Yeah, I tend to get grilled heading across the border. The US border guards seem to think my plan is to sneak in, and live in the US permanently.

Seriously. Dude. I'm already a citizen of CANADA. Don't flatter yourselves.

(note for the humour-impaired: I actually did consider the move before 9/11 - but today?? It's hard not to laugh at the border when they accuse me of this.)

that doesn't explain the signatures and it most definitely doesn't explain why they read "1972" and not "72" like all other military documents from the time. Or, honestly, all other documents from the time. The whole "four digit year" thing only really started when the Y2K panic started.

While I can't speak for the military, this comment is extremely laughable.

Your chequebook may not have had 4 digit years (most just had the 19__ filled in already), but believe me: most documents had 4 digit years. It had nothing to do with Y2K, unless it was computer-generated. Which in 1972 most documents were not. Even then, most computer logic would prepend a default "19" at the beginning.

Funny, I figured that legislation had no hope in hell of going anywhere.

So there I, after paying my $15 to watch a movie this weekend, and this commercial comes on. Guy in a prison cell. Looks hardcore, like a gang thug or something. The tag line is to the effect of "cameras can watch this dude all day long now... because he DARED bring a camera into a movie theatre".

I just about bust a gut laughing, then realized it was serious: there's a "Operating a recording device in a movie theatre is now illegal in Canada" message at the end.

    How fucking pathetic.

Fuck them. I'm officially downloading from here on in. HEY SHITHEADS: I JUST PAID TO SEE YOUR FUCKING MOVIE. PLEASE STOP THREATENING ME WITH A FUCKING PRISON TERM.

Besides, 5 months is only "old" if you're a teenager. So get off my damn lawn and stop posting pointless comments complaining about something you can easily just NOT CLICK ON IF IT DOES NOT INTERST YOU.

If we lived in a society where the majority of us lived in nature, and getting to the Internet was an infrequent occurence, sure, that'd make sense.

The GP complained that they can't handle "being away" at all. Don't tell me they're just using a different form of "getting away" - that's ridiculous. Worrying about work 7x24 pretty much means that, by definition, you're not "getting away". You're still at work.

If you NEVER want to, more power to you. But don't put words into people's mouths. Nature is just one way of doing something different. If you don't like your day to day life to ever change, so be it.

Oh, and about the bugs - I've hiked in mountainous areas that had far fewer mosquitoes than many major cities. Then again, I'm from Canada. As for bathrooms? With 99% of Slashdotters being male, I figured the standing up by a tree plan would be obvious.
