Being a Democrat or Republican is so 90's. In fact, when it comes to corporate ass kissing, I see very little difference. Either the Democrats are "in charge" and our President can't wait to roll over to the Republicans demands, or the Republicans are and there is one less step in the process loop. I'm tired of all of it.
I want the Pirate Party! They stand for fairness.
I know, it's "throwing away my vote" but in reality our county has Diebold electronic voting machines so what I choose is changed to fit "our owners" wishes anyway.
I want a Nokia N9. I am a Maemo fanboi, not an Android fanboi. I have an N900 and it;s showing it age, I bought an N8 but Nokia is killing of Symbian as well. I just ordered an unlocked Samsung Galaxy II because Nokia is now under the control of the evil empire and won't sell what I want. So, soon to be Android owner, yes, fanboi no.
Are you kidding? Unless you are paid by Apple or a Zombie, can do you really believe and iPhone is any better and a T-Mobile G2 or any high end Android handset?
I think Anonymous said it best. Why get a Doctorate in electrical engineering and a Masters in computer science to get a job that pay $100K per year. One of my friends there who is from India told me he is lucky that his parents paid for his schooling. If he had to obtain loans for all that school, he would be making payments with his Social Security checks. (assuming Social Security even exists then)
Some of this is American kids weighing costs vs benefits, but it is a fact that other cultures will make a greater sacrifice for their kids than the "average" US family.
I don't know the answer. I do know the group I worked with were all brilliant, and abilities are not original DNA dependent.
I work part time as a contract consultant for a giant company. The division I work at requires 2 separate degrees for their second flor elves. One in computer science, the second in either mechanical engineering or electrical engineering. They also require at lest one of those to be a masters or doctorate. They prefer a masters & a doctorate both.
One discipline is no longer enough to get the really, really, good jobs.
The bad new is out of 65 guys and 1 woman in that second floor cave, only 1 guy is caucasian and speaks English as a 1st language.
The VP in charge said it was just sad that American kids didn't want to put in the work and take the time to get the educational requirements of that group.
I just updated my bio. It's been years since I've done that.
Slashdot is full of paid Microsoft shills both posting the company bull shit and modding down anyone who speaks ill of their masters. I have fun pointing these out.
That is why I suggested gas stations. They have access to large capacity 3 phase juice. As far as safety, not an issue. Read the Toshiba info in the parent link.
In any case, 10 minutes is a reasonable time for an electric fill up. It would pay for gas stations to install the electrical switch gear and meters. Obviously, no one would want to spend 4 hours at the "pump".
That is why "fast charging" batteries are so important.
Products have both mass and volume. Otherwise it's a service. Or, do you really think those boxes of insurance on Progressive commercials are really products.
Sorry coppers, you started this. We now live in a world where constitutional protections of privacy are nothing more than symbolic and viewed by school kids on field trips on an old parchment document of the past.
I don't feel sorry for the undercover cops one bit. In Chicago, where I live we have a saying, What goes around, comes around!
Switched Reluctance motors are the future in many industries with automotive being one of the most important and aviation being another. They have the most torque to weight of any motor (including rare earth magnet brushless DC) and more importantly have both enormous starting torque and high speed. This means no transmission is necessary as is now with both AC and DC designs. The element that has been holding them back is processing speed of the drive cpu's and the electronics themselves. Right now there are "notchy" at startup. With faster hardware and more sophisticated software this issue can be overcome. I have seen some experimental "drives" using a TI chip that has both an ARM based CPU and a DSP on the same chip. When the software catches up, many industries that now use current motor designs will be able to use the switched reluctance type motor to tremendous advantage. It's the future. And they don't use magnets.
Right now Hybrid vehicles either use brushless DC or permeant magnet excited AC motors. Both need rare earth magnets and neither are as powerful or efficient for their application as switched reluctance motors which do not use magnets at all. If the electric auto industry was innovative, they would all be using switched reluctance motors and China could eat their rare earth magnets.
My guess is a swamp of patents by Toyota that keep them in the dark ages so they can protect their IP.
Apple = evil
Google = good
Microsoft = evil
Linux = good
There. You can't tell the players without a score card.

I'm done!
1) Yes. They pay these folks $100K to $120K per year.
2) That particular VP has a BS in comp sci and an MS in electrical engineering, and about 25 years in hands on development
Me too. Perhaps just asshole would be accurate.

Do not welcome our AT&T overlord masters.
I like T-Mobile!
I had AT&T and paid dearly to escape their evil clutches. I did not want to go back. Yeah for the DOJ! I hope they win.

The post above was brought to you by Microsoft, which is totally responsible for it's content.

Just strap a couple bottles of Amoxicillin to the Hellfire missile carried by the Predator UAV and call it a day. Patient cured!
Not the case with the Toshiba SCIB batteries. I have seen it.

Dear Anonymous, please read -> http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_size_is_the_gas_tank_in_a_Ford_Excursion - before you type nonsense.
If these cars used Toshiba's SCIB batteries -> http://www.toshiba.com/ind/product_display.jsp?id1=821 - then they could go from dead to full charge in 10 minutes.
That would make electric charging stations at gas stations feasible.
It takes 10 minutes to fill an SUV with gas.
Does any one else wonder why all these CEO's have funny last names?

Is Apple becoming Microsoft?

Actually, I like my Samsung Chromebook. Open, use, close. It just works. (Oops, maybe I can't say that.)
