Several actors have already been approached regarding who will play the new doctor. On TV last night someone said "why not have a female doctor":) Although this may seem sacreligious, it would be a laugh.
Although I also support the effort it can only be effective against those that care about US law. So spamming will become another computer industry to go abroad.
That said it is a step in the right direction as it will reduce the amount of spam by the number of spammers that do not want to live in Cambodia etc.
There is nothing in the definition of sharing that implies that there can only be one object. Sharing is about disribution and not necessarily evenly. With a filesharing utility you share your files and other persons shares theirs with you. It definately is sharing but it also is definately wrong. I agree with the original comment that it most certainly is not stealing as there is no intention to permenantly deprive the owner of the object, therefore it cannot be seen as stealing. It is only wrong in that at some point, someone bought a copy fairly and decided to distribute it unfairly. That is where the wrong occured. That wrong was not criminal, just a civil crime and should only be seen as such. The record industry is seeking to make the public see it as theft so that they can seek harsher penalties. That does not make it so.
I find it more amazing that so many people think that America has less cameras. Having worked with the output I know that when there is an incident in an American city there is a lot of available footage and it comes from the same places as most of the footage in British incidents... i.e. private cameras in garage forecourts and company car parks etc. Next time you see footage in the news take a look at where it comes from. Not long ago in the UK there was a girl went missing in Walton-on-Thames, found later in some woods... The camera footage was from Birds Eye (food company) car park. The same is true in the US except there are more police cameras in the US. Most police cars in the US now seem to have cameras rolling (I think it is because they hope to end up on one of those 'police, action, camera' type programmes). The issue of the cameras on street corners is a red herring as they represent such a small proportion of actual cameras.
ID cards would need to much of a change in the law to introduce in the UK; but like most US states, the UK has photo ID driving licenses now, but in the UK you do not have to carry it. So again the US is further down that road. The entitlement card can happen easily in the UK, but you only need to carry that to claim unemployment benefit etc. so it will not effect most people and will only effect those that need it when they want to claim their money.
High taxes are fine if they are spent wisely. I do not think that the UK spends the money wisely. It worth paying for a decent health care system but the UK does not have one. It is worth paying for a decent education system but the UK does not have one. The UK has a lot of stealth taxes so I do not think that the level of taxation is significantly higher than France but France has a much better health system and a much better education system. Britain spends all that tax money trying to keep up the old image of being a world leader and is not fooling anyone.
Even when I do use doze I still avoid XP like the plague. It is the worst (but then as doze keeps worse and XP is the most recent...). I like the idea but I hope it will be a bit more flexible than this statement implies.
I always say yes with a big smile and a revised estimate of the cost. If they want to pay more, I earn more so I am happy. If they do not want to pay more then the work will not get done. Yes, people always want something for nothing but I am not very good at hearing them. I just give them the new estimate...
Or could it be the fact that if you want to hit a web server it is more likely to be Linux and if you want to write a virus that will attack mail clients Outlook is the most common?
I speak as a Linux fan but I think that when Linux gets into the mainstream there will be more malicious attacks. Outlook is an easy target for the reasons we all know but if Evolution became the most common client you can be sure there would be virii written to exploit it.
And finally, SCO is still hoping for a settlement with IBM.
I think that was their plan from the begining and now it has backfired and made them look stupid. I believe they thought that IBM would buy them out rather than bother with a fight and now they have to try and justify their stupidity.
I agree that they have the right to do but I fail to understand why I cannot be pissed off with them for doing so. My landlord has the right to put up my rent but I get pissed off with him when he does.
Your analogy is equally faulty. I would not like someone walking into my home but if I ran a pub I would like them to come in. A closer analogy would be a wine bar. If a wine bar said that beer drinkers where no longer welcome then a lot of people would be pissed but the wine bar would be within its rights.
What makes this case worse is the history with AOL. MSN kept trying to claim access to AOL and could not accept that AOL had the right to block MSN. Now they are doing exaclty what they said was wrong. This is hypocracy.
