this story is about 2 months old. The RFID triggers a sensor and then you may be asked to take the towel out of your luggage, or be billed for a towel. This type of news could also be a hoax and people read the sign and don't take the chance. Theft is theft, it shouldn't happen.

I like and own several MS hardware items, and they usually work better/well when compared to similar priced items. BUT having followed the path of this device I feel that it is in the wrongs hands, I don't think that it is part of MS focus and so it will get marginalised, and even forgotten once they need another game feature to trump the others. The only hope that I see for it is to have a 3rd party develop uses for it.

  14. what a laff on Apple's App Store Accepts 'Gay Cure' App · · Score: 1

Apple has historically faced anti-religion, pro-gay accusations in the past, selling the Apple I for $666.66 and the (gay) rainbow colours of the Apple Logo, and for using an apple (a traditional sign of temptation) and now that it passes an pro-hetro app for iTunes together with other soft porn apps, the tables seem to have turned. Ok, so now the gay lobby will want the Bible removed from ITunes too? The Bible says that gay behaviour is disgusting, along with a number of other things relating to heterosexuality, and not to forget, lying, cheating and stealing.

  15. same, same... on Trumpet Winsock Creator Made Little Money · · Score: 1

I was writing shareware from about 1991, when you had to chose it from a catalogue and got it on floppies, then people paid for shareware. Then CDs were becoming cheap, people bought the CD and had a ton of software available, and people also stopped paying fees. Ask most people and they think that shareware = freeware. Saddly may companies often have terminal apps the are shareware but they have never paid for it. Sad really.

  16. different evil empires on Is Apple Turning Into the Next "Evil Empire"? · · Score: 1

MS dominated because it could sell a cheaper OS for cheaper hardware, and so it reached the Critical Mass level where you had to Lock In to MS because everyone else was. Apple sold a Better iPackage to people, there are lots of alternatives but no-one sells a whole package that works. The Apple empire will crumble when this happens. I also think that it's a generational thing, the current generation wants the 'flash' instead of the cash.

  17. originally... on Ask Slashdot: Is the Recycle Bin a Good GUI Metaphor? · · Score: 1

the original GUI didn't query you when you dumped stuff into the trash, only when you finally emptied the trash, which is handy for multiple file deletions, like cleaning out a folder. I currently have a UNIX drive mapped in, and so everything is deleted instantly, but it asks first, while in the commandline, when it's deleted, it's gone! My preference is the first instance, place files aside and then delete them as a bundle, but my second choice is where delete means DELETE.
