Why would you need to emulate a op system when you can just run the real thing on one core at full speed?

Virtual PC doesn't emulate an OS, it emulates an architechture. Windows can't run on anything but an x86 PC.

. . .but it expressly said "different op system on each core" which would make not much sense to crow about if they were, like, talking about freaking FreeBSD on one and OS X on the other?

Why not? Are they not separate OSs?

You should look into an Athlon 64. They support Cool & Quiet technology, which basically just underclocks the CPU when it's idle. My 3000+ (2Ghz clockspeed) runs at 1Ghz most of the time. And the fans spindown accordingly. When you start up an application, the chip adjusts so quickly that you can't tell any difference in performance. Anyway, something to think about.

Why does it have to be an Intel chip? I like to think I'm pretty unbiased when it comes to CPUs, but the fact of the matter is that the A64 architecture is clearly superior to that space heater Intel calls Prescott. Intel still holds a slim advantage in some encoding tests, but that's about it. I'm not trying to troll, I'm just curious why you chose to mention a 2.4Ghz HT Intel chip when TFA is about AMD. . .

The bottom line is our society, like it or not, is based around monogomous marriage. You can be married to whomever or whatever you want to in the eyes of your God, but in the eyes of Uncle Sam, there are rules to be followed. And frankly, this nation has bigger problems to deal with than marriage reform.

That's good, but it's also bulky, has a relatively poor interface and is $30 more expensive than an iPod, which /.ers already bash for being too pricey. Here's an idea: instead of giving us more bloat, why don't they just make the ultimate music player. One that will playback ALL major formats, has a good interface, and super long battery life. Although my iPod is great, it fails to meet 2 of these criteria. I guess we'll have to keep waiting. ..

I do however own a 4G iPod, and the scrollwheel is great - very easy to use. I think it has to do with it's circular shape and the fact that you're not likely to have anything other than your thumb resting on it. Half of my problems with touchpads come from either my palm or another finger inadvertantly touching it.

As long as you run a firewall, Antivirus software, spyware detection software, know what software you install and why, and don't casually click past warning messages on the web (or better yet use Firefox), you're fine as an Administrator. Granted that's a lot of shit, but hey, that's what it takes. The *nix approach of only having access to your account's data is great for a multiuser box, and can probably stop your machine from being turned into a drone, but for most desktop users, your data is the most important stuff on the box!!
