oh, thank God! i was worried for a few years... this means i don't live there and can't claim it on my paperwork. i can even claim my Idaho birth certificate is a fake and claim i really *WAS* born in Texas (and can use my 490-xxxx-xx SSN to prove it!)
Twin Falls, Idaho is a technoplogy SINKHOLE!
in fact, it might be a good idea to avoid Idaho completely, unless you're interested in Micron, the company behind Crucial Memory, which is in Boise, Idaho.
but stay AWAY from Twin Falls! there's nothing but HICKS here!
i'm still not sure if i've memorized all the powers of 2 or if i actually calculate them on the fly....
like... 16 * 16 for example: i didn't even think about it and i blurted out 256. then i went back through my mind and noticed where the 256 place in binary was relative to the 16 place. wow. hard stuff.:P i have issues, don't i? i'll shut up now.
i was surprised to see no mention of it in the article, nor did i see any comments that brought it up. maybe it's off-topic, i guess.
well, whatever the case, the Be File System is a POSIX-like file system (with all of the POSIX-mandated features), but it extends it far beyond with its named attributes. any file can have any number of arbitrary attributes that contain any arbitrary length of arbitrary data. i think the only real limitation was free space for the inode.:)
the only thing that is different from Reiser and Plan9, as i uderstand it, is how those attributes are accessed. it's been a while, but i think you had to use a rather clumsy utility to access the attributes from the CLI, but any aplication could be written to take advantage of them. quite easily, in fact.
it seems, if we took Reiser and BeFS and did a kind of crossover, we'd have an almost ideal file system.
i have a nasty tendency to name all of my characters either after my favorite Anime characters (i.e., Kizuna from Megami Kouhosei), or just a Japanese name i pieced together from my Kanji dictionary (i.e., Asako).
i'm pathetic. i even play female characters exclusively.
but, more recently, i've leaned a little more toward Elvish names in some games (i.e., Elrith E'len in NeverWinter Nights).
yeah. i'm an Otaku. i'm not proud of it. but that's what i am.
i don't know how helpful it would be, but in at least Windows 2000 and Windows XP, two US keyboard mappings are listed that seem applicable: left-handed and right-handed Dvorak.
i'm sure you could make your own keycaps if you need to, but both mappings seem oriented toward single-handed use.
i'm not sure about sugar being a contributor, but i do know that there never has been a conclusive study on ADD/ADHD that ever really proved it existed.
the "signs" of ADHD in children are perfectly normal behaviors in most children - fidgeting, inability to focus, inability to sit still, etc. mos tof the time, it is as you said: it's most often due to the relationship between the parents and children.
why do i say this? homeschooled children and other children that spend extensive amounts of time with their parents are more apt to learn, often have a strong desire to learn, are able to focus, and show all the signs of being a "normal child" by the drug industry's definitions.
ADD/ADHD IS a hoax. it never existed. as far as i'm aware, drugs like ritalyn do little to help, but eventually cause a multiplicity of problems - addiction, depression, manic-depression, and a number of other psychological "disorders," among other things.
i put no faith in the drug industry, and i intend to prove through my children that ADHD is of no real effect.
for the time i used DVORAK, i found that i was able to switch back and forth with QWERTY on the fly.
but as a critical note: my mind operates contextually, and so i mentally adjust for tasks based on my situation. so, i can operate one peice of software with its custom keyboard shortcuts, and then switch to another similar application and be able to use its shortcuts without a second thought. a friend of mine, however, has a great deal of trouble doing that. he can use one application and then gets stuck with its layout - when he switches, he can't make the mental change completely. so i suspect that although it's easy for me, it would be difficult to near impossible for my friend to do the same kind of switching between layouts. YMMV.
however, i found i stopped using the backspace key while using the DVORAK layout, since i made next to zero mistakes. the few mistakes i made were because of unexpected layout switches or because i typed too fast to notice (or care).:)
i've used a DVORAK mapping on my keyboard for a while. in fact, i became a touch-typist for that time. i got used to switching layouts on the fly for whatever reason, and eventually, i came to this end result:
i can't make DVORAK the default like i want to because all of my games are mapped to QWERTY by default.:(
i've always wanted to try left- and right-handed DVORAK layouts, but i'm just too damned lazy.
it's probably a very bad suggestion, but current video cards do come to mind....
they're basically a very fast and very programmable math coprocessor that runs 3D-to-2D software. maybe it's possible to disable the RAMDAC and just use the video chip?
correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't.NET supposed to be a "portable solution" that will work "across many platforms"? from what i can tell, M$ only wants it to work on 3 platforms: Windows Alpha, Windows ia32, Windows ia64.
well, as i've tld the people who ask me - i'll only develop with.NET when Mono is done, OR if M$ actually ports something to linux. in light of this, neither will happen anytime soon. so, i am that much more against.NET and all it represents.
what's the point of developing a "portable" app if it's only going to ever compile or run on 3 platforms? i can do that NOW with Visual Studio 6, as long as i choose to not use assembly code.
i noticed one poster mentioned an Inquirer article about these computers and the article says the computers will cost 5000 yen - this is incorrect according to the article in the news post. that article says that the computers will ship end of january for about 10,000 yen ($95 USD), not 5,000 (~$47USD).
but since it's a DIY kit, it makes me wonder - does it come with a CPU and memory?
Yeah, someone at HomeLan decided we needed a server.
well, now, The Junkyard is hosted on 5 multiple-redundant web servers with a separate MySQL database server. we're sharing some of this with a few other guys, but add to this that we're on a dedicated OC3....
yeah, we don't complain. at all.

a recent article about AMD's stand
in the pickling episode, he talked about the differences between kosher and other salts and why he uses kosher (but i wasn't paying much attention - i may have missed something)

yep, it's still here.
and yes, they're still insane. and i probably know them, too.

that's not what Microsoft announced a while back. this article talks about it a bit.
because it moved. it's still closed of, of course, but they moved all the saucers and ETs to Colorado Springs.
where's my download, damnit?

Majora's Mask had a mini-quest that was very similar - you went around helping people, but had to do it by their schedule. it's weird.

i'm actually rather surprised that major financial news like WSJ and IBD doesn't report on this sort of thing. they're simply silent on the issue.
they could be as easy as "htns" (right hand home keys) :)

well, that does apply in engineering as it's something that's well understood, but i fail to see how you made the connection for "y2k3 problem".

he's asking what kind of a bandwidth strategy is good with what pricing strategy, not just what to use to manage the bandwidth.
