  2. Re:Computers are not a cure-all on Transcriber Threatens Release of Medical Records · · Score: 1
Patient records are not typically kept on computers in part because people would die if the power went out. That's funny, the rest of the world seems to have mastered that problem and yet hospitals haven't? It's called a UPS or a generator. And hello? All hospitals have generators or the people on the breathing machines etc would die if the power went out. But if solving all their problems just required installing a few computers, don't you think they'd have done that already? Yes, I would think that, but they haven't. And I never said "everything could be cured by computers". But I would rather have a computer taking in my symptoms and responding with possible diagnosis for the doctor than relying on an overworked doctors memory of symptoms and diagnosis' of what is wrong with me. And it is obvious that a patients life should never rely on a piece of paper in a doctors pocket that noone else has access to.
Why would anyone be that stupid? And that has NOTHING to do with computers. I mean making several copies of that paper isn't computer work, that's figuring out how to make a good system that works in the hospital so that no patients ever get implanted with the wrong blood type organs.

The end problem is not with sys admins in the hospital, the end problem is with doctors being tehnically illiterate.

I don't know why they don't just farm all the fish we eat anyway, just like they do with cows. The cows we eat now are nothing like anything you would find wild in nature. Why eat wild fish?

And for heaven's sake would someone please start making farmed crabs so we don't have to eat anymore of that fake crab crap? It would probably be easier to have a crab farm than do all that stuff they do to make that fake crab crap.

I think hospital administration is horribly and scarily behind the times. I mean if one of the "best" hospitals can do a transplant with the wrong blood type donor...give me a break! They want the doctors to remember everything, the doctor in charge had a slip of paper in his pocket to tell him who the people were who needed a transplant and their blood type -- don't they use computers for goodness sakes? They had to call the doctor to ask him what his slip of paper said!

I think hospitals need to get off their high horse and get real here. People would be much better off if hospitals had more computers. I mean this isn't the 1800's. Doctors are allowed to use computers too aren't they?

Even if a company decided to have the "best" service they couldn't because they would go out of business in the current Walmart climate.

Yes and he wants ICANN to leave them alone too.

What he really wants to do is outsource the root servers to India. Yeah that sounds so much more stable.

Yeah they might end up with some extra frog genes that make them have the ability to change sex. (You know like in Jurassic park?) But seriously I think the only real dangers are 1. bad genes accidently coming along which wouldn't happen if you have well-trained geneticists (not like the ones in Jurassic park) and 2. adding a trait that is somehow disharmonious to the rest of your body. 3. the biggest danger of all is that the new genes will somehow get loose and cause havoc in the world. I mean maybe I want to be a super athelete. But there is something wrong elsewhere that the new athletism makes worse like weak knees or something? I think it is foolish to think you can just add something and not affect the rest of the being. We can't really forsee or anticipate these sorts of things, they'll just have to happen and then we will learn from them. But this is the reason Gattica could never happen the way it is portrayed in the movie. Because if someone wanted to change a trait, all they would have to do is get the new genes inserted into their genetic code. It's not a code that can't be changed once you are born. Although you can't go back in the womb and grow differently, but you can change things that grow all the time like hair and things like that. It would take 7 years to change your eyecolor for instance because we rejuvenate ourselves every 7 years. Unless of course they find a gene that can make that turnover happen faster of course. That's why they call it genetic code. Because it is a code, and it can be changed. Essentially they do it by giving you a virus. I think they should learn more about genetics before they start doing cosmetic dramatic things like this so that if something does go wrong they can fix it quickly. They should continue with gene therapy for sick people and learn from that first before they start turning the whole world into their guinea pig.

Yeah I've seen the kind of people who get hired this way. People who can put on a great show, and once hired turn out to be turkeys who don't do anything, but the boss sure does love them! They should all be receptionists if you ask me.

I think if I'm getting hired for a job and I can communicate effectively that should be the basis I am hired for, not for if I give a great interview. An interview should not be a social occasion.

And if a genius with a 4.0 can't communicate effectively with other human beings, then he or she must have had some head trauma because you can't pass classes without communicating with your instructor via testing. A 4.0 says "I can communicate well by doing the work". Isn't that what you are hiring after all is a worker and not a new fishing buddy?
