I think it's pretty obvious that "Our Consumers" is meant to mean in the consumers in thier jurisdiction. Take off your tinfoil hat.
Iwouldn't call the distinction trivial. Voters are not consumers, how can you consume democracy ? (you either vote or you don't, it's binary, you can't load up on lots of democracy).
Doesn't orrin hatch had links with media and music companies ?. Maybe he is a little too close if he is throwing the word consumer around when trying to persuade people to back legislation.
Marty Lafferty, chief executive of the Distributed Computing Industry Association, another peer-to-peer group, said he has seen what appeared to be a draft of the current letter and that it contained substantial mischaracterizations of the technology and the file-swapping networks.
I don't think BT is company anyway but surely they can see that p2p apps do have some legitimate uses ?.
Considering that HD-DVD is just a higher bitrate mpeg codec to make use of the increased space then it may be well be possible to play HD-DVD in software. I would of thought that the ps3 would have more than enough power.
For example, I've got an EPOX motherboard ( can't remember which one ) and an Athlon 2100XP. It's got a 266MHz FSB ( from memory - I may be wrong ).
Weird I have a 2100 and epox MB, wouldn't be the 8rda+ would it ?
Anyway you are absolutely right, most upgrades are short term temporary solutions, eventually you have the bite the bullet and upgrade teh whole MB, CPU and RAM combo.
Plus if you are a gamer, you really should wait till next year before spending any money, with PCI Express just around the corner anything you buy now will be obsolete in 3 months.
But what if property taxes applied only after the twenty year (or however long you think it should be) period ?. This is the issue, no one wants to prevent you from copyrighting something when it's new (and potentially most valuable).
I think this is a reasonable solution, although with the artists such as the beatles still being popular 40 years later you could see a situation where the royalties exceed the tax for a long time, maybe such work would never become public domain (bad thing ?).
Now to what is wrong with it: It runs out of power after 5 days. For the last 36 hours or so of those 5 days, if you actually want to telephone with it then it powers down. You can power it back up again and send messages, take photos, whatever, just phoning takes too much power. This thing is supposed to be a telephone. What use is a shrinking violet phone which hides whenever someone calls it?
It's a weird thing but despite all the gizmos that come with our phones these days, making and receiving calls are still the most power hungry things you do. It's always been this way but now with all the camera's, bluetooth, etc. competing for power we notice it more. Apparently the closer you are to a cell base station the less power your phone uses.
Why? Why not just give one release date? Or approximate release date where the product will be shipped to as mnay stores as possible? Why this?
I think it was the Unreal engine (the first generation of it). It may have switched from q2 to unreal, I can't remember. It is ridiculous though, i remember over five years ago reading a preview in a magazine that covered many pages and had tons of screenshots.
Can you imagine if this game does actually get released ?, either no one will believe it or no one will notice cause everyone will have forgotten about it.
Actually, it doesn't strike me as a particularly grandiose goal -- a 2/3 increase in worldwide computers over the next six years, and more less hanging on to their market share? Not hitting that seems like it would be bigger news.
When your market share is 96% it is difficult to be too optimistic about growth.
Please reread what I wrote.
Hmm, not sure what you mean, IMHO hanging on to a 96% market share while the number of computers increases by 2/3 is a fairly grandiose goal, Microsoft certianly has more serious competition now than they have ever had before.

