Agreed, there is a lot for the average home user for Mac OS X. But when it comes to software most companies require there is very little available for OS X. Some things missing:
    • Document management systems with Office integration such as Documentum, Windows Sharepoint Services etc.
    • ERP systems. A previous poster mentioned that some of them have web interfaces. These, however, tend to rely heavily on Active X controls and hence won't work in any OS X browser.
    • CRM systems, Siebel, Amdocs, etc.
    • Business analytics software.

The problem is that a lot of web based applications depend on the Rich Text Editor control included with MSIE. If you look at professional CMS-applications many of them use this editor field to format content areas and this makes life a lot easier for content producers.

If Mozilla had a similar editor field that could be embedded I believe that a lot of CMS manufacturers could make cross-browser CMS-software. This could eventually lead to an easier corporate switch from IE to Mozilla.

Ah, but this whole discussion is about switching from one computing platform (A. Windows on Intel) to another (B. OS X on Apple). Being able to switch computing platform means that they can be considered to compete in the same market.

Microsoft has a near monopoly on one part of computing system A. The hardware part of A has fierce competition with many suppliers of even parts of the hardware. This has created a lot of benefits for consumers with lower prices and increased price/performance ratio.

For computing system B Apple has a solid monopoly on the hardware (OS X does not run on anything else) and close to a monopoly on the OS (you can buy an Apple computer and run Linux on it but I would guess that it can be difficult to develop drivers for certain parts of the hardware as it would be of little interest for Apple to disclose specifications).

The problem is that in most countries outside the US, governmens make sure that citizens are protected from lies as much as possible.
