How about keeping this aside as a/. poll and have some fresh polls without much delays...I am getting tired of refreshing my browser and finding the same poll:(
I wonder why the nerds who post stories, almost always, assume that the system is gonna be networked? Why can't it be assumed to be run out of a plain old DVD player or something not networked, for a change?
What about people cooling water in earthen pots? It's the same technology, for chrisssake...I use one at home...maybe that guy should share his award with me.

If this doesn't work then grease the palms of the customs officer like we do here in India. The only difference being that the customs folks here expect something even if you are not carrying anything dutiable.
/.ing the bastard is all fine. But aren't you screwing up yourself or your organisation(if you do this from office) in the process, by pumping up your own bandwidth?
Really, I would like to know how this thing that you are proposing, going to screw up the guy? Thanx.
I am from India, as well. But I personally feel that $10 is not such a high premium for an innovation like this, though not much of a functional value. And considering that such big companies(like HP, IBM,etc) don't usually have countries like India in their minds when they bring such innovations in the market, it is still an affordable nift.
Considering that, inspite of cheap 2GB mini harddrives from toshiba, IBM continues to charge a royal $360(or whatever is the high price of it now) for the 1GB Microdrive.
Considering that they have rejected two of my (sole)story contributions, you'd think that they'd find more earthshaking/non-silly stories than I submitted.
I use 22kgs of fossil fuel almost every three weeks to commute to my place of work, here in India. People in developed countries burn lot more. Now, according to their arguement do we stop using our cars?
You can outsource that job to India. We'll even pay you for doing that! You can send in your unsafe cash here: Safe Cash, P O Box 420, Koramangala, Bangalore, India 560029

The "Best Office Weapon" poll was getting rather annoying by not getting updated to a new one. Alas! /. lost out on a good poll idea.
If I can hack in, you get it to watch it earlier...heeeheee

Can't you already do this? Like, using a laser printer to print on paper and stick it to the disc?
The cool factor, here, imho, is that the etching is gonna be on the golden/silver layer behind the CD.
