  1. Re:Good on you google! on Google News, Censorship or Responsible Journalism? · · Score: 1

I do support most of what you say but I think that it is us that should do the censoring with our feet. Free speech, including stupid rants, are the cornerstone of real democracy and as such should be faught for. I think that the ranters should be made accountable for what they say rather than some self appointed power deciding what is in the public good. In this case, I think that there should be some legal redress rather than blocking because I do not see what gives google the right to decide what will offend me. Some things I like might offend the average Muslim, for example the Danish cartoons. I thought the one with god saying "no more, we have run out of virgins" was great but a lot of Muslims want that sort of joke to be illegal. Will google censor that sort of thing next if they get support over this?

Although in general, I agree with you, I think that an IDE that allows the student to step through a programme and see where a mistake has been made, and follow values to see how they are changed, is an invaluable training aid.

It really depends entirely on the course. When I taught at college I used an IDE but when I was teaching post-grads I did not as I was teaching concepts rather than training them to programme. The post-grads were big enough to go and use whatever they wanted when they walked away and got on with their projects.

With a true SIP provider you can call any other SIP phone regardless of physical location on the planet. The SIP protocol allows you to simply dial a SIP address and talk to that person. The quality of service is down to your provider and just like AOL, Skype do tend to provide a reasonable service. The problem is that with Skype you can only talk to other Skype phones, it is not open, just like AOL was not open. If you go to a good SIP povider you can have a good clear call and have a better breakout deal and talk to anyone on any other SIP service for free. VOIP should not be hamstrung by some startup trying to claim the territory as their own.

www.voipcheap.com or www.voipcheap.co.uk (same stuff really).

I have a Sipura ATA so I do not even need to have my computer turned on to make or recieve calls. You can get other ATAs and I do not think the Sipura is the best but I bought it 3 years ago when it was.

BTW I live in northern Thailand and with this I can call and chat to my friends as much as I like.

Skype is the AOL of VOIP and they are desperate to get everyone into their camp before people realise that they can have the world if they stay outside of that camp. True VOIP offers you the same freedom that the real internet offers those that are/were not AOL subscribers. I have a dial in line for free on VOIP and I can dial out for free already. I can call many countries for free. I do not need a restricted cobbled service just because it has a good marketing department.

I was involved in voice recording and if our guys were going into a sensitive area they did not want to be met by security at the airport who could issue them with weapons as they may get made by the bad guys. They would secrete a couple of guns in the recording equipemnet and they never got caught. OK, it is easier to stay calm and distract the guys doing the scanning when you know you will not get arrested but it does drive a coach and horses through the security.

Why not take it further and have 5 locations using VPN and set the physically seperate location up like RAID 5 so no location actually has the data. If any hard drive gets stolen it has a maximum of every 4th chunk of data (4 chunks and a check chunk = 5 locations). A thief would need to break into all locations at the same time to get the data. If one location is broken into the data can still be recovered using the check chunks but the thief cannot recover any data. Encryption can easily be broken but a thief cannot see what he does not have.

America has just executed 10,000 Iraqi civilians which overshadows the Chinese total. At least in China they get a trial even if you do not like it. In the Cuba there are almost 500 people that were rounded up by the US from various countries and disapeared. Do you really think that Chinese labout camps are somehow worse than Gauntanamo? At least the Chinese are getting rid of theirs and are moving in the opposite direction to the US.

Bikering causes things to be said that take on the wrong light. I love my time in China and love the Chinese people. They are warm and friendly and enjoy their freedom to say what they like when they like. I learnt many things about China which were at odds with what I had been told in advance. i.e. I met many people that had up to seven brothers and sisters etc. It is all propaganda. I also love America and the American people despite the many arguements I get into here and on other sites. I hate both governments and think that they are both as bad as each other. You may say that the American government is somehow better because it mainly kills and abuses non Americans while the Chinese government kills and abuses Chinese but I do not see this as justification. To me it is wrong to kill regardless.

If you read newspapers in other countries you will read stories like those you read at home about China but the stories in other countries are often about the things that America does. Some stories are true and some are not, just as is the case with what you read about China.

Yes they use the organs taken from the people that get executed, why not? As far as they are concerned someone whose life is forfeit has lost all rights so permission is not required. I do not see that as a big issue. I think that we should all donate our organs anyway so I agree with the policy.
