    Requires agencies to identify "market failures," where the private sector fell short in dealing with a problem, as a factor in proposing a rule.

    I see this as a good thing. Many times Government sticks their noses in at the wrong time and end up making a problem much worse. This will allow the private sector to fix the problem before hand. And believe me, this is an incentive because the last thing many folks want is the Government coming in.

    Let's start with the Department of Defense...

    I will install this software despite my objections because I am required to do so as my job, but I just wanted to remind you that we need to buy the licenses for these software installations as soon as possible. If they wanted you to kill somene as "part of the job"... would you?

    Illegal is illegal, it is only a matter of degree.

    If you commit murder because your boss told you he would fire you if you didn't... you would still end up in jail.

    IT doesn't add anything to the bottom line. IT takes away from the top line, just like HR, management, administrative positions, the mailroom, etc. Um... dude... we are a programming shop.

    I've been using Flashblock for several years myself but recently stopped putting it on new machines. One day I realized that it was stupid to install Flash, then install a Flash blocker.

    Now, I simply don't install Flash.

    Just like with the documents that went missing during the Whitewater investigations, right? Actually, it is different in several ways.

    The biggest difference is that the Clinton's were actually investigated. Quite thoroughly. The republicans climbed up Bill's ass and the only thing they could find was Monica's lips.

    That was the result of MILLIONS of dollars of INVESTIGATIONS.

    All we've EVER gotten out of GWB is "executive privilege". And to think that the two presidents come close to being comprable when it comes to investigating their actions, is laughable.

    Secondly, Whitewater wasn't something that "the president" did during office.

    It was actually something the guy that eventually ended up being president did BEFORE he was president.
    Big difference, IMHO.

    No coddling and pampering from the state, take your life in your own hands or perish! Unless you want to cut funding for my buddies in the military industrial complex, you communist fag. We need to protect our country!

    Be strong, grasp the opportunities and you will succeed! If you have the right parents.

    Lean state, lean government and as little regulation as possible, the freedom of market and people as the principal goal to achive. Unless we are talking about electricity, phone or water service, especially in the west. No amount of government handout is big enough then.

    MS has less to gain, so I'm more inclined to believe them. Call me a cynic, but maybe they are just trying to convince people that they need that latest version of the OS... the one that finally does multiple monitors.

    Whatever the reason, you can be sure it isn't benevolent.

    Contractors, who are paid by the hour, simply don't complain about unproductive work conditions provided at their environment by their customers. They'll happily take the extra time required to do their job with the tools at hand; it's the capitalist way, after all. I'm a (self employed) contractor that charges (and gets paid) by the hour.

    And you can bet your ass I let the customer know when their stupidity is costing them money!

    Why be a contractor if you will do stupid shit just because someone is paying you? That is what a salaried job is for...

    Installing Vista Toaster Premium is a real smooth process - the DVD fits just fine in the slot. Unfortunately, my toaster manufacturer hasn't come out with updated drivers yet, so trying to eject the disc after the installation cycle is over is a real pain. That is a known bug.

    The workaround is to turn the toaster upside down before starting the install. Then the DVD will autoeject...

    They shouldn't have waffled. They should have given the answer this deserves...how the hell is this Microsoft's problem to correct?

    Vista was in beta forever and a day. Beta 3 was out and the API was locked down for at least several months before RTM. In cases where any third party software does not now work under Vista, it is *entirely* the fault of that software company. Holding Microsoft responsible to any degree here is just plain stupid. As someone that has been around the block a few times, there is no way in hell I would spend one minute changing my code to work for a MS product that isn't actually shipping yet.

    Hell, you can get burned by MS by coding to work with *shipping* code!

    Maybe others have been around the same block...

    Your local chamber of commerce is a lot different than a major US agency like DOT, DOE, etc. Most large organizations, including government, restrict what users can install in order to minimize support requirements. Maybe that is why they installed Linux... it is a great way to keep people from installing the game they bought at Office Depot.

    What are you talking about? There are breaks everywhere. You can use EXCLAMATION POINTs and QUESTION MARKs to mark a break. For shorter breaks, there are COMMAs. DOTs are not the only way to catch a break. Dude... this is the web.

    Try <br> instead.

    Seriously tho, I seem to remember reading at one point in time about an exchange that moved their *nix based system over to an MS based system... and kept the old system as a backup.

    Don't know if this is similar.

    But... we do know that they had another system running, and the two systems didn't jive... and the primary system could not keep up.

    Switching over to the backup system cleared the log jam almost immediately.

    Makes me question which one should be the primary...

    In the first instance, "Mission Accomplished" meant that the mission of making sure that a forever war had been created that would enrich military contractors for decades to come... Actually, the mission was to hang a banner on a tall object in rough seas.
