The patent system is ridiculous, no doubt about it.
However, in order for change to happen, the lawmakers need to know of the blasphemy of our current patent system. Your lawmakers do not read Slashdot, but you do. Write your lawmakers and tell them what you think about ridiculous patent disputes such as this one. Creative may own this patent, but it's just an extension of previous patents. It's not really a new idea as it is an old idea using buttons.
The GUI has been around for years, and countless companies have copied it. So what gives Creative Labs the right to walk around and say 'Oh, this is ours!' when it's really an extension of a menu-based GUI. The only new thing it does is use a button for navigation. Files and folders have been around forever, and they will always be around. Windows and Mac OS have all used hierarchical file systems at one point in time.
There's tons of prior art on this patent.
It's also known Creative is an IP whoring company. Creative has bought out so many competitors (Aureal, Ensoniq, et al.) and pursued a lot of legal action against other soundcard manufacturers that even dared to infringe on Creative Lab's patents. We're lucky EAX2 is even available nowadays.
I for one would love to see Creative buried in the ground.
Hopefully, this game is a genre-changer, like Half-Life was, and not a flop, like Unreal 2 was. I have very high expectations for HL2, because HL was my favorite game for a very long time. Judging from screenshots I've seen, it will have very good graphics, maybe even Doom 3 class, but will probably require a powerful computer. Hopefully, this engine will be mod-able, as the original HL engine was, because the Counter-Strike and Natural Selection teams could do so much more with the HL2 engine judging from the screenshots...let's just hope this game isn't another Unreal 2.
John Woo style HALO with AI that can drive...should make Warthog that much more fun...probably will add to the game a bit more. Imagine 3 or 4 Warthogs in a single area all filled with marines destroying stuff...this could be very interesting. Hopefully HALO2 won't suffer the same FPS problems that HALO 1 did. That's all I wish for!
I mean, come on! This stuff is old, outdated, and simply not used anymore. It's not going to hurt any company's profits, because you can't even buy it in stores anymore! If it was new, then yeah, I could understand, but this is a waste of time for the IDSA.
I will have to buy an Xbox, and a PS2, if these price drops prove to be true. MS and Sony are probably losing huge amounts of money on the equipment, but they can afford to, as MS is the biggest software company and Sony is one of the biggest electronics companies in the world. Woohoo for HALO!
How will CS on an Xbox be feasible? The controls for Xbox are very inferior to PC controls, and it will feel/act very funny. CS was designed to be played with a mouse, and now they expect people to play it with joysticks? I don't see how you can achieve the same level of precision with a joystick as you can with a mouse. I bet auto-aim will be added to both single and multiplayer for CS:Xbox, and that would totally ruin the game. Bad idea.
G-Spy site looks ugly to me, and I go to Blue's News for all my gaming information. They have everything there. There's no real reason to scour web sites for this info, because it's all on Blue's News or GameSpy's website...call me flamebait, but this seems like a waste to me.
Sony has been whoring GTA out for a long ass time, it's about time some other console got it. The PS2 is horribly underpowered compared to either the Xbox or the GameCube, and I can see that the PC version of GTA:VC will far outclass the PS2 version. Just imagine the kinds of things they can do with an Xbox, a dedicated gaming console much like a PC! Yay Rockstar!
There is a reason behind why OS X has not been released for PC. In fact, there is probably many, but the biggest thing is is that Microsoft would pull Office for Mac if they started to compete on the same hardware. Microsoft x86 or Apple x86? Office is the most used business suite availible on the market. If it gets pulled, Apple will be dead in the water.
Why is this laptop using XP Home? I was under the impression (and correct me if I'm wrong) that XP Home was a strictly uniprocessor OS.
Gamma rays are photons?
So nuclear reactors just emit sunlight and happiness?
How about you go test - go walk around inside Chernobyl and tell me if it's bright in there.

Splinter Cell, Half-Life, Unreal Tournament 2003, Warcraft III, Jedi Knight II:Jedi Outcast, BF1942, Command and Conquer: Generals, Starcraft, Diablo II, Empire Earth, GTA3. Is that enough?

Wasn't this a hoax? I've seen this many times before and it's usually involving people that are Asian. I do believe it's a hoax.
Oh my god, next thing we will have is space amusment rides. "Freefall 7 miles!"
I think MS Word looks better...though that is my opinion. What is that dock program that looks like a world? Never seen that before...
I've had problems accessing some websites lately, perhaps this is why. They had better fix it, 'cause Tom is deprived of good old Ultima Online!
Why even bother?
Just call it Libranet Linux, jeesh.
It's the same thing, no reason to add three letters on just because some group got all greedy.
