I've been watching CNN for the last 1 1/2 hours and they haven't even mentioned this. anyone else think this millenium coverage is getting out of hand? CNN's web page has a big picture of fireworks over Sydney harbor and the Yeltsin resignation is relegated to the small print in the corner. ^..^
We all knew that the flouridation plot would come to something like this. i got my Kalashnikov, 2000 rds of tungsten core ammo, 50 cases of corned beef hash, and plenty of mescaline to see me through the coming tribulation. Jesus is coming, and he looks pissed. ^..^
This is what you call a movie review? It seems more like a rant against Andy Kaufman/praise for Jim Carrey. than anything else. Besides Carrey is good, DeVito is good, this review hardly even mentions the movie. Maybe we should have a vote on whether Jon Katz should be allowed to continue to appear on Slashdot. This is ridiculous. ^..^

Samba 2.06 Released

I think it was actually apache, i don't recall seeing anything about samba on there. the benchmarks were for NT and IIS vs linux and apache, IIRC. ^..^
I wonder how long it's gonna be before someone patents the idea of collectong royalties. Uh, now if you'll excuse me, i have some forms to fill out. ^..^
has anyone tried running a fork bomb while while viewing your processes in doom? maybe with the chain gun you could shoot fast enough to keep the system from wedging. ^..^
It needs to include a way to remove accounts of problem lusers, or at least to nuke the megabytes of pr0n and mp3s from their ~ when they come bugging for more disk space. since there are some messy legal issues involved with physically maiming/killing them, the next best thing is todo it virtually. ^..^
...I would think it would cause big problems for merced. who is gonna want to change their entire platform to something new if intel proves they can provide substantial speed increases wtihout changing the architecture. Maybe they just won't release the faster chips as Xeons, making them useful only for gamers. ^..^
they are probably just trying to sell some copies of these books by doing this. That's why they have the "no purchase necessary" disclaimer in their rules. ^..^
someone should notify the major news services about this, it sounds like something they would pick up. Not that Slashdot needs the publicity, but it's a cool story that demonstrates the value of open discussion about these kind of things.
unless you're a poor Solaris developer/admin, or just need to have a Sun box at home. Really, most stock intel PCs are faster and have more features than this. at about half the price. Alpha and G4 blow it out of the water for about the same price. ^..^
Right now, DeBeer's is working out a way to get exclusive mining rights to Neptune And Uranus. Microsoft has nothing on DeBeer's in the monopoly department.
This does not detonate the weapon, it smashes it to its before it can detonate. it would scatter a couple kilos of Plutonium to the winds, but better than losing a city. ^..^ ( @ ) ^..^
Can anyone confirm this leak? The Times doesn't say who or where this leak came from, and the Weizmann Institute doesn't seem to have any information on it, although they do have alot on RSA and public key crypto in general. And I would think any breakthrough like this would be kept under tight wraps, Israel isn't exactly the most open nation when it comes to spy and security stuff like this. Could be a red herring thrown out to make their enemies feel a bit more insecure. I'll believe it when I see it. Maybe. ^..^ ( @ ) ^..^
Neutrons aren't worse because they are heavier, they are worse because they have no charge. Alpha and Beta particles are stopped easily because other charged particles act to repel or attract them, depleting their energy. Neutrons can go right on through without much interaction. Also, neutrons are absorbed by normally stable atoms making them radioactive. ^..^ ( @ ) ^..^
It's the light emitted by water when it is bombarded by intense gamma radiation. the same thing you see in physics textbooks when they show pictures of nuclear waste under water. Uraniaum will not normally produce this, but when it fissions, most of the energy is emitted as gamma rays and xrays. the guys who were unlucky enough to see this are screwed, I don't think it's possible to survive standing in front of a nuclear pile that suddenly goes critical. They must have absorbed a massive dose, because it appears they started feeling ill immediately. Not a good sign.
unless he meant launching the lens into orbit, on the opposite side of the sun from the earth. I don't see how this would help you fry an object 30 feet away from you. ^..^ ( @ ) ^..^
