    If you'd bother to learn even the slightest bit of elemental genetics you'd know that a gene can migrate but not spread (as in multiply) unless there is a ecological benefit gained from its existance. Which there clearly is not.
    So there is no problem

    Who is going to pay?

    I'd prefer the latter but it required having to trace the company through complicated follow-the-money-go-overseas-FBI-CIA type of actions. So in reality they'll make grandma pay

    600 feet?

    Here in the Netherlands they're starting up a service that uses the location of your cell phone to locate the nearest (bar|restaurant|car repair|cheese shop) when you ring them. They claim their accuracy is < 50m in inner cities and less than 1km in rural areas. Of course this depends on the frequency of cell phone towers which is a lot higher in Europe than in the US

    Here I am thinking NASA & co was tracking everyhing bigger than a tennis ball in outer space. How come this thing just goes in without anyone noticing it? We've been swamped with news of some other meter which had like a 1^-1000000 chance to hit and this thing just charges in? WTF?

    Almost certainly. Metabolic processes (enzymes) have a narrow active temperature range. My guess is anything below 80 degC will slow them down so much that they won't multiply anymore. They probably won't die either, just slow down

    I'm NOT making up stories. There is strong independent evidence that increased CO2 does induce climate change. However the question always remains which factor contributes to what %. Now that is mighty good fun for science to figure out.

    However in my *experience* the only result of saying "global warming is caused by something else" is that people start thinking they don't have to do anything.

    As I said, anyone *interested* in the subject will easily figure out what's going on.
    Even though it doesn't match your superior ethics, I feel that stories like this post are not helping reduce environmental pollution and should not be emphasized.

    If every hypothesis needs 100% proof before it is taken to the street, what are these soldiers doing in Iraq?

    Simple: Joe Schmoe can understand "global warming" as it's something quite easy to explain. For me as a scientist is doesn't matter on what grounds people start decreasing their oil consumption, as long as they do. SO what's the benefit of telling people that do not understnad environmental chemistry what the exact iffy details are that do make their SUV mess up the environment? If they take an interest in understanding they'll rather quickly find out what's really happening.

    Is this just another saying that we son't need to cut down on oil consumption? That air pollution really isn't a problem? No matter whether global warming is due to excess CO2 production or increased solar output, fact remains that our addiction to oil is completely fucking up our climate

    Sure it'll be nice to have disneyland-in-space.
    However I just can't ignore the incredible amount of resources this 'fun' is going to cost. The amount of fules neccesary for one trip is just rediculous (don't give that clean fuel / hydrogen crap as it takes oil / elctrolysis to get the hydrogen in the first place).

    And they want to make things like this a tourist attraction?

    I'd switch to OSX today if it ran on my hardware.
    But, looking at laptop prices, the Macs aren't that much more expensive than Dell. However, looking at the specs you do get a lot less MHz for the same money. But are those figures really comparable (like...erm..comparing Apples to Oranges..whahaherm)??. Seriously; can anyone comment on the price/performance for Apple laptops vs (Dell,Compaq,Sony}?

    Just an american (european) way of thinking that anyone who is not in the US / europe must be living in straw huts and hunt wild animals for a living.

    There are actually educated people in the 'third' world (*wow*). The fact that they come up with a method of running PCs without burning fossile fuels is something we should envy. Especially now with a completely flopped 'sustainable world' congres in south AFRICA.
    I would love to have one of those spring-powered radios but the fact is our 'first world' society is so fixed on CO2 production we can't get them here.

    If been in a trial in NL, and it worked sorta OK
    until I plugged a dodgy TV into a near socket.
    Apparently the TV blew back a few volts down the line which in its turn took down the modem....
    Not a pleasant experience.

    During my MSc in biology, we had a genetics class in which such a protocol was discussed, mainly because 'jurassic park' just came out.

    Basically the professor said that trying to anything like this was like "pushing an analog tape in a CD player and expecting music to come out"

    Ontogeny of mammals is really dependent on interactions between mother and child, and these interactions are quite specific for a species.