Even in civil cases the person prosecuting should have to provide the evidence. As I said, in Europe he could have claimed he had the licenses and it would have been up to the BSA to show cause to believe he did not have those licenses. The only difference between civil and criminal cases is meant to be between 'beyond reasonable doubt' and 'beyond all doubt'.
:) I found his comments to be hilarious as I have worked for a university in the past and tried to audit. We could not find who had bought what or where licenses where for most of the products we used. In the end the project was scrapped as it was decided that the cost and inconvenience of the audit just was not worth it. That university had all the right procedures etc. but have you tried to get academics to follow procedure ? I do not believe for a second that any of the software in use was illegally obtained but the paperwork was a complete mess. He obviously believes his own propoganda but is not able to be self critical.
so if software is installed, and you can't show the license
Only since the US threw out normal law of 'innocent until proven guilty' and introduced 'guilty unless you have enough money to fight'. In most countries your concept is a nonsense. Although I accept that in this case this is not the arguement. He accepted that the software was on 2 computers but contended that it was not being used on 2 computers. In any other country he could have said 'but I bought 2 copies' and it would be up to the BSA to show that he did not. In most of Europe he would not have commited an offence as he did not breach copyright only the license so he was not breaking any law. There are moves to change that in Europe but those moves are not getting far. Click through agreements that are agreed before you know what you are agreeing to (i.e. before you have installed and run the software) are not acceptable in most European courts.
Common Law used to include common sense but that has left the arena since corporations took control.
Of course, the people who are most able to get other jobs move on first
I think it would be the people who are most affected by this that move on first (i.e. those that want to browse rather than work) and those that are actually getting on with work are not going to be too fussed. So the firm loses those that do least work. Seems like a good move but then here am I on/. while at work...
I realise that many people here do not see daylight but I went out one day and discovered these sweet smelling things called women. I have yet to meet one of the sweet smelling ones that is computer literate and that is not using Windows. Although I try to pry them off MSN and onto ICQ/Yahoo some of them manage to resist my charms. I do accept that this is a failure on my behalf but I still like to keep in contact with these sweet smelling creatures as I find the occasional real life contact with these creatures to be pleasant. So, although I hate the evil ones I still like to access their system so that I can enjoy other facets of my life.
When doing plumbing I used to have 2 long springs that slid inside the pipe with a length of string tied to one end in order to retrieve the spring. The springs were sized to fit inside 15mm and 22mm pipes. The spring was about 2 foot long. I could then bend the pipe to the shape I wanted and the spring would stop the pipe from collapsing. I would just pull the spring out with the string afterwards.
I also used to have a pipe bender which is a curved form with a gully to take the pipe. A long handle attached to a roller bends the pipe in the gully. It is easy to make a form like this using ply wood. Get 2 sheets of thick strong ply about 6 inches square and a sheet of strong ply the same thickness as the pipe you wish to bend. Use a jigsaw to cut the curve you want into the pipe sized piece of ply and clamp it between the 2 squares using g-clamps. Bend the pipe using the form and finish of freehand to make any fine changes after. As long as any major bends are made using the form any small adjustments should not cause the pipe to collapse.
The tools that you really need to buy are for creating the unions on the ends. Olives are OK but flares are better.
That would not be useful with these small pipes. I used to have a pipe
They are not solid, they are hollow:) I find copper pipes easy to bend into shape but if you are worried then there are plenty of flexible rubber pipes that are available as long as you make sure that the ones that you are looking at are able to take the heat. If you use decent copper pipes inside the case where size is important then you could use adapters on the case and use good quality shower hose to connect to a reservior and pump.

Do you have a point or are you just jealous?
SCO has no plan ...

The plural of campus is campera. Although if you used this no one would know what you are saying.

That was obviously an M$ film as the evil bad guy was a penguin...
I want one of these to get me home when I am wasted :) Why do I have to wait until I am too old to enjoy it?
I agree that they have the right to do but I fail to understand why I cannot be pissed off with them for doing so. My landlord has the right to put up my rent but I get pissed off with him when he does.

Illegal ??? I thought we were talking about felons? :)
They probably wear a mask and wave at the camera...

At $100,000 each raid it would still be more profitable for them than producing reliable software.
