA spoken via Apple's OS X Core Audio, recorded by Ambrosia Software's WireTap. Fred, as you may, know is also the voice of Stephan Hawking and has done numerous cameo appearances on TV and film. I'm merely questioning what makes a voice "human."

  4. Try this... on Getting Sony TRV-22 Cams Working w/ G5s? · · Score: 1

You're not really clear on what you want to do but anyway, if you are trying to webcam...streaming video, etc., try bensoftware's BTV (BTV Carbon Pro) and if you are having a USB driver issue try i/oExpert's driver. You can get more info on VersionTracker. If you're going DV w/ Firewire and having problems you best just check the cable. There should be no problem capturing video via Firewire into iMovie. Keep in mind inherent cable length restrictions for FW.

You might also want to try Quicktime Broadcaster if you want to transmit a manual unicast. That's 1, a free app and 2, should work with either the i/oExpert USB driver or "out of the box" with Firewire.

  16. RIAA is misdirected on Has the RIAA Wormed 95% of P2P Networks? · · Score: 1

I would like to see some numbers and some "social statistics" using historical data on how much p2p or other mp3 trading compares to previous methods of trading music or anything else which is recordable. The thing is it is only more visible now. There also needs to be a greater understanding of how many people "steal" media who would never buy it anyway and how many people buy media because they have discovered something they like through trading and want quality production--perhaps have even become inspired to support the artist. I have bought more CDs in the past 6 months than I had bought in the last 6 years. It's not so different than it ever was. The RIAA tactics being discussed here whether real or not is wasted time, energy, money and resources. If it is real, someone will defeat it and it creates its own wave of people, previously lacking involvement, jumping on a bandwagon of protest which incorporates the propagation of the problem as the RIAA sees it, in an exercise of anti-corporate, anti-big brother sentiment.

  21. Corel and the rest on Corel Cuts 220 Jobs to Save $12M · · Score: 2, Insightful

The biggest problem I see with the major software companies is that the majority of the high paid MBA types in those organizations don't have any working knowledge of the products they make. I deal with these companies day in and day out and have for more years than I care to divulge. Corel has some good product but if the executives don't have a solid grasp on how to use the software, professionally, how can they have any vision to foster the direction of the software into professional environments? What follows from the executive level is a trickle effect and it typically boils down to the person(s) who has the greatest working knowledge of any given application, or suite of applications, the person(s) who have the greatest potential for vision in the developemnt of those applications, they have the least amount of say in the matter. Adobe is the same as well as those other guys.
