    If she uses Word, then like me she probably has problems opening other peoples Word files! Not just formatting but crashes too! Word on Mac is a PoS. I usually end up just importing doc files into TextEdit.app, it does a better job!!!

    As much as I want an iPhone myself, the iPhone IS using LGPL'd software (at least KHTML) and Apple IS restricting me from upgrading/modifying the LGPL'd portion.

    This is in violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the LGPL2.

    I believe that if it were under the LGPL3 it would be in direct violation.

    What they DO is they bring insecurity to every sector of government and society that they touch, in the name of "Security"

    It is all about optics... It doesn't matter that their computers are insecure... obviously the problem is that the fact that their computers are insecure should be a top-secret fact. It is not something that they feel needs to be fixed. They are only there for the illusion.

    Do you have a reference for your claim that GCC generates derived works or may be modified to? Stallman has publicly supported different licenses for different projects - including the BSD license for specific situations.

    FSF/GNU own the copyright to GCC... They can do anything they want with it. Just like microsoft had at one time special wording in their Visual C++ license saying that you were not allowed to create a competitor to Word/Office with it.

    I base this on the same proof that microsoft has shown. There is exactly the same amount of proof that microsoft has violated the GPL as there is proof that 'linux' violates Microsoft's patents. ie: NONE.

    BTW, many open source programs are incredibly good. Valgrind is one of them, which goes way beyond anything that microsoft has.

    Lone developer sues Microsoft for Microsoft's GPL and copyright violations of lone developer's software.

    Microsoft counter-sues lone developer because of the unknown microsoft patents that he has violated and that other developers, distributors and end users have specifically paid microsoft protection money for.

    A precedent has been set - more than a few linux oriented companies are "paying" microsoft for unknown patent licensing because of linux.

    I developed the The Internet Filter back in 1995. We have a 'transparent' list policy so you know what is being blocked and what is not being blocked.

    You can see our entire database at research.vision-options.com. Apparently, a lot of people use our list as a jumping off point for their porn adventures. This causes a lot of bandwidth usage...

    So we put ads on our list page as well as more information about porn addiction, internet filter circumventors, and other topics.

    Without people being scared of porn on the internet there would be no need for internet filters.

    I feel old too

    My Apple ][ was something that challenged and taught me.

    Woz is brilliant and I spend countless hours pouring over the big red book with the fold out schematic of the Apple ][. Not only open source but open hardware too. The Apple ][ was fundamental in my development as a computer programmer.

    Computers now have lost the special aspects of the Apple ][... simplicity and understandability.

    This works into their grand master plan:

    1) produce poor quality music
    2) sell less albums
    3) blame pirating and internet radio for their reduced sales
    4) tax internet radio and sue everyone else for pirating even if they are not pirating ..5) profit!!!
