I agree with the guy in the article who said they should have offered a much larger number of shares at a much lower price. Joe Blow is a lot more likely to throw some "play money" into Google if his say, $1000 buys him 40 or so shares rather than 12.

Flash and RAM work on a similar principle? I don't know about that. The DRAM in your PC is pretty much equivalent to tiny capacitors. I don't know much about the detail of Flash memory, but it's significantly different in at least that its non volatile and non capacitor based.

IE's popup blocker is pretty slick. It will show a little dropdown area above the current page asking about the popup, if it should be displayed, etc. Neat. I do wish Firefox would do this instead of the small icon in the lower right of Firefox's window. It isn't enough to make me stop using Firefox, though.

Recent Firefox nightlies have this exact feature. Blatantly copied from IE yes, but hey if it's nice then what the hell. The icon on the status bar is still there as well.

I'm with you. My grandfather was also a Western Electric engineer, my grandmother for NY Telephone and my dad worked for AT&T, but now is retired and gets his benefits from Lucent. I kind of always thought about trying to find a job with them, it's the closest thing we have to a family business. My father always claimed that they "really eat that shit up", but I'm guessing those days are over. Personally, I still get decent service from AT&T long distance, at least it's plenty good enough for what little LD calling I do.

And then, instead of hitting 45 celsius when idle and fans blazing, I get around 40 degrees, and can't hear the fan at all. If I need to do something intensive, I just reboot, change to default and flip the switch that turns the fan on "high" mode.

Or, you could just get an Athlon 64 CPU and use Cool and Quiet. My 3000+ idles around 36C and runs at 997Mhz until I do something that requires it to ramp up to the full 2Ghz. The fans adjust as well. All automagically with no reboots.