What the hell do you want? Me to mail you the dead PS2s? How is factual accounts of dead machines which back up the the original poster qualify as ancedotal?
Your perfectly justified in saying that you and your friends have had bad experiences, however you made the assertion that all early ps2's failed almost straight away. If this was true you would expect it to be documented somewhere. I think you and your friends have been unlucky, while early hardware is more fault prone if the ps2 was as severely defective as you suggest it wouldn't have gone on to sell 20 million plus.
Well, I know 3 people with PS2s that ended up not working, and it has nothing to do with modding. It has to do with watching dvds on them. The damn lasers in the PS2 are worthless, the new models are better, but the old ones are horrible. First gen PS2 was a huge pile of crap in a lot of ways (it was noisy and the laser sucked to name a few). After a while, these PS2s quit loading DVD based PS2 games and DVD movies. The still seem to load CD based (blue backed games) without issue in most cases, even though the laser is extremely noisy when loading blue games. Enough evidence for you?
Enough evidence ? no, what you have just said is completely anecdotal, got any reliable source for your assertions ?.
Then bitch to the manufacturer! If you had hardware that didn't work in Windows, would you bitch about how shit Windows is, or would you complain to the manufacturer? When did it become Linuxs problem to support every single peice of hardware on the planet with no effort or support from the manufacturers?
If you are saying that it is not fair that the manafacturer doesn't support linux then i agree with you, however that isn't what we are talking about. If it works in windows and doesn't work in linux then your average joe user is gonna stick with windows.
Linux is getting there (I know we have been saying that for the last five years) but it isn't ready for the desktop yet.
Bush: "Vostok represents a clear and present danger to the United States of America. We must wipe out any forign alien bacteria in Vostok because they may be plotting against us! I call for congress to give me thirty billion dollars to fund operation Infinite Justice^2 so we can launch a crusade an wipe out the Weapons of Microbial Destruction in Vostok!"
The Firefox branding effort has paid of big time. Having the best browser doesn't bring in the users, having the best browser with a slick look does.
I wouldn't say its down purely to the look or style, Firefox is feature rich compared to IE (tabbed browsing, extensible, ect). The truth is that the success of firefox is partly due the idiotic decision by microsoft to stop updating IE (at least until their new OS is released).
But it does have style, plus with recent versions it's become very fast, I think most developers would be surprised at just how much users value resposiveness (is that a word ?) in the applications they use.
I completely agree. I can't see a single usage for a flash-based player. They are virtually indistinguishable on price and features (except for the low end) and in almost every case, the HD models have vastly more space.
Excuse me ?, my muvo nx (128 mb) cost me 80, an ipod costs 300.
It's smaller than an iPod and has moving parts, I use it to go jogging (as well as other more traditional uses), I don't want to carry several hundred pounds worth of tech just to listen to music.
Don't get me wrong, the idea of having my entire music collection accessible is appealing, but at the moment my flash based player does the job sufficiently that I don't feel the need to upgrade.

bittorrent ?

Yep I use light, I can't tell you where it is becuase I set it so long ago and never looked back.
Black text on a white background, nothing beats it.
I had a very similar reaction, IANAHS (I am not a Heart Surgeon) but in the article it says...
it only has one moving part, a spinning impeller that drives a continuous stream of blood.
Surely the human body is not designed for a continuous stream of blood ?.
Saying that I am sure that this has all been researched thorougly to get to this stage and my limited medical knowledge probably isn't very useful.
There are tons of little aspects to google that you probably don't know about.
One of my favourites is the define option...
type into google define:whatever and it will come back will a list of defintions, can be very handy sometimes.
Britain = England + Scotland + Wales
Where did Northern Ireland go ?

Shut up idiot, I live in the UK and want my doom 3 goodness as soon as possible.
And then - Duke Nukem Forever will at last be mine!
Are you a betting man ?
This is Doom 3, not Duke Nukem Forever....
"Microsoft certianly has more serious competition now than they have ever had"
Not really. Back when Microsoft was all DOS, Apple had their MacOS and IBM had their thing. This is nothing.
Your are right of course, when I said "serious" I should have said "non traditional". Microsoft really has no idea how to effectively deal with OSS.
Actually, it doesn't strike me as a particularly grandiose goal -- a 2/3 increase in worldwide computers over the next six years, and more less hanging on to their market share? Not hitting that seems like it would be bigger news.

Now watch me make this drive....
It will support almost anything you want (everything on my laptop works!)
Unless you own one of the many wifi cards that have no linux support.

That was a *mistake*? ;-)
I was 11 at the time, and when my dad found out he wasn't very happy...
