I'm curious why those involved with budgeting never questioned why they suddenly had an extra $8 million to play with. Someone more in touch with government and their community should have wondered what was going on.
Agreed, I do financial reporting for very large engineering and construction projects, I've learned not to jump to be the hero that just uncovered a huge windfall for a project, 999 times out of 1000 it's an error somewhere.
Whoever was supposed to be checking for errors just likely wanted to be a hero and was obviously new. You bet your ass he won't do it again (at this job if he's not canned nor elsewhere if he was).
From the above link to confirm what I recall in a college Business Law course, a contract such as this EULA would require three elements; (1) Competent Parties, (2) Consideration and (3) Mutual Assent or Meeting of the Minds.
So, for item (1), most of us technically inclined individuals would believe they are not competent since they have written up such an insulting agreement. (2) I'm stretching here, but suppose someone bought me a CD of music, then there would be consideration between the original purchaser and Sony so that's been met, but for (3), there's a snowballs chance in hell that anyone who reads and understands that EULA would agree to it.
For me, I'll just substitute my own reality for theirs should I be interested in any musician they try and push down my throat.
at Reliant stadium. Was told the metal building might be affecting signal, but my PCS phone was working fine. Laggy as hell and even the top speed wasn't worth a damn.
I'd still take it if the company would get me one, but until then Verizon can keep it and keep trying to improve it.
The same thing is happening with the bandit signs you see along the roads in the public rights-of-way. Laws originally were enacted to go after the person placing the signs and since these are usually lower income/education folks, they line up for this type of work and the signs never stop.
Now many states are starting to go after big-name homebuilders, one homebuilder in Florida was recently fined $49,000 for over a hundred signs.
I strongly suggest you get out and actually meat real people before you pile them all in the same bucket marked "useless"
Actually real meat people are my favorite types of people.
Why does your fiancee keep putting her masters degree on the application if it's losing her potential jobs? Remember, insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Try something different!
Well, there's the rub, if you're doing nothing wrong, then there's no need to log your activities, but if you are into criminal activities, this makes life easier for law enforcement. Should we go back to the days when people were stopped and held for looking suspicious?
My favorite is the Beavis & Butthead episode where the principal thumbed through the yearbook saying "That kid looks like a criminal". Sure would make life easier huh?
that isn't a puppet with the industry lobbyists hands jammed up his ass. Imagine what a world we'd be in if politicians used common sense and did what's right?
Just use this topic for any personal emails. Me, I don't give a damn if they read email that I type on their computers, if it's that secret, I'll use my lunch hour or wait till I get home to tend to these matters.
I pull bandit signs from public rights of way by the hundreds on a weekly basis. I've asked the question to the code enforcement if we're destroying evidence that could be used against these spammers. A resounding no is the answer, why? They'll post more signs, by the hundreds and thousands and the laws are not setup to deal with this issue, much like phishing sites.
Can I ask why they don't use pig latin? I'd rather eat my own head than translate everything from pig latin just to crack into someone's system. See what I mean? Maybe it's Friday and I'm the only one seeing the humor...
I wouldn't dare say the end users should reinstall their OS, but having them install a patch now and then might make them understand how their computers work. Maybe for some it's hopeless, but I'd much rather update my machine than wait for IT to shut me down for hours while they update things.
My boss keeps getting new laptops, but can't understand how to turn off pop-up notifications about his wireless card and every night he locks his laptop in a file cabinet in the office, while I'm on a PIII with windows98. It's a strange world out here.
I'm not that much of a techie anymore, especially on the latest *nix, but couldn't you just deny internet access to configurations that aren't up to date with the latest "approved" configuration. This way you could force folks to install the updates themselves and maybe *gasp* take responsibility for their actions and learn a little about computers.
Fix their computer once, you'll be fixing it for life. Teach them to fix it themselves and they'll either quit using computers or never talk to you again.
Do these gov't agencies need websites? Is there a way to keep non-us addresses from visiting these websites?
I run a website for my HOA for free, and I'd be plenty happy to keep outsiders from visiting it, it's for the people that live there, not spammers, hackers or anyone else. With 900+ houses, I can't make everyone log-in, so I just tell the robots.txt to keep search engines out.
I live in Houston and haven't signed up for vonage yet, and this will keep the wife from wanting to go this route. I thought that even if you didn't have phone service, you could dial 911. It works this way for wireless...
I don't think I could ask this to the tools working Best Buy and keep a straight face while they figure out how to explain. Might have to enlist the help of my folks.
I believe this will happen to an extent. If the press hypes a format war, most consumers will lay off purchasing dvds until the war subsides. I'll certainly wait just to ensure whatever format I pick will be around for awhile. I still watch movies on VHS at least once a month! (listens for movie execs to shudder)
If I'm going to recommend this guy (a college graduate), he better be able to spell, let alone spell engineering. AC weenies like you just hurt industry by not forcing people to be responsible. It's just hitting frigging F-7 people!
A friend sent me their nephew's resume and asked me to help him get his start in the field. I emailed and asked him to update his resume, deleting anything not valid to the field or non-productive and to have someone else proofread and use spellcheck!
A day later the resume arrived with the field in question misspelled twice. I suggested he look for work where attention to detail isn't as important.

This NY AG guy seems alright to me.

Anyone who double-clicks a 5KB file named MS_Longhorn.exe deserves what they're gonna get. Same with newd_britany.exe and so on.
When I was a mean kid, I fed VCRs remotes and about anything else they'd take while walking through walmart.
Now my 1 & 2 year olds did the same until I moved it to my eye level.

My credit sucks, so if anyone is dumb enough to steal mine, they'll end up wasting their time.

What about offshoring and competing on a global scale with companies overseas that pirate the same apps we pay for? We need a level playing field.

therefore it will win out.
