  2. How about back to the basics? on How Yoda Became an Action Star · · Score: 1

Lucas stole ideas about endor and ROTJ from Akira Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress, in fact, most of the original Star Wars movies were based off that movie and other Kurosawa works...

Here how it should have gone down. Copy Kurosawa again. Yoda pulls a Sanjuro Final Scene. Showdown. Yoda vs Dooku. Just like Mifune fights the banished samurai at the end of Sanjuro. And just like in Sanjuro have Yoda just take Dooku out with one move. Thats It. One move. THATS how brilliant Yoda is. He doesnt even flinch. And you could screw those PG-13 ratings and do blood spirting all over the place or have Dooku slide apart in half.. Like the blood from Sanjuro in the last scene. Nothing was more badass then Mifune in that film, and to liken Yoda's character to him would have added more depth to the story overall.

Thinking back now, I feel most of Ep. 1 and 2 could have used more Kurosawa influence. Lucas used to idolize him, but now hes too caught up in his own self image. Its a damn shame hes draging Star Wars along w/ his ego.

  3. Interesting design, poor filesystem? on Terapin Mine Review · · Score: 1, Offtopic

Okay, the link seems dotted so i can't quite access it right now, however based on the poster's comments, why in gods name would you need a defrag and scandisk program for this system. Particularly if it runs a derivative of GNU/Linux. Did they decide to run this system with a FAT partition and have linux run in a file? Or are they perhaps using standard EXT2 but referencing fsck? Reguardless, wouldnt a journaled filesystem (ala EXT3, ReiserFS, etc) been a more prudent choice? The nature of EXT2 makes a defrag/scandisk program useless. Obviously for a portable device they want the security of a journaled filesystem in case the battery dies, etc. Neet idea - needs better explination :P

(I muse at the difficulty of hacking this and converting this to ReiserFS or EXT3)...

  4. What about the learning curve? on E3 Controller Previews · · Score: 1

Christ! What the heck is happening to the console gaming market? Okay, granted the keyboard is far superior for binding keys to do complicated things in video games but what about the majesty of the games of yore? Zelda and Final Fantasy 1 for the NES didnt take 40 freaking keys to play! AND THEY WERE FUN!

Do you really expect a 12 year old kid to sit there and try to master a 40 button controler for a mech simulation? I mean yeah its much more "realistic" but I feel that if the learning curve for a console video game is inherent in the controler! You can make great games that dont need 40 freaking buttons...

Mortal Kombat had special moves you could do with the directional pad... just think about how complicated a 40 button controler would be to master... "Oh yeah tommy! you didnt know? you had to do a SHIFT-ALT-FIRE-Rotate the directional pad 360 degrees counterclockwise-press jump-back-forward-etc-etc-etc combination to fire the special lazer guided rocket to beat the last boss...." DUUH!! i coulda thought of that one man... Shouldnt the object of these games be to ENTERTAIN?!

We have the awsome graphics now - lets focus on STORY and GAMEPLAY! not making 40 freaking button controlers!

I caught that 2 second blip where that 200x200 ad was up too. As long as that 200x200 banner stays way the heck below the article posted (as it did when I caught it here) and doesnt do that nasty C-NET (and likewise other news sites) wrap around, i could deal with this. Zophar's Domain did a similar ad placement deal on the side of their site and I have to say, I dont mind all that much.

HONESTLY people. For the websites we go to on a DAILY (or in my case hourly) basis like Slashdot, do you REALLY mind throwing them a bit, even a teansy bit of revenue by allowing them to throw some ads up? I certainly dont. As long as they keep it below the story but before the commentary, and the footprint of the ad doesnt hamper page load times very it isnt much of a bother. Just my 8 braincells

  12. THE INTERNET AS WE KNOW AND LOVE IT IS DEAD on Threatening Online Tablature · · Score: 1

I'm sorry if you dont agree with me but as soon as these big corporate entities, advertising agencies, and governments started strong arming the people of the net was the day the internet died. Its gone. Gone are the days of yore where the internet was ment to share IDEAS and KNOWLEGE with the WORLD! Now the only thing that matters is profit margins and stock value. Look at great companies like Ximian and such that just DIE because they depend on funding to run. Remember back in 96 when people would just get together and work on projects for the love of it reguardless of payback? I mean, it might not have been the most efficient means of working but it did the job! Now every little FUNDAMENTAL RIGHT we DESERVE, the fundamental rights the Internet was CRAFTED TO PROMOTE, is being stripped of us so that companies like AOL and BMI can make a couple extra million dollars to shove more mindless bull down our throats.

It's most likely all over from here on out. Creativity will be stifled by big business and the internet will no longer be the safe haven for humanity's collective knowlege.
