Yeti, angels and ley lines are at best, implausible. The idea of other intelligent life forms "out there" somewhere is at least *plausible* and therefore not the waste of time you seem to believe it to be. The degree to which energy/money is spent looking for it can be argued, but you can't say "never." It happened here, so it follows that it could happen elsewhere.

...and a CAP usually means DMS. I never was a fan of creamed corn, myself... Budweiser and its ilk may be technically prefect, and that takes a lot of skill, but I think there was a lot of marketing and competition-purchasing behind the success of the Classic American Pilsner as it stands today. Malt is time-consuming and expensive to produce, so if you can derive your sugars from cheaper grains like rice and corn, then the profit value rises--especially if you can convince everyone to drink it. Oh yeah, and why bother with hops? Just wave a handful over the kettle a few times. =D

Agreed. But then again, they never should have written/shot the scenes with the "illicit" content in the first place. "Catching it in post [production]" makes the movie look sloppy.

And I'll have to agree with FooGoo when he(?) says sometimes the situation simply calls for a "What he fuck?!?" or "Holy shit!!!" So that type of content--in some cases--does add to the film. "Golly gee!" and "Holy smokes!" just doesn't cut it.

I realize that the production company and/or movie studio wanted to market this movie to all ages, but it bugs me when actors' lines get dubbed over. There is a particular scene that I'm thinking of where Sigourney Weaver's character says "fuck" but we instead hear "crap," or some other tame expression. There were one or two others besides that. It also appeared to me that the Tony Shalhoub character was your basic stoner but they cut any references to drugs. Witness his spaced-out reaction to problems in engineering, his mellow attitude when they are flying in the shuttlecraft, and his almost incessant munching on chips, etc. And just what was in the greasy paper bag he was carrying around everywhere? Of course, this is only speculation, but I have this friend that knows about these things. (Yeah, that's it... A friend...)

I didn't think this was worthy of Ask Slashdot, but I figured at least it's pertinent to this topic....

We're looking at using an mp3 player for our phone system's hold music, but the ones I've looked at don't come with AC adaptors--which would be critical. The phone system is actually on a PC, and we currently just jack a portable CD player into it, but that thing is wearing out. (The PC is really owned by our phone services provider, so I can't hack it--at least I'm not supposed to.) The area where this equipment is housed doesn't really lend itself to hooking up a full-blown CD player or second PC.

Anyone know who makes an mp3 player that can take an AC adaptor?

    Thanks!

To "beg the question" is a logical fallacy with an unfortunate name.

According to whom? The two phrases are essentially identical. "To beg" is (in this case) to entreat. There is an Idea that is presented that (in some given context) is open to debate and so the Idea is "asking" the question.

Anyway, I think the meaning of the phrase is understood by most people, plus it is in general use, so we can communicate effectively without splitting hairs.
